Happy Birthday @Ella!!!

Hushistas getting themselves summer ready!
Laska2Meryls · 24/04/2019 11:09

And what with the DHs retiring, we will definitely need a 'retreat' weekend !!

justilou1 · 24/04/2019 11:10

@Laska, I have warned my husband that he had better discover a passion for golf or something when he retires, because if he thinks he’s going to hang around with me, he can think again. I would kill him if he gets under my feet, or shares his opinions on things with me. *shudders!!!

dontcallmelen · 24/04/2019 11:27

Laska you are more than welcome & it’s only 20mins by train into town😂
Just ikwym my Dh is soo bloomin noisy he never shuts up, he’s either talking or singing drives me nuts, I shall be encouraging plenty of outside interests.

SoyYo · 24/04/2019 13:07

Another pit stop. I’m hoping DH will have his hands full redecorating our house ready for sale plus he will be tasked with the massive job of decluttering our attic which contains 25 years of family life (we’ve been in the same house that long) so a bit of “Swedish death cleaning” 😱 ready to put the house on the market, hopefully sell and make the semi permanent move to Spain. Here’s hoping!

@ella the metro centre in Newcastle is huuuge so hope you pick up a fab birthday treat (or two!)

So...finally got feedback on that París job. My effort to sabotage myself worked! I came second, key reason for not coming first is that during the HR interview (I had 3 interviews in total) I did say i wasn’t so sure about relocating to Paris...so basically if I’d shown more enthusiasm about the move it would possibly have been mine. I’m not sorry tbh as I’ve learnt there was no relocating budget Hmm so would have been on my own expense and the salary increase wouldn’t have paid (after tax) for the cost of having to rent a tiny apartment there (2k Eu+ when we’re mortgage free already atm). So, no problem and saved face plus the promise of more interesting work to come on current global role. Had it been Barcelona as originally advertised I would have been the keenest of applicants Wink

At the weekend I had a little flutter with Gudrun, me old mad art teacher look designer Grin
Ordered the following (on 20% discount last weekend)
www.gudrunsjoden.com/en-gb/clothes/dresses-tunics-kaftans/product-84089-midnight-blue-m
Rather tempted by the red version too...this is my nod to the kimono trend and will be useful not just with clothes but also as a beach cover up.
It will also go with these trousers I ordered
www.gudrunsjoden.com/en-gb/clothes/trousers-leggings/product-84614-klein-blue-m
Now also tempted by the other colourful version to go with the red kimono...arghh I have a huge soft spot for Gudrun’s happy prints...

SoyYo · 24/04/2019 13:18

@never super impressed with your cycling too! I don’t think I could manage 15 miles!

@ellle sorry meant to add I’m glad you’re happy with the jumper 👍

@len hope you can get garden back to normal now trees have gone. I’ll join laska for a trip to London to get away from DH with too much time on their hands 😩 I’m also dreading him becoming all sprightly and wanting to do a lot at the weekend when all I want to do after a week’s hard work is “nada de nada”. I’ll pack him off to HD bike rallies I think 🤣

whiskyremorse · 24/04/2019 15:12

Happy birthday Ella! I enjoyed my 40th, I think it is a time that you can accept yourself for who you are and what you've achieved!
I have taken 2 bags of clothes to the charity shop and have a few ebay items hung up to photograph so I feel pretty pleased about my mini clear out!

Laska2Meryls · 24/04/2019 15:21

I’m also dreading him becoming all sprightly.. Yes, I am rather worried about that with my DH also Wink, Him being away all week does have its advantages in many 'departments' ... 🤣🤣

ooh Gudrun soy ,Like the kimonos esp ive often looked at the website but never actually c bought anything..

OK so 'decluttering' ....... it only works if you dont keep buying more , though, doesnt it? ...
So .. Hmm here is the striped T and another pair of Keiras that I caved and reordered on Monday night, glad I did because they fit better than the last pair, even though they were the same size..

I think I may keep them after all..the stripe T is lovely and quite long - its a bit tucked up in this photo.. Am def keeping that ..

Toast trousers not arrived here yet, the M&S ones went back just now, but I haven't yet decided on the pink bra .. I think I will keep it ..

Laska2Meryls · 24/04/2019 15:23

oops! here's the photo

Laska2Meryls · 24/04/2019 15:28

Bif off about the no relocation package soy £2k+ rental wiping out increase is just not feasible, but looks like you did the right thing and saved face...And well done . it sounds like it could well have been yours otherwise !

SoyYo · 24/04/2019 15:50

Love the Keira culottes @laska! They’re fab and I think worth the sale price. The T looks great too (rather jealous of people who can wear stripy T’s as they make me look all boob...I have a couple of old season breton tops which I was deluded into thinking would make me all French chic but the opposite is true so I reckon I should put in a charity bag soon).
LOL at DH becoming sprightly Grin

I also caved in and did a last minute sale buy. A round neck linen black t top with tiny black stars embroidered on it (no longer on web/old season stock) and the S which was all they had left in stock fits great. It’ll be a useful top for work as it’s a bit smarter than the usual Hush T’s...

SoyYo · 24/04/2019 15:55

Yes I was a bit Hmm about the relocation lark. The VP whose vacancy it was used to be my boss and I really admire her for her steely work ethic but in a politically correct way she inferred today I was better off not taking it as I would have been worse off (so the salary wouldn’t have compensated for the additional rental cost), in the current role I can work from anywhere as long as I can get to París (and they reimburse my travel expenses) so a no brainer in the end.
Only slight regret is that the job was super interesting but not at any cost, at the end of my working life...

SoyYo · 24/04/2019 16:02

Well done @whisky on the mini clearout. You’re all inspiring me to make a start this weekend...
And yes 40 is a fabulous age!

justilou1 · 24/04/2019 16:06

Glad you're happy with the decision, @Soy - Imagine if you'd taken it and been locked in and something came up later in Barcelona and you were locked in? Who knows what's around the corner.....?

@Cherries... You're looking healthy and glamorous - and very slim! Nice to see you out and about!

I'm off to bed. Another public holiday tomorrow and I'm doing assignments with kids under my feet. Had just gotten the little gnomes back to school yesterday and they have a day off tomorrow. Wonder why they bothered with this week at all.....

Sigh!

twosoups1972 · 24/04/2019 16:06

Thanks for the bra info laska I will pass onto dd1 who hates underwired and/or fussy bras. VW tribute is 18th May in Bury. I am soooo excited! I was planning a trip to Bury anyway to see the exhibition they have on her at Bury Art Gallery, now I will combine the two. Have booked a Premier Inn for myself!

twosoups1972 · 24/04/2019 16:09

laska I salute you with all the decluttering you have been doing! I do try and declutter but every time I open my wardrobe I don't know what to chuck out. I worry I'll regret it afterwards and want to wear it again.

cherries great pic, you look fab Smile

ella Happy Birthday! Hope you have a great day and getting excited for Rome Smile

twosoups1972 · 24/04/2019 16:18

Soy you made me laugh about not wanting to do things at the weekend. We have the same issue in our house except the other way round - dh works long hours and wants to chill at home at the weekend. I, on the other hand, only work very part time and want to go out and do 'stuff' at the weekend. Dh is happy to go out if food is involved Grin and we usually go to the cinema on Saturday evenings....but he doesn't see the point of going out for the sake of it. And I suppose from my perspective, I am mourning the fact that the dds no longer want to go the park/farm/zoo any more I loved taking them out outings when they were little. But children grow up, in a few years it will be a new chapter in our lives.

twosoups1972 · 24/04/2019 16:19

Oh and well done on the job front Soy nice to know you could have had it if you wanted it. And thank you for the curly girl hairdressers list you sent me. It looks like the one I had originally booked is the nearest to me (and cheapest!) so I will book up an appointment with her when I can get it. I've noticed that dd's hair is getting really long! I wonder if the condition is better since we've started CG.

twosoups1972 · 24/04/2019 16:25

Interesting reading about all these dhs retiring!

My dh is 8.5 year older than me, he's 55 and will probably carry on working till 65ish. But I imagine I will work full time then or at least more than I currently do. I'm not sure how I feel about having the tables turned - me kissing HIM goodbye every morning and heading off to work while he's at home Hmm

ilovecherries · 24/04/2019 16:39

Well done on the cycling, never. I miss my bike, haven’t been able to cycle since my accident(wasn’t bike related!), and still can’t even sit on a stationary bike.

laska apparently I have that exact outfit waiting for me in my recycling bin when I get home :)

soy, glad you feeli ts a good outcome.

And Victoria Wood - such talent. I saw her in Glasgow maybe 20+ years ago, and have rarely laughed so much.

Hi @soups glad the CG method is working for DD yes it’ll make her hair much easier to handle and in better condition, and you’ve got the CG hairdresser list now for future reference (reminds me to book my next appointment now, I don’t need another trim till July but if I don’t book in advance I end up like the wicked witch with mad curly hair and no hairdresser appointments)

My DH is 5 years older than me, just turned 62 but he’s truly fed up with work and since we need to sell the house to do our final move then it’s better he’s here to do All those jobs to get it done or it will never ever happen...I’ve been the main breadwinner since we swapped jobs and we moved to NL with my job 20 years ago so financially it makes sense for us too. It’s just changing the dynamics of having him around all the time that will be different. But we do get on well, so I’m sure we’ll find a new good balance in months to come (as long as there’s not too much sprightliness and boundless energy at weekends Grin)

SoyYo · 24/04/2019 16:44

We didn’t swap jobs 🤦🏻‍♀️20 years ago but swapped roles as our DC were very small and I went from pt to ft work and he did the opposite.
Then we swapped roles again on return to U.K.
Then when kids got to teens we both worked ft for a while but in the last few years DH went back to 3 days a week till he stops for good next month.
It’s good cause we know how to walk in each other’s shoes

Laska2Meryls · 24/04/2019 18:10

My DH is a Toyboy!! (3 years younger) .. We met at uni as mature students in 1993 ( both with a DC each)and started seeing each other in 1994 ( realised it is 25years , because I have just been listening to the anniversary stuff on the release of 'Parklife' on the radio).. However we were 13 years together before we got married (well, we didn't want to rush into anything.. Grin) .

Apart from the 3 years of uni, we have both worked f/t, but me on South coast and him in Watford where he is from (and his Dd lives).. , So yes, I suppose if I was good at maths I could work out how many days we have actually spent in each others company but its been every weekend and all holidays , with and without kids.. , so its been a long-term, long-distance relationship if ever there was one .. Grin

So yes.. now we are about to commence full-time living together .. How will we manage ? I do imagine he is just as apprehensive as I am under neath it all . However we are both independent types and can take ourselves off without needing to involve the other , and we have actually had a serious argument in that whole time ..

Interesting times!!

Cherries cant wait to see you in the 'outfit' I bet o it wil look great on you now you are tiny and wee up top !!

Laska2Meryls · 24/04/2019 18:13

I am p/t now though, 3 days a week...

whiskyremorse · 24/04/2019 18:13

@soups I did the 'take everything out of your wardrobe, check for condition then put back what is tidy and fits' thing a few months ago. I put all the hangers in back to front and then when I wore things and put them back I turned the hanger around. This helped with a second cull of things I wasn't wearing (not weather or season related, just stuff I thought I should wear but obviously don't get around to.)
I think a system like that helps start you off.
