Are super ga trainers ‘mumsy’?

Looking for some trainers that are a) good for wider feet and b) look nice with dresses for summer. Super ga pumps have caught my eye but I’m early 20s and didn’t know whether they are predominantly worn by more middle-aged women or seen as a bit on the ‘mumsy’ side (I know they are a fave of Kate Middleton apparently). I know it doesn’t really matter and we should wear whatever we want but I’m have a tough time choosing/finding some. TIA

They've been around forever I got my first pair over twenty years ago. They aren't fashionable and are pretty non offensive. I'm definitely middle aged at 48 and I no longer wear them.

Agreed, there's nothing wrong with them but they're not fashionable. Depends what look you're going for.

A few years ago they were the trainer worn by all the young,hip, London folk.
You won't see many of them wearing them now, fashion has moved on.
Personally I think they are a bit dated, but they are inoffensive. If you like them, buy them.
Vans seem to be more popular. I was at a work event and all the young staff, male and female were wearing Vans.

God, depends on what day of the week you post this question on MN isn’t it? When I asked on here if they were ok for a 35 year old to wear, are they fashionable, I was told they look really good, are comfy, people of all ages wear them. Are fashionable.

I wear mine because they’re comfortable and they match the clothes I wear. They’re great for the summer and for work and I’ve had loads of compliments with mine.

If you like them, wear them.

They are pretty non offensive. Ok, but nothing special really.

Now the platform vans are beautiful on the other hand!

I’m mid 30’s and a mum, I love them. They’re quite flattering and they’re comfortable. No idea how stylish they are but they aren’t exactly statement shoes so doubt anyone would look twice at them.

I am in the midst of a canvas shoe search too. I see Supergas on different age groups but Vans are favoured by the sixth form college here. See the classic white Converse too. Keds are really comfortable but not seen a pair on anyone but me! They have a slim silhouette and nice memory foam insoles so I tend to think sod it and wear them.

Seen a nice pair of Fred Perry canvas ones that look nice but they are a bit more pricey.

Thanks, I had just seen them mentioned for wider feet before. Have made another thread for general wide feet recommendations. It’s such a nightmare finding shoes!

I'm 39 and wouldn't wear them because, yes, I do think they're a bit 'Mumsy'.
I have Stan Smiths. I think they're much nicer.

I have Lacoste low cut sneakers. They're very comfortable.

I had my first pair of Superga’s more than 15 yrs ago as a 90s teen. I still wear them as in the summer particularly for holidays as I like a plain white canvas trainer, leather is too heavy. I also have Keds for the same purpose Keds are really comfortable but not seen a pair on anyone but me, go to a Florida retirement village, they love a Ked! 😁.

Vans have never looked right on me. I’ve gone off Stan Smiths as everyone was wearing them (this is what annoys me about fashion these days, in my youth the 15 yr olds dressed differently to the 40 yr olds & in terms of trainers you had different tribes, now all so samey).

What do you want the trainers for as I personally think leather & canvas do 2 different jobs?

I replaced my old vans with superga. Oh well, shows what I know. To me they’re pretty interchangeable.

So I have some and I noted they are wide. I live in a super child friendly area of London and all the mums have them... as people say they're not offensive but defo not the height of fashion...only amongst the mum crews!

Could be because mums are just normal women, though! Not trying to make a point btw, I’ve literally just had that idea while I was typing, trying to figure out why. I mean, you don’t see many mums wearing those fugly trainers from last year - because you can only really pull them off if you’re super young, which most mums aren’t (at least not for long).

I try to ignore the tribe thing. It takes too much time trying to be this or that, or trying not to be this or that. Just wear what you want. You’ll find that your natural style all added together probably doesn’t automatically make you look like this, that or the other.

if you want to be fashionable then you need a dad trainer, hiking trainer or hybrid sandal trainer.

I moved mine on. They just looked a bit round and clowny from above and were so low cut you could see my trainer socks. I'm 34 and wear all different brands but have really stuck to charcoal Converse this year.

Oh, meant to add that no one item looks a certain demographic to me but if you wear any canvas trainer with a Boden breton and skinnies like I do you will indeed resemble many of the mums I see out and about on my high street.

What!?! I am in Oz and nobody wears them, people often ask what the brand is, let alone being “mumsy” whatever that is. I absolutely love mine, they are fur lined and bright yellow. I’m 45!

I genuinely think we need to move away from this. The 'sporty' mum, the 'yummy' mum, all that crap. Do you like them? Have you tried them on? We need to stop giving a fuck about how someone else perceived is, and be confident in our choices for us, because we like them (or don't) and not because we perceive it will make us look a certain way. The 'mum' bob, the 'mum' cur- all this shite has to stop. Be you, and wear what you like. If they are comfy wear em. I don't wear them because I find them a bit uncomfortable. I have sketcher boat shoes- cause comfy. And I can guarantee that the look a certain way to some people. As someone else has said to me......Behold the field where I grow my fucks. As you can see- it's barren.....

Here's an idea: your mums and your grandmas were wearing trainers long before you did. If you don't want to dress like them - which I quite understand - why don't you think of something different to wear?
