Do you ‘whole body moisturise’ after washing?

I don’t but should I be? I only ever moisturise my face.

Used to but now that I have a baby I can't always be bothered! 2-3 times a week I'd say

FiveShelties · 08/05/2019 11:47

Another Vaseline Intensive Care Body Lotion user here - really cheap and my legs get really dry and itchy if I do not moisturise. Always use face moisturiser in the morning and sometimes at night.

WellTidy · 08/05/2019 11:59

Yes. I try and make sure I do my whole body every two days. I have lizard like skin though, so so dry.

I have used hundreds of body moisturisers over the years. I find that there is a huge difference in how effective they are. My moisturisers of choice now are the Garnier one in a turquoise bottle called Intensive & Days Body Lotion (down to £3 in Sainsburys this week, such good value) and the original Aveeno (has that oaty smell though, unlike the Garnier). I don't need loads so they are never wet and sticky.

I also find that the body lotion which comes with perfume sets as a gift (any scent at all) hugely moisturising.

And I say this having tried loads and loads.

I put them on when I am putting my pyjamas on.

Intensive 7 Days

SoyYo · 08/05/2019 15:35

@WellTidy I second the Garnier one and like you I have tried a fair few!
It’s great for summer (when my beloved body shop moringa body butter feels a little heavy, by summer I mean temperatures above 25C). Absorbs fast but still provides a good dose of moisture.
Btw I’m never greasy and usually use body butter or Garnier in summer (or Clarins for the fab smell) and within 5 minutes my skin has drunk it all in. Just nice and silky.

Maybe I am a sponge disguised as a human Grin

I’m going to need to switch to night time. Putting tights on freshly moisturised legs ain’t easy!

Catchingbentcoppers · 09/05/2019 06:28

The best thing I've found for drying quickly is plain old E45 (pump) @threedeepatthebar.

I shove it on, and I put it on really thickly as my skin is so dry through medication, brush my teeth etc and by the time I've combed my wet hair through its pretty dry to be honest. Certainly dry enough for tights I think.

threedeepatthebar · 09/05/2019 07:10

@Catchingbentcoppers good shout. I didn’t have the exact one you mentioned but I had the red top one, it’s ‘nourish and protect’ for dry skin I think and it certainly didn’t take as much work to rub in than the child’s farm as it was a lotion - the child’s farm is more of a cream so will see how it is when I’m getting dressed and switch to this.

Can’t believe the difference this has made to my skin in less than one week. Now if I can just get into some sort of fake tan routine I’ll be laughing. Don’t want to use a gradual moisturiser as I’ll need to be more careful when applying and not just slap it on Grin

ExpletiveDelighted · 09/05/2019 07:32

The SLS thing is a good point, I ditched shower gels for bar soap years ago, that might be one reason I don't need to use body lotion.

Funnyfarmer · 09/05/2019 12:47

Yes, mainly because I prefer the subtle smell on my skin, rather that over powering perfume.
I don't get why people don't have time. It takes less than a minute.

Reastie · 09/05/2019 13:08

Those recommending Garnier is it this one?

I rarely moisturise my body. I need to do my legs most times I shave but don’t generally bother. When I say armed going to my gym where the changing rooms are communal I was surprised how many women would always moisturise after showers. I use cream for dry feet on my legs as it’s the most effective moisturiser I've ever found for my legs. Got the recommendation from mn. Just wish it smelt more pleasant!

I have a theory that the more you do it the more your body gets used to it and so needs it. My lovely masseuse says when she goes on holiday and stops massaging people her hands get ridiculously sore and dry and she has to constantly put on hand cream as they are so used to having so much oil soaked on them a lot from when she massages with oil every day for work.

BiBabbles · 09/05/2019 13:10

Not regularly, though I'm trying to get better at that. The driest patches for me are my T-zone, jawline, - very weird and started within the last year - around my tailbone. No idea why, it just turned into a lizard patch.

FiremanKing · 09/05/2019 13:12

Every day I moisturise all over and have done for at least thirty five years or more.

I rotate three main ones, Rituals of Ayurveda cream in a tub, Clarins aloe body milk which is a lotion and Lancôme Nutrix Royal body lotion which is very rich and to be used sparingly.

I’ve got others but these are the main three.

I have had children and don’t have a single stretch mark, nor does my mother and she is the one that got me into moisturising daily.

Roussette · 09/05/2019 13:34

Yes. I'm in my sixties and I constantly moisturise all over after showering, bath, and sometimes in between. I have good skin, I don't burn in the sun, my skin has a gloss to it. My nightmare would be showering and not having body lotion with me.

If you want a cheap one, that is rich and really moisturises well, try this one... a huge tub is about £3.80 and sometimes Superdrug do buy one, get one half price. Excellent stuff.

Apart from that I use Molton Brown and Rituals. Both have good body cremes

Yes I do, I would get itchy if I didn't. Agree with avoiding SLS in all products, it's nasty.

Can you dress after littlemiss?

GiantKitten · 09/05/2019 17:34

Yes, another lizard-skinned one here.

Aveeno daily moisturising lotion is my best one now, after trying many many others. It soaks in quickly, isn’t at all sticky, & skin feels lovely afterwards. The only problem is the pump, which stops working when there’s still loads left - I have to cut the top off & scoop the rest out.

It’s usually on offer somewhere Smile

LordProfFekkoThePenguinPhD · 09/05/2019 18:18

I'm trying to - I love the smell of the body shop coco butter. I have very dry skin though so really should.

LordProfFekkoThePenguinPhD · 09/05/2019 18:19

All these ads popping up on the thread!🙂

myidentitymycrisis · 09/05/2019 19:43

yes I do, and I use a nylon towel to wash with, this one is from Body Shop but I used to get them in Muji,

www.thebodyshop.com/en-gb/body/accessories/body-polisher/p/p000739

Does anyone know if this is similar to the Korean cloths mentioned earlier? If not I might have to buy some

myidentitymycrisis · 09/05/2019 19:45

Roussette I use that Superdrug lotion as well. Very handy.

Roussette · 09/05/2019 22:29

Agree Myidentitymycrisis. I hate pump moisturisers, unless you cut it open you lose about a third of it. That one is a tub so you can get your hand right in!

foreverhanging · 09/05/2019 22:35

I'm lucky if I get the time to shower (small clingy toddler) let alone moisturise

elfycat · 09/05/2019 22:36

I rarely moisturise, even my face. I just wash with warm water and towel dry - I don't wear make up often so it self regulates as I don't strip off oils.

I am doing my lower legs at the moment, but that's because I have a bruise that's taking time to fade and the skin is dry (stopped a buggy tipping over with my shin). I'm also Vaseline-ing my heels at night in the hopes I don't look like a reptile in sandals.
