Does this dress look ok on me? (Pic included)

It's to wear for a wedding. I need it taken in and the skirt taken up a bit. Just worried it looks a bit too little girly/makes my hips look much bigger than they are.

I'm going to have to take it to pieces to make the adjustments so I'm now having cold feet and thinking I should just send it back and go for something a bit more fitted.

I'm early 30s, in case that makes a difference.

You look beautiful. I’d be more worried that you don’t have a face.

pictish · 01/05/2019 19:46

Honestly? If that’s your style, you’re nailing it. Very English rose, church wedding, garden party, tennis on the lawn etc.
It’s not my scene and I think you could wear something a bit more dynamic.

ChateauneufDuTwat · 01/05/2019 19:46

It looks gorgeous and is the perfect length.

Don't get it taken up - shorter will really ruin it's elegant vibes.

LimpidPools · 01/05/2019 19:49

It's really beautiful. To echo other posters, don't take it up, it's the perfect length as it is.

Can I ask where it's from?

Tana433 · 01/05/2019 19:52

Its a beautiful dress and you look lovely in it. Agree the length is fine. Go and enjoy the wedding!

LadyOfTheFlowers · 01/05/2019 19:57

It's gorgeous. Length is perfect. Nude sling backs would look lovely.

Hammondisback · 01/05/2019 19:58

I think it looks lovely on you, if the waist will fit the same when taken in. The length is good on you - it would probably look more girly if it were shorter. Fab dress, have a great time Smile

ImTheDamnFoolThatShotHim · 01/05/2019 19:59

Beautiful!

supersop60 · 01/05/2019 20:01

Looks great.

Cliveybaby · 01/05/2019 20:03

Ooh lovely - where's it from??

goldenchicken · 01/05/2019 20:03

Amazing. You look gorgeous! Smile Nice dress.......

lightsoul · 01/05/2019 20:08

I agree with everyone else you look great

catzrulz · 01/05/2019 20:11

The dress is really nice on you, however I can't get past the fact that the flowers don't match up between the bodice and the skirt. I would keep it the length it is, and you have nothing to worry about re your hips.
Actually, I don't think I'd buy it with the mis-matching on the fabric, can you get something similar but with a better pattern.

XingMing · 01/05/2019 20:13

It's a keeper. A seamstress, to tweak the imperfections that will be more evident to you than on the photo, will make it just as you want. And it will be a good go-to dress up dress for all summer occasions, and then just fine as a pretty posh BBQ dress (which only means the BBQ you are not running around serving!) If you get cold, just add a sweatshirt in a coordinating colour.

Ohyesiam · 01/05/2019 20:13

Before reading I just looked at the picture, and thought how lovely you looked , but that the skirt was an unflattering length as it sits on the wider part of your calf.
But yes, you have a great figure and look lovely

Madamedeluxe · 01/05/2019 20:20

I think it looks lovely but you could probably wear anything.

Trinpy · 01/05/2019 20:24

Thank you, very interesting comments. My friend told me the length was too mumsy and no I can't stop thinking that when I see it so I might still take it up a tiny bit.

Its from ChiChi and I can't get a smaller size because that's the smallest one they had. I am pulling in the fabric tight at the back in the photo, there is a LOT of spare fabric around the boob area.

It's an outdoor wedding (weather permitting) and I will have small dcs to run around after so I was thinking lowish to mid heels. Either a block heel or a wedge? Something that won't sink into the ground.

And I agree about the orange rash on my face, must get that seen to...

It looks lovely, but agree it would look even better made a bit shorter given as you're not wearing heels.

AdaColeman · 01/05/2019 20:35

Following on from you saying you would be looking after small children, all the more reason to keep the skirt at the length it is, as you'll be bending over, lifting etc.

Drochaid · 01/05/2019 20:43

M and s have super comfy nude wedges which would be lovely with it.

Trinpy · 01/05/2019 21:06

Good point Ada about having to bend down to deal with the dcs. I will not be picking any small people up as their muddy shoes will ruin my outfit. DH can do the lifting part.

Thanks Drochaid. I will take a look.

Gorgeous on you

BogglesGoggles · 01/05/2019 21:09

No don’t shorten it! The length is perfect. If you take it up it will be knee length which is the defection of mumsy. But do get it taken in if it’s too wide.

Trinpy · 01/05/2019 21:53

If you take it up it will be knee length which is the defection of mumsy.

Would just above the knee be ok? I feel like Maria in The Sound of Music swishing around in it at mid calf length Shock.

I love the length on you and the dress is really lovely.
