Can i say thank you to the poster who suggested I use jojoba oil to help with sebaceous filaments!?

I started a thread a little while ago complaining about blackheads, turns out they were sebaceous filaments. I had no idea! I was about to start squeezing them..

I also have peri oral dermatitis and was worried about using anything that might cause a flare up. Then someone (can't remember the name from the top of my head) suggested I use an oil cleansing method using jojoba oil.

Well it's been great! Before, every single pore on my nose and chin was grey-black. Now there's patches of totally clear skin on my nose and ones that are left have really faded. I have none on my chin and the few I had on my cheeks have totally vanished too! 😃 hopefully it won't be long until my niae has cleared up too.

Initally I did have a little flare up with my peri oral dermatitis but I put that down to my skin purging itself from all the horrible aqueous cream (that my gp prescribed..) I had been using for years, after around two weeks of that the dermatitis is vanishing too! Annnd the rest of my skin is looking a lot clearer!

So thank you to whoever you were!!

(Sorry to everyone else but I did say I would report back Grin)

Thanks, I'll purchase some Extra Virgin Olive Oil today! See how I go. I just want plump skin!

MushroomTree · 30/04/2019 22:31

Does the oil cleansing method work if you have oily skin and cystic acne? My head is saying that oil + oil isn't going to be a good combination Confused

Tolleshunt · 30/04/2019 22:36

It worked for me, Mushroom, and I'm the oiliest of the oilies. I don't have cystic acne, though. I did used to have common or garden acne (from age 10 until very late thirties, when I discovered oil cleansing).

It works as the oil particles in the jojoba etc are larger than the sebum particles, and therefore attract the sebum to stick to them. You then remove both jojoba and sebum with the hot cloth. I find it takes all oil away, but leaves the skin comfortable and soft, not stripped. When I used any other cleanser, especially foaming ones, however gentle they said they were, they stripped my skin, which resulted in it pumping out more oil. My skin is quite sensitive, in that it over-reacts to almost everything by pumping out more oil.

I'm still oily, but no longer spotty and full of blackheads.

50shadesofgreyrock · 30/04/2019 22:37

Yes. Give it a go. I have very oily skin and it is always MUCH better I use OCM.

MushroomTree · 30/04/2019 22:43

Thanks. I've had a quick Google about the method so I think I'll order some oil and give it a go. Fed up of being so oily my make up slides off my face! And the enormous boils that never come to a head all over my face/neck Angry

NearlySchoolTimeAgain · 30/04/2019 22:48

How have you found the sun afterwards? I got sunburnt after a facial recently and I think it was the oil that caused it.

Tolleshunt · 30/04/2019 23:17

I haven't found a problem with sun (well, not more than usual, as I am quite fair). You wipe all the oil off afterwards, then apply serum/moisturiser etc as usual, so there will be no oil left on the skin.

MintyT · 01/05/2019 06:25

Interesting, I have googled, do I need to take my makeup off with makeup remover i.e ponds cold cream or Estée Lauder take it all away 1st then use the oil, or just the oil

Bortusesmoustache · 01/05/2019 06:38

With double cleansing you use the oil first, to remove the make up, and then use a gentle wash to clean your skin.

Tolleshunt · 01/05/2019 06:46

Yes, the oil removes the make-up. I don't do a double cleanse, as I find the first one cleans very well on its own, and face washes irritate my skin, so avoiding them is a real bonus for me. Others do like to, though, I know.

PigOnStilts · 01/05/2019 14:40

Tolleshunt, no it was ok! Peeled after a couple of days and dot are so much smaller and lighter now!

DevaDiva · 19/05/2019 21:05

Just dropping in to say thanks for the tip. My DD used the Jojoba oil for the first time yesterday and is in love with it!

bakedbeanzontoast · 20/05/2019 00:53

Jojoba oil is great - I use it on hair and face. It's an excellent moisturiser and oddly doesn't bring about spots!!

bakedbeanzontoast · 20/05/2019 00:54

I get mine from naturally thinking online

FiremanKing · 20/05/2019 07:48

I like Pixi rose oil blend. It’s not greasy.

This is a good guide on how to oil cleanse, i find olive oil really good to use.

insecure123 · 20/05/2019 09:16

I have just been reading up on the oil cleansing method so this thread is timely for me. i don't suffer too badly with spots (other than the odd hormonal one) but I do have those horrible sebaceous (is that right) things across my nose which I used to think were blackheads! I have tried almost everything!

dontgobaconmyheart · 20/05/2019 16:11

The OCM has been around years and I just think it will work for some people and not for others tbh. Skin often produces excess oil and sebum when it's dehydrated so using a non conodegenic (non pore blocking oil) for cleansing or moisturising will likely help for those who's blemishes are as a result of dehydrated or overtreated skin, and won't for those who's blemishes or acne are caused by another culprit. Such as hormones or bacterial strains of acne.

Jojoba is the oil of choice due to its chemical makeup being (allegedly) the closest to skins natural sebum but people often blend oils together when they oil cleanse to make a blend that suits them, such as castor oil, then a carrier oil such as jojoba or grapeseed etc. You then adjust the oils to suit your skin type so more castor oil for those with an oilier complexion etc.

I loved it when I started doing it a few years ago but found if I did it every day, over time it gave me cystic spots that were under the skin and hard to shift. Those scarred and it really put me off using it exclusively. I oil cleanse now when I've worn heavy make up or I know my skin is dehydrated or feeling dry and the rest of the time double cleanse and this works for me!

Rollerbird · 20/05/2019 19:52

Just ordered jojoba oil!
(baaa)

LightOfAThousandStars · 22/05/2019 21:50

I've been trying this for the past few days after reading about it here and am so far very pleased with how clean my skin feels after using this method. Jojoba oil removes my foundation even better than the expensive Clinique balm I was using before. Thanks for sharing your positive results with us OP.

smeerf · 23/05/2019 13:16

I tried the OCM with jojoba oil last night for the first time (after reading this thread) and my face feels amazing! Just splashed some warm water on my face this morning like OP suggested.

I'm usually this awful combination of dry and oily with terrible blackheads (well, sebaceous filaments) all over my nose which I try and cover with copious amounts of foundation, which then slips off with the grease.

I've decided to try it for a month, as well as swearing off foundation to let my pores recover. I had to really pluck up the courage to leave the house this morning - I don't think I've left the house without makeup in years - but now I'm out and the sun is shining, it's not so bad.

Rollerbird · 27/05/2019 09:56

I've been using the jojoba with ocm for a few days.
So far so good. Soft skin.
Trying for a month too! 😁

DuchessSybilVimes · 27/05/2019 10:13

I've been doing oil cleansing for about 5 days and I love it! Need to buy some jojoba oil as at the moment I'm using burts bees baby oil mixed with tea tree oil and eucalyptus oil (I cobbled together what I had in the house!). It's working though and I love it! Sebaceous filaments are shrinking and my skin feels lovely. I've always had really oily skin and have never had clear skin - there's always clogged, enlarged pores and spots. This is actually working. So pleased I found this thread!

Must buy actual jojoba oil next. Think I will also get some aloe vera oil to add in. I like experiments!

Tatapie · 27/05/2019 13:22

I'm going to try this, what kind of cloth do you all use? I've got flannels?! Blush

DuchessSybilVimes · 27/05/2019 13:28

I'm using whatever ive got clean at the time! Flannels, baby washcloth, muslin. Muslins definitely the best for exfoliating.
