Is it still a mumbob if its wavy?

I cut my own hair according to a youtube tutorial Grin its not horrific, but im not happy, it takes a lot of styling to make it look GOOD. I think it can be fixed by hacking it off just above the shoulder, but im horrified at the thought of being mumbobbed! My hair is naturally wavy/curly though, would it be edgg enough that way to not make me frumpy? I had a proper classic bob when i was 10 (and weirdly my hair was straighter?) and it just looked gross.

Also, any reccs for products to enhance waves, my hair is v fine and can go cloudlike. Done curlygirl but didnt get on with it.

My hair turned wavy and I have it cut to accentuate the wave, stacked on the back with the sides coming down longer in the front. Although I get it cut every 6-8 weeks, it's VERY easy to style. Mush in some mousse and dry with a diffuser while scrunching.

OnlineAlienator · 27/04/2019 02:40

Well that sounds ok....

I've never heard of a mumbob until now... I've alternated between pixie crops and bobs for years because my hair is so fine and I don't have a lot (cheers mum... possible that all the colours I've had have spoilt it too but we don't mention that 😂) so shorter styles are what with for me.

I love a wavy chin length bob as per images shared by pps. I don't think there's anything particularly mumsy about a bob. I find mumsy hairstyles to be anything a mum has... Long, short, dead straight, wavy, curly, hairstyles that even nonmums have 😊

MetroFly · 27/04/2019 03:16

I'm just about to get a bob (actually sitting in the hairdresser chair), and I'm pretty stylish but I'm sick of long hair. I've got to the point where it feels anyone trying to look young grows their hair long.

Time for a change!

And it's 'gonna' if you're going to abbreviate Wink

Beanybye · 27/04/2019 06:19

Guna ignore all the mumbob lovers. I am grateful to have hair and like to make the most of it, is that wrong in the style and beauty section?

Of course you can ‘make the most of it’ but you don’t have to be so rude about a hairstyle that many of us have! You could have just asked how to make your hair stylish, you didn’t have to be so derogatory.

I know you’re going to ignore me. I’m the type of person who would have acknowledged that my OP was a bit mean spirited but I know not everyone’s like that. It’s nice to be nice, you can get style and fashion advice without putting other people down.

OnlineAlienator · 27/04/2019 07:06

I didnt coin the term mumbob Hmm my OP isnt mean spirited, im talking about myself and what i want, if other ppl are happy with their mumbobs then crack on its a free world. Must be nice to have a life so pleasant you prioritise flapping over a strangers opinion of a haircut lol

I think people are being touchy here. A ‘mum bob’ is undoubtedly a thing. As a post menopausal woman who had one I have personal experience of it. I think it is the modern version of the weekly shampoo and set my gran’s generation had. What looked sleek and shiny and fashionable when I was in my 20s looked dated when I was 55.

I only realised how aging it was when I was in a Pilates class one day holding a plank position. I was zoned out staring in vast and unforgiving mirror in front of me when it suddenly dawned on me that out of the 30 or so participants everyone of us was a woman of a certain age and nearly all of us had some version of a highlighted, chin length bob. It looked great on some, less so on others. I am an awkward cuss and don’t want to be a clone so I grew mine out.

All that being said, a wavy bob can look great and more youthful than the blow dried helmet I used to have. Give it a go OP.

OnlineAlienator · 27/04/2019 07:18

I also notice most of my mates sure enough do pop a baby out then lop off their longer locks! For practicality, i assume. I realised the mumbob i had heard about really was a thing Shock I did the baby bit but like you whyohwhy i dont want to be a clone! Its just not me.

It is mean spirited as is your last sentence.

Must be nice to have a life so pleasant you prioritise flapping over a strangers opinion of a haircut lol

So expressing an opinion is now ‘flapping’ and I’m making this ‘flapping’ a priority in my life.....🤔

You clearly don’t give a shit about what I’ve said so I won’t waste anymore of my time on it. ‘Lol’

Emilydickensonsdogs · 27/04/2019 07:22

I know what you mean OP. I have a bob, but with colour etc to make the best of my fine hair. My hair is not my best feature but I have good clothes, jewellery and wear make up etc so I know overall I don’t looked frumpy.

Sounds like this style is not for you. Go to a salon and see what they can do and in the meantime maybe wear your hair up?

Any hair style can look frumpy if not styled correctly or on the wrong face shape etc.

madcatladyforever · 27/04/2019 07:26

Nope, curly hair is always great.

Seems opinion is really split on the ACTUAL issue...hmmm.....

prettyLittlefool · 27/04/2019 07:28

@Beanybye you really are flapping. Let it go. If you have to respond so defensively to a haircut perhaps you don't like it yourself??

Loopytiles · 27/04/2019 07:33

Some of your posts are rude.

“Mum_” is sexist and derogatory.

MorrisZapp · 27/04/2019 07:37

I've been an avid magazine reader these past thirty years and as far as I can see, there are very few hairstyles that can't be described as a bob.

Got hair? It's a bob.

mimibunz · 27/04/2019 07:42

I have a mumbob and I’m not even a mum. Confused Maybe have a look at Pinterest, OP? See if any styles jump out at you?

RuffleCrow · 27/04/2019 07:42

I'm with you beany i've had a bob of some kind most of my life - it's classic, chic and stops my fine hair looking like lank rat's tails. It hasn't suddenly become a bad idea because of what some randoms on the internet think.

In the words of Fleabag (the very gorgeous and unmumsy owner of a bob herself) "Claire, it's french" Wink

Loopytiles · 27/04/2019 07:44

“Mumsy” is another sexist term.

Don’t hear the term “dadsy” used as an insult.

Decormad38 · 27/04/2019 07:48

WTF does mumbob actually mean? A bob worn by a mum? What is that all about? It’s a haircut. People have different hairstyles. So what?

mistermagpie · 27/04/2019 07:54

I've got a bob but it's more of the kind of short angled bob posh spice had back when she was blonde. Mine is also coloured in quite a modern way which makes it trendier than most of my friends, who seem to universally have one-length hair which is just below their shoulders. Not all bobs are frumpy.

That Jennifer Anniston one is though, so avoid that OP.

SaveOurSausages · 27/04/2019 08:35

All this ‘mumbob’ nonsense pisses me off, what the hell’s wrong with having a bob?!

Agree! Had a Bob throughout my 20s before I became a mum!

MorrisZapp · 27/04/2019 08:53

Can anyone show me a hairstyle that isn't a bob.

KooMoo · 27/04/2019 09:02

I’m another one who hasn’t heard the term ‘mumbob’ before but your use was obviously derogatory.

OP the tone of your posts are quite rude, patronising and not very nice.

You can have whatever hairstyle you want but you’ll still be rude.

PickAChew · 27/04/2019 11:07

As a fellow wavy with a Bob, you might find this helpful.
www.naturallycurly.com/curlreading/wavy/here-are-the-top-5-mistakes-wavies-make-when-starting-the-curly-girl-method

I don't co-wash because it leaves my scalp horrible. I use a sulphate free shampoo, a rich silicone free conditioner becsuse my hair is coarse, but I rinse it right out. Then I use a tiny amount of cantu curl activator, plop just for a few minutes then diffuse dry. Too little activator and it makes the pic above look sleek. Too much and it feels disgusting and I look like medusa.
