Can i say thank you to the poster who suggested I use jojoba oil to help with sebaceous filaments!?

I started a thread a little while ago complaining about blackheads, turns out they were sebaceous filaments. I had no idea! I was about to start squeezing them..

I also have peri oral dermatitis and was worried about using anything that might cause a flare up. Then someone (can't remember the name from the top of my head) suggested I use an oil cleansing method using jojoba oil.

Well it's been great! Before, every single pore on my nose and chin was grey-black. Now there's patches of totally clear skin on my nose and ones that are left have really faded. I have none on my chin and the few I had on my cheeks have totally vanished too! 😃 hopefully it won't be long until my niae has cleared up too.

Initally I did have a little flare up with my peri oral dermatitis but I put that down to my skin purging itself from all the horrible aqueous cream (that my gp prescribed..) I had been using for years, after around two weeks of that the dermatitis is vanishing too! Annnd the rest of my skin is looking a lot clearer!

So thank you to whoever you were!!

(Sorry to everyone else but I did say I would report back Grin)

Oh my god! I’ve had these on my nose for ever! I’m going to try this, thank you!

I'm using a flannel

Hi, sorry to bump this after so long. I've been hot cloth cleansing with jojoba oil for 6 weeks now, every night, but it's made no difference to the sebaceous filaments all over my nose, which I've had forever.

What am I doing wrong?!

I massage the oil into my nose for a minute, then use a hot, wet flannel to wipe it off, sometimes putting the flannel on my face for a bit to open the pores. I double cleanse to make sure I get all my makeup off so I then use micellar water on a cotton wool pad.

I've then been alternating between putting lactic acid, or glycolic acid (nip + fab pads) or retinoid on my face before bed. I use a body shop tea tree oil foaming cleanser with flannel in the morning to try and slough off all the skin cells that have been exfoliated overnight. I also use the ordinary BHA/DHA masking liquid once a week, and nip + fan extreme glycolic acid pads twice a week.

My skin is lovely, smooth and glowing but I still have these unsightly dots all over my nose and I can't stand them! Is there ANYTHING else I can do?????

Have you tried adding in Castor oil? I read online that oil is stronger at pulling everything out and a mix of jojoba and castor oil is working for me. Make sure to apply oil on dry skin (do not wet it first!), take a very warm wer flannel over your face and hold it there a few seconds till it cools down then remove the oil using the flannel, keep warming/wetting flannel until you get everything off. I go in with Cerave Hydrating Cleanser fory second cleanse. This combo seems to be really working for me.

SapphireBattersea · 12/06/2019 21:15

I have heard that too. But when I tried it I found Castor oil really sticky and viscous and it felt horrible on my skin

3luckystars · 12/06/2019 21:33

I'm going to try this too. Thank you

LightOfAThousandStars · 14/06/2019 23:19

SapphireBattersea have you tried mixing it with Jojoba oil?

SapphireBattersea · 15/06/2019 09:42

Yeah but it's still quite sticky!

@Newadventure @Tolleshunt

Apologies for resurrecting an old thread... but I’m dying to see if this worked on everybody?!

I have shocking sebaceous filaments,
Nothing dissolves these motherfuckerz...

Goldenphoenix · 21/06/2020 20:29

Glad i found this thread! I'm a fan of using castor and jojoba oil as moisturisers but hadn't thought to use it to cleanse. Definitely going to give this a go! Thanks OP

Tolleshunt · 21/06/2020 21:39

Hi Mawbags (love the name btw!).

I still cleanse with jojoba oil, and definitely find it the best way to keep them under control. Good luck with it!

Oil cleansing method has been around donkeys years. You need to play around with oil ratios to get what works for your skin- eg add a more moisturising oil for dry, add castor for oily, mix for combo skin etc.

Jojoba works well as its compounds are similar (or as similar as an oil you can buy) gets to sebum, which occurs naturally in the skin. When you use it you regulate sebum production (theoretically).

I do like and use it but I would be wary if you get breakouts as I always found leaving it on to cause them. Instead I use oil as the first cleanse, then a a cream cleanser with flannel. I put a drop or two of jojoba in moisturiser when my skin is dry and really rate it for that.
