Struggling to find nice gym gear!

Flossyfloof · 01/05/2019 17:14

Hello,
I go to the gym a lot and do Pilates and Yoga too. I am really struggling to find nice, suitable matching tops and bottoms. I usually but cropped leggings which are about the right length for me. Top-wise I wear a sports bra and don’t want it showing so no racer backs. I don’t want to show off my upper arms so bracelet length or short sleeves are good. Crop tops no good and loose tops not ideal - no one wants to see what’s underneath when I’m upside down!
Please can you recommend some nice, pretty sets? I’m 58.
Thanks!

H&M do great work out gear!

ASDA do good stuff. I buy fancy bits too but I almost prefer their stuff, nice big waistbands!

SummersB · 02/05/2019 00:00

I’m in love with fabletics. Wouldn’t buy anything else now, especially leggings. Pricey though .

Flossyfloof · 02/05/2019 00:05

Thanks so much. My current favorite set is from Asda! I thought Fabletics was a bit pricey but I’ll have another look. Couldn’t see anything in M and S. I’ll check out the others online.

As much as it pains me to admit - I LOVE my Fabletics items.

I'm a hefty gal and they are very forgiving! Yes it's a monthly sign up, I set my reminder to skip every month (after swearing I would just cancel but damn the stuff is so good).

Sign up, get order, every month you have until 5th to 'skip' or else you're charged and monies held but available for future purchases.

Never in a month of Sunday's did I think I'd end up recommending them.

SansasSnatch · 02/05/2019 00:36

Have you tried matalan? My dd loves their stuff

AnnaNimmity · 02/05/2019 06:36

I wear Sweaty Betty or Lululemon - have you looked at them? pricey too, but you can usually find a discount code and they are very good quality. Power leggings at Sweaty Betty are so good!

XingMing · 02/05/2019 09:59

I'm older than you but just wear a regular t shirt (long sleeved Uniqlo henley mostly) over (Freya) sports bra and (Ronhill) running tights, then pull on a Hush ruched skirt so I can do my shopping/dog walking in a degree of modesty. It wins no pretty points though.

Flossyfloof · 02/05/2019 10:05

Thank you. I’ve looked at all of the suggestions and there seem to be so many pretty crop or strappy tops - not what I want at all. They look lovely but they wouldn’t on me and they certainly wouldn’t with my mega hefty sports bra showing underneath!
Thank you all though, for your suggestions.

I get all my workout stuff from Sweaty Betty as found it to be the best quality. They have t-shirts if you don’t want vest tops.

www.sweatybetty.com/shop/tops/t-shirts

They are pricey but I think worth it. Plus they have good sales, and if you sign up to their newsletter you get a discount code - I think it’s 10/15%.

Swiftier · 02/05/2019 11:13

Ah, just saw you said not loose tops so those SB might not be suitable!

eightyeightmilesperhour · 02/05/2019 11:20

Another fan of Matalan gymwear here - it's really reasonable and washes and lasts well.

I also love TK Maxx, Asda George and H&M.

Hearhere · 02/05/2019 11:25

The fabletics stuff does look good but I hate that business model with a passion, I think it encourages throwaway fashion and just recklessly buying things that you don't need 🤨
Have I misunderstood does it not really work like that?

Flossyfloof · 02/05/2019 11:26

I just don’t want my tummy on display to all and sundry!! My favorite outfit is from George but they don’t have anything suitable at the moment. I do want it matchy. Is that wrong? 😬
I don’t see anyone wearing crop tops at the gym and that’s all I can see!

Fabletics stuff looks nice but there are so few things that are suitable for wearing over a mega bra! What is it with backless frontless racer back tee shirts?!

XingMing · 02/05/2019 11:28

A couple of times when I've admired the local glamourpuss's Pilates outfit, she's said "came from Tesco". Maybe a bigger branch?

AnnaNimmity · 02/05/2019 16:58

Have you looked on Next online? They have lots of branded stuff too. I have some nike and reebok stuff from there (black leggings and tops) and they are loose. I run in mine. Sports Direct often has nike things that are discounted too.

I generally wear vest tops as I find they are cooler - certainly not cropped tops!

blodynmawr · 02/05/2019 18:00

Another vote for Fabletics.
Have a few bits from Next and M&S which I like but the Fabletics quality, with no loss of sucking in-ness after much washing, is greatSmile. Also like the pocket leggings to put my phone in Smile

Flossyfloof · 02/05/2019 18:33

Thanks, everyone. I really don’t want vest tops ( bingo wings) and just want leggings and a matching normal length tee shirt really, without a massive cutout at the back or a racer back which would expose a nice wide-strapped and 4-hooked bra. I can’t see anything like that on any one of the sites - I’ve looked at them all! I have bought nice stuff in Tesco, we do have quite a big one, but they don’t have anything at the moment 😢

"just wear a regular t shirt (long sleeved Uniqlo henley mostly) "

Wouldn't that just keep the sweat next to your body rather than wicking it away as sports tops claim to do.

BIWI · 02/05/2019 18:40

Sainsbury's do some nice gym gear - including some tops that are longer sleeves. I absolutely get that you don't want tight stuff!

Sports Direct is also a good source of stuff, although you have to keep looking - they don't always have anything.

TBH, I usually wear cropped leggings and then a baggy t-shirt over the top when I go to the gym. I'm really not bothered about them matching or looking nice!

Decathlon do decent sports clothing at very reasonable prices.
