Previous thread

Any guesses on what Meghan will wear to introduce baby Sussex? I'm guessing Givenchy as it's her go-to designer for big events.

Then again she could surprise us all and come out in a JoJo Maman Bébé breastfeeding tunic!

What channel @AhoyDelBoy? (I assume you are in Oz, east coast?)

InterchangeableEmma · 08/05/2019 10:54

AFAIK average first labour is 24 hours rather than 12

Kedgeree · 08/05/2019 10:55

afifthofkoolaid I was being sarcastic - that's the tone of reporting, not what I think about MM

BlingLoving · 08/05/2019 10:55

Broadly, I hate all the judging and complaints about every little thing and do think they can't seem to do anything right, particularly according to the main tabloid media.

Their one mistake was the labour thing. In retrospect, agreeing to say when she went into labour was a huge mistake. I can see how it happened - they had the vision of her labouring nicely at home over 12 hours or so. Figured they could put out an announcement at some point and then 24 hours later announce birth.

But as 90% of women who have given birth can tell you - the best laid plans go out the window. The decision to agree to announce labour was well intentioned but clearly a bad one.

And then they DID handle it badly. An announcement at 9am on Monday morning saying she'd gone into labour in the early hours of the morning would have been fine, even if the baby had been born. No one would realistically have expected a labour announcement at 2am (even my dad told me not to get in touch between 11:00-06:00 Grin ) and it would have worked better.

But that's a rookie mistake, probably based on new PR team and everyone finding their feet while simultaneously having a baby for the first time. Otherwise, I'm with Bertrand - I can't work out why everyone is so annoyed with them. And the American pool photographer/camera person seems perfectly reasonable to me in light of the fact that she's american and the american public is very interested.

Butterymuffin · 08/05/2019 10:58

I can't work it out either. The baby and mother have come through birth safely. Nothing to moan about given that.

AhoyDelBoy · 08/05/2019 10:59

@DevonUkelele yes that’s right, QLD time, channel 7. Hopefully that’s when we see pictures etc and they don’t muck around for ages. Surely not as they’re cutting into The Bay with the timing of it.

Elllllle · 08/05/2019 11:03

I was cross about the announcement waaaay back that essentially said they would let us know in the week following the birth.

Totally eating my words now as saying she was in labour early morning (even though potentially having already given birth) is completely factual and I have absolutely no issue with it. They did what they said they would and announced when she was in labour and then Harry did a gorgeous birth announcement.

DevonUkelele · 08/05/2019 11:04

Thanks @AhoyDelBoy! Shall have my eyes peeled (assuming this wretched election debate is over by then Hmm). At least that's not past my bedtime

pinkladyapples · 08/05/2019 11:07

I'm not watching channel 7 b for an hour to see the baby news. Let us know how it goes ahoy* Grin

BlingLoving · 08/05/2019 11:07

Also the outrage that the queen/charles etc haven't met the baby before a photocell is absolutely ridiculous. The baby doesn't belong to them. He's harry and Meghan's son and if they think they can get the media and the public off their backs so that they can chill out with their baby, they should bloody well go ahead and do it. This ridiculous over obsequiesness that people seem to expect of them when dealing with his father, grandmother etc is ridiculous. Ditto, Piers Morgan and his repeated calls for Meghan to be more respectful of her father. It makes me mad. These are, in fact, all real people. who are also a family. Their royal roles doesn't mean they are completely different to the rest of us.

CPV appears to have left the house in her pyjamas!

Who's the elderly lady with Sofia and HCP? One of king CG's older sisters? I know he has a few. She looks like she'd have been very glamorous back in the day.

This is Mumsnet where it's totally OK to not let your in-laws see the baby for six weeks, not tell them you are in labour etc. Unless of course you marry a royal.

queenofarles · 08/05/2019 11:18

Maybe M&H feel more comfortable doing the whole presenting the baby few days later,
While K&H felt it would be easier to do it on the day and over with it.
Both ways sound reasonable,
Different strokes for different folks.

UrsulaPandress · 08/05/2019 11:35

Piers Morgan is such a tosser.

Could he be any more bitter that Meghan saw through him and quickly dumped him.

Loathe his oily smug face.

SlipperOrchid · 08/05/2019 12:10

Meghan and Harry just can’t win. On the one hand there are told they are like Andrew and are unimportant. On the other hand there told their baby is a public matter and is important.

If people want to find issues with them they will regardless of what make of they do.

SlipperOrchid · 08/05/2019 12:13

And yes Piers Morgan is a better tosser.

And why people want to know the details and times of Meghan’s labour is beyond my comprehension.

frugalkitty · 08/05/2019 12:13

I can’t get too worked up about who gets to meet the baby when. I think it’s perfectly normal for families to pop in and meet a new baby over the first week or so, and I think most people realise that the new mum in particular needs a while to recover from the birth.

SlipperOrchid · 08/05/2019 12:14

*bitter not better although perhaps he is the best at being a tosser!!!!

Myimaginarycathasfleas · 08/05/2019 12:15

I think there was a lot more pressure on the D&DoC to present Prince George, who is the future King, as soon as possible. If they'd then done something different for Charlotte and Louis that might have attracted comment. Plus those children are also in the direct line of succession.

Things are different for the D&DOS. Their baby isn't important, other than to them as a family of course.

What I hope is that they will quietly recede into family life and resume royal duties without fuss in the fullness of time.

samsamsamsamsamsam · 08/05/2019 12:16

My friend was induced with her first and 3.5 hrs later the baby was here. She was 1.5wks overdue. So these things can happen very very quickly.

Myimaginarycathasfleas · 08/05/2019 12:16

Meghan and Harry just can’t win. On the one hand there are told they are like Andrew and are unimportant. On the other hand there told their baby is a public matter and is important.

I don't think these views are coming from the same sources though, @SlipperOrchid.
