Is it still a mumbob if its wavy?

I cut my own hair according to a youtube tutorial Grin its not horrific, but im not happy, it takes a lot of styling to make it look GOOD. I think it can be fixed by hacking it off just above the shoulder, but im horrified at the thought of being mumbobbed! My hair is naturally wavy/curly though, would it be edgg enough that way to not make me frumpy? I had a proper classic bob when i was 10 (and weirdly my hair was straighter?) and it just looked gross.

Also, any reccs for products to enhance waves, my hair is v fine and can go cloudlike. Done curlygirl but didnt get on with it.

I’d prefer a well cut ‘mum’ bob to a ‘hack at your own f*ck up’ type of hair do tbh.
I think bobs look fab on dark hair, all sleek & sharp. Why don’t you go to a hairdresser to sort it and let them suggest something which would suit you, and specify ‘no bobs’?

SrSteveOskowski · 27/04/2019 11:39

@Loopytiles, but you hear the terms 'Dad trainers' and 'Dad dancing'.

Be cautious OP. You don't want to venture too close to a "Can I speak to the manager?" haircut Grin

I love a bob, I’m growing my pixie back out to a bob. I’ve mostly had bobs or pixie cuts and love them.

Got this today.

Looking like a mum or old or not too thin is just so awful.

Disclaimer: not my opinion.

EatenByDinosaurs · 27/04/2019 12:49

I have the answer OP, you just need to move house, or preferably emigrate Grin

Here (not UK) all the mums have long swishy hair, usually swishing or tied into some kind of messy bun, so I look stylish and edgy with my long wavy bob Grin.

As PPs have said, get the hairstyle which suits your face shape etc, as that's the style which will look best in you, regardless of what its called.

I have a heart shaped face and long hair looks awful on me, it makes me look very young and little girly in a weird Disney princess kind of way. My bob on the other hand works wonders to enhance the shape of my face and style.

All haircuts and not created equal - what one hairdresser can make look gorgeous and wavy another can make look like Lego hair, so choose your hairdresser well - that's probably the sole bit which will make the most difference! Grin

SinkGirl · 27/04/2019 12:53

It needs styling though

But how? I have hair that’s like the longer version and it’s a bit wavy but not in a nice way like that - in a frizzy clumpy awful way.

How do you style waves like that?

Loopytiles · 27/04/2019 13:33

Have never heard of “dad trainers”: what are they like?

In my day the most morifying dads wore Jesus sandals with socks.

Have heard “dad bod” and dancing.

Whizzler · 27/04/2019 13:35

I bet Jeremy Clarkson wears dad jeans and listens to dad rock whilst telling dad jokes in his car.

TheClaifeCrier · 27/04/2019 13:37

I'm glad I don't know people like you in real life.

OnlineAlienator · 27/04/2019 13:37

KooMoo - you are surprised? Clue's in the name.

Once more for those at the back; i didnt incent the term mumbob, i just recognise it as a phenomenon and dont want to take part. Some posters understand and have offered advice, for which i thank them....even if it is completely split Grin

Now, Fleabag's bob is awesome and deffo what makes me think you can do a non frumpy bob, but i'm not 20s thin so im not sure it would work as a look

Yes Whizzler Grin ...i like a bit of dad rock though? THE TERM MUST BE WRONG!!!

Keep trying Claife. Maybe one day, a mumsnet comment will be the thing to thaw my frozen heart?

Curly mumbob = 80s mumbob

DelilahTheSlagFromTheBible · 27/04/2019 13:46

mimibunz I really like that! It's lovely.

Funnyfarmer · 27/04/2019 13:56

I've never heard of a mumbob! Just off to check Google images.

OnlineAlienator · 27/04/2019 13:59

I like mimibunz's version, mine would look lije that for 12 seconds after styling, then once it sniffed humidity it would develop kinks that make no sense.

Ok I'm back. Your post comes up on Google images op.
I think they look nice. My 18 yr old dd has a mumbob. Should I be worried?
Op if you think your wavey mumbob looks nice than keep it. One thing I've learned from here is mum's are gonna bitch about you what ever you do. I do applaud you for even remembering you have hair after working night shifts, especially if you have kids.
What didn't you like about the cg method?
It's been tweaked abit more over the last year, with people using sulphate free shampoos instead of just condioner. Would you not consider giving it another Try?

cliquewhyohwhy · 27/04/2019 14:09

I've got wavy hair and anything above my shoulder makes me hair look awful without styling it everyday which I'm not going to do. The weight of long hair give me the beach wave look most days.

OnlineAlienator · 27/04/2019 14:12

I notice the other mumbob mumsnet thread on goigle managed a discussion about hair without anyone losing their shit lol

I dont currently have a bob, its currently just long n layered. I have a good natural blonde and when its groomed it looks great tbf. I just dont 100% like how i did the layers and wondered if being brave and going a bit shorter is a good idea or a one way ticket to frumpsville, easy done for me, i need the style gurus!

I am not a mum and I have a bob, takes foreverrrrr to style. I used to have long hair but got it cut off about a year ago.

mimibunz · 27/04/2019 14:27

It’s my “News reader” cut! I will wash it Monday morning and get my natural frizz back. Dad jeans are awful. Some men just don’t have the arse shape for jeans. Flat and square, just like mine! 😂

PuppyMonkey · 27/04/2019 14:29

I’ve got a bob, but mine is edgy like Claire the sister off Fleabag (“I look like a pencil.”)Grin

I think curly/wavy bobs are a bit tricky tbh OP. They’d be v high maintenance imho going all crap looking, losing their bounce quickly, sticking up etc . I quite like my boring straight bob cos I can dry it quick/straighten and then I never have to do anything else to it, it just stays like that through wind, rain, hurricanes, zombie apocalypse etc. I only wash it every two days and it works for me.

Can you have a shampoo and set every week or something instead?Wink

Whizzler · 27/04/2019 14:38

Curly bobs can go quite Tobleroney too. Beware the Toblerone head.

Funnyfarmer · 27/04/2019 14:39

I've been doing the cg method for 2 years now, it's improved my hair so much. I don't do all time consuming faff though, I've just cut out sulthates, too much drying alcohol (not cut it completely because some products I love contain a small amount and my hair takes forever to dry otherwise) I just co-wash, condition, detangle, rinse, cheap curl cream, cheap mousse, leave to naturally dry. Sleep in a silk hat, wake up shake it about and it's done. Wash about twice a week, don't have time to faff about, with plopping, casts and diffusers.
