Can i say thank you to the poster who suggested I use jojoba oil to help with sebaceous filaments!?

I started a thread a little while ago complaining about blackheads, turns out they were sebaceous filaments. I had no idea! I was about to start squeezing them..

I also have peri oral dermatitis and was worried about using anything that might cause a flare up. Then someone (can't remember the name from the top of my head) suggested I use an oil cleansing method using jojoba oil.

Well it's been great! Before, every single pore on my nose and chin was grey-black. Now there's patches of totally clear skin on my nose and ones that are left have really faded. I have none on my chin and the few I had on my cheeks have totally vanished too! 😃 hopefully it won't be long until my niae has cleared up too.

Initally I did have a little flare up with my peri oral dermatitis but I put that down to my skin purging itself from all the horrible aqueous cream (that my gp prescribed..) I had been using for years, after around two weeks of that the dermatitis is vanishing too! Annnd the rest of my skin is looking a lot clearer!

So thank you to whoever you were!!

(Sorry to everyone else but I did say I would report back Grin)

Thank you for sharing this, I have great skin but I am going to try the method anyway as it sounds like a lovely frugal alternative to branded skincare.

BusterGonad · 29/04/2019 17:41

I'm tempted, would virgin olive oil be okay?

BusterGonad · 29/04/2019 17:43

The reason I want to try is because I have severe dehydrated under eye area. I've been prone to it for years, when I'm run down my eyes look like that of a woman twice my age. I have IBD so I'm often run down and it depresses me to see such old eyes looking back! I'm 40 ffs!

JellyTots2009 · 29/04/2019 17:48

I've been using oil infused micellar water for about two weeks now, I was using just normal micellar water but this one seems to make my skin so soft and my pimples look much better.
Is it the oil in it?
I think I might try this jojoba oil as I have the clogged pores on my nose and my cheeks by the nose.
Thanks for the tip

Drum2018 · 29/04/2019 18:05

Will definitely be taking a trip to holland and Barrett this week. Thanks!

Rachelle11 · 29/04/2019 18:10

Thank you for posting this!!

pattyhoo · 29/04/2019 18:20

Thank you for sharing this! Can't wait to try it!

Tolleshunt · 29/04/2019 18:32

Buster I have used extra virgin olive oil when I have run out of grapeseed/jojoba. It does the job in a pinch, but I found it stung quite a bit.

wizzywig · 29/04/2019 18:39

Ah this explains why when i squeeze them out, they return a few days later

CurbsideProphet · 29/04/2019 18:39

@Newadventure I have peri oral dermatitis and sebaceous filaments, so this advice is great! I'm going to try this.

As an aside I would never use aqueous cream on my face, it sounds like your GP isn't well up on dermatology? I use Dermal 500 Lotion (behind the pharmacy counter) after it was recommended by a dermatologist.

wizzywig · 29/04/2019 18:41

Sorrydid you say you use it every night?

OrdinaryGirl · 29/04/2019 18:55

Thank you so much for this thread OP - I hadn't seen the original one and then read this and realise sebaceous filaments are what's on my nose not blackheads! What a star you are for posting and thank you @Tolleshunt for a solution. ❤️

Whizzler · 29/04/2019 18:58

Plain olive oil is better than virgin. I often use it when I run out of my usual oil cleanser.

Tolleshunt · 29/04/2019 19:29

Yvw OrdinaryGirl!

Newadventure · 29/04/2019 19:42

Buster if you want to try olive oil I would use extra virgin, the reason I say that is because it's cold pressed and the first oil that comes out of the olives, it has the most vitamins. (Just something I learned ages ago when I was looking for a moisturizer other than the crap cream the gp gave me Angry yes, I was told to use it as a wash AND moisturizer 🙄) try it, it depends on your skin really, if it's just dry it should be fine as it's an amazing moisturizer. I got to the point I was using it from head to toe!
Feeling all ancient Greek like (its what they used to do) and smelling like a dressed salad Grin

jelly yep it most probably is the oil in it! Amazing stuff eh!?

curb no she didn't have a clue, she actually caused it from prescribing me steroid cream for 8 months then telling me the rash was because I was allergic to makeup 😒 I'm even more annoyed now to find out aqueous cream has something in it which makes it worse.. almost 3 years this has gone on for!!

wizzy yeah I do it every night. I only need to splash water on my face in the morning.

Everyone else, you're welcome!! Glad I could share, I'm only the messenger it was tolleshunts idea!

Funny how less is more for skin care, we're sold all this crap and it only makes things worse. Gentle and natural is the way to go.

Hope you all get good results too!

Come back and let us know! Smile

I agree that less is definitely more, especially if you have any kind of sensitivity at all. When I have tried all the bells and whistles, I haven't found any great difference in wrinkles, etc, so it's not worth the extra money or spots.

Tolleshunt · 29/04/2019 20:35

Oh, and it was just an idea I pinched off another area of the Internet, many moons ago!

PigOnStilts · 29/04/2019 21:19

I used bazuka (for verrucas) on my nose...it's 12% salicylic acid and 4% lactic acid, did it like a mask for two days and gas dramatically improved them!

Tolleshunt · 29/04/2019 22:04

Woah, didn't that smart a bit, Pig?!

CurbsideProphet · 29/04/2019 22:34

Newadventure are you sensitive to Lanolin? It's awful for me and is in lots of creams like aqueous and E45.

Do you think jojoba oil would work on my upper arm bumps? I get married in the autumn and will have some arm out which I'm regretting now!

Bitconfused75 · 29/04/2019 22:42

@CurbsideProphet I've heard Eucerin Urea Body Cream - the 10% one is good for bumpy arms.

MariaNovella · 29/04/2019 22:48

For smooth upper arms, try using a liquid Savon de Marseille with a friction mit.

CurbsideProphet · 29/04/2019 22:53

Great tips thank you Smile

MumNeedsTea · 29/04/2019 23:09

OP, I don't have the same skin condition as you, but about 5 years ago my perfect skin was suddenly covered with white heads and black heads. Someone on mumsnet suggested the oil cleansing method and I've stuck to it since then! It has worked wonders for my skin and my mum is also a convert now Grin

For those asking which jojoba oil, this is the one I have been buying for a few years now Organic Jojoba Pure... [[https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B000Q351JG?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_shar&tag=mumsnetforu03-21e]]

You can try other oils too. If you Google oil cleansing method, you will find a whole list of various oils for different skin conditions. I tried a couple which didn't suit me and then someone on here suggested that jojoba is the safest option as the composition of jojoba oil closely represents the sebum that your skin produces naturally. So it's unlikely that your skin would reject jojoba oil.

I love my jojoba oil and had to come on here to share my experience Smile
