Is it still a mumbob if its wavy?

I cut my own hair according to a youtube tutorial Grin its not horrific, but im not happy, it takes a lot of styling to make it look GOOD. I think it can be fixed by hacking it off just above the shoulder, but im horrified at the thought of being mumbobbed! My hair is naturally wavy/curly though, would it be edgg enough that way to not make me frumpy? I had a proper classic bob when i was 10 (and weirdly my hair was straighter?) and it just looked gross.

Also, any reccs for products to enhance waves, my hair is v fine and can go cloudlike. Done curlygirl but didnt get on with it.

Yes, sorry.

Beanybye · 26/04/2019 22:25

All this ‘mumbob’ nonsense pisses me off, what the hell’s wrong with having a bob?! For some of us with super fine hair that goes straggly past the chin/shoulders it’s our only option! My bob’s not gross, it’s the best I can do with the hair I’ve got! It’s actually upsetting to think that anyone looks at my bob and is ‘horrified’ by the thought of their hair being the same.

I know this is probably a lighthearted thread yada yada but I do wish people were a bit more sensitive to others and I’ve seen the ‘mumbob’ being slated on here so many times recently it’s starting to really tick me off.

MotherOfGodFella · 26/04/2019 22:29

Putting the word “mum” in front of anything to imply it’s something crap and dowdy really fucks me off.

It’s a bob. Many women have them.

TheRhythmlessMan · 26/04/2019 22:35

Be grateful to have hair at all.

orangejuiced · 26/04/2019 23:23

I've never heard of a mum Bob. Unless money is really tight why not just go to a recommended local salon and get a nice cut? The hairdresser will be able to advise on something that'll suit you.

OnlineAlienator · 26/04/2019 23:27

Yeah i'll go to a salon, sometimes i dont have the opportunity or money, sometimes i like to experiment!

Thanks for your honesty borntobequiet Wink

Guna ignore all the mumbob lovers. I am grateful to have hair and like to make the most of it, is that wrong in the style and beauty section? Hmm

But you're using the term mumbob in a derogative way (like some others do as well) that's why people are objecting

Onacleardayyoucansee · 26/04/2019 23:33

I think ypu shoukd confront your hairdresser Grin

DD (15) has a wavy bob, looks great.

OnlineAlienator · 26/04/2019 23:39

Who uses mumbob in a flattering way? Quit trying to deny its a well known phenomenon. Ppl are free to object, it just won't make a difference.

Who uses mumbob at all?

Putting mum in front of anything to use in derogatory fashion is pretty bloody ridiculous and (as proved in this thread) means you just get ripped apart over it and receive no actual help.

Grow up.

A bob can look great if you have the face shape and hair texture for it.

It seems you have convinced yourself you have neither...off you pop to make the most out of your hair...I’d suggest consulting an actual hairdresser rather than hacking at it yourself though.

Quintella · 26/04/2019 23:53

Avoid if there's a chance you'll end up with a barnet like this.

Is it still a mumbob if its wavy?
Gentlemanwiththistledownhair · 26/04/2019 23:53

The telling thing about mum-anything (bob, boots etc) is that no one can actually define or agree about what it actually is.
Which suggests it doesn't really exist in isolation. No single haircut (or boot) is suddenly going to turn a formally stylish person into a dowdy frump. Hmm

BettyBooJustDoinTheDoo · 27/04/2019 00:05

I think Quintella has defined it.

DameDoom · 27/04/2019 00:38

A frumpy bob is exactly what it says on the tin - Mrs Fatface/White Stuff lady will have it.
A proper bob takes a lot of work. It needs to be styled and cannot be cut in 10 mins at the local salon.
A good bob is a rare beast but lovely.

BobbiPins · 27/04/2019 00:42

I think a wavy bob is great

It needs styling though

T1nah · 27/04/2019 01:20

Guna ignore all the mumbob lovers

Guna?

OnlineAlienator · 27/04/2019 01:41

Yes guna, i'm on night shifts, i'll abbreviate where i like.

It's nothing to do with my face shape of hair texture banjo, i just dont want to live up to the mumbob cliche and/or look frumpy, so off you pop to your 'we love bobs under all circumstances' thread. Hmm

OnlineAlienator · 27/04/2019 01:43

Quintella....i think that may be reality....thanks for talking me down Grin seems i'm stuck with extensive styling if i go shorter too. Might chance a salon for a bit of a tidy/spruce and just wait for growth!

T1nah · 27/04/2019 01:44

So you're not guna have a bob, OP?

OnlineAlienator · 27/04/2019 01:48

I'm guna make you have one!

T1nah · 27/04/2019 02:03

I've got one already, hun 😃

darceybussell · 27/04/2019 02:20

Hang on... What is a mumbob?? *checks mirror

Downunderduchess · 27/04/2019 02:27

I think colouring can make a difference and keep it quite contemporary looking, think balayage or ombré colours. It also helps to give fine hair a bit more oomph. So have the cut you like to suit your hair type and stay fashionable on trend etc. with modern colouring techniques.
