About the “what I am wearing today” thread

Just been reading through it and now I feel you like I need to try harder! Or maybe it’s just that things sound better written down...

OP posts:
waitingforseagulls · 12/04/2019 07:39

Things sound better written down. That thread is useless without photos.

Same reason there are so may conflicting opinions across this entire board, clothes are just items of fabric. What makes something look good on one person and not another is styling, body shape, hair style, colour, tone, the whole outfit....

Just google sweatshirt and leggings for an array of different looks from the glamorous to the scruffy.

Drogosnextwife · 12/04/2019 07:47

Just sounds better written down, definitely. Today I'm wearing dark grey leggings and a light grey hoodie (comfy and what I prefer to work in now as a childminder).

Elllllle · 12/04/2019 07:55

I totally agree, I just scroll through that thread to see if there are any photos! I like to see clothes on all figures etc, gives a better idea of colour and shape and styling than the pics they have on models (and why I rarely buy online these days unless there are reviews!)

TruffleShuffles · 12/04/2019 08:53

Things definitely sound much better written down. I used to follow a similar thread on another forum and would think some users sounded so stylish and then they would finally add a picture and their looks were massively disappointing.

I think it’s also because when you imagine what people describe you picture it in a way you find stylish and in a way to fit your style but when you see it in someone else’s idea it just doesn’t work for you.

Usuallyinthemiddle · 12/04/2019 08:56

I'm in beautifilly soft yoga pants and a bat wing lightweight sweater.

The pants are actually pj bottoms in mauve and the jumper is bright red and bobbled and was trolley trash from Tesco! But I won't tell you that bit.
(Not going out like this, I'm cleaning!)

BlueMerchant · 12/04/2019 09:00

Today I'm wearing
Grey Primark leggings
Black H&M fitted t-shirt
My DKNY black hoody.
My grey TU Sainsburys fitness shoes.
( I'm not fit- just having an easy comfy day)

EngagedAgain · 12/04/2019 09:08

Yes, I find the thread much more interesting with pics. The latest one hasn't been very good.

ilovecherries · 12/04/2019 09:10

I love real life, non-instagrammed photos (even with heads chopped off). It’s great to see how things really look and I tend to get more realistic styling ideas, as people have styled them for their life, and not for a photo.

UCOinanOCG · 12/04/2019 09:18

Yeah maybe a more honest thread is needed.

I am wearing a pair of White `Stuff denim leggings and a grey roll neck from Phase Eight.

I will team this with a pair of Scarpa walking trainers and a wax jacket.

I will accessorise with a Labrador and some mud.

BusterGonad · 12/04/2019 09:24

I find threads like that a bit bullshit tbh. Anyone can sound trendy/cool/alternative with a description, but stick a photo on there and I bet they all look like any other person you pass on your way to work/school run etc.

Acunningruse · 12/04/2019 09:30

That thread gives me a huge inferiority complex! But remember the people likely to post on such a thread will be people who are very into fashion/style. I think I look presentable but as most of my clothes are from Sainsbury's/May Alan/H&M/primark and I've had most of them for a year or more I never post on those threads.

Usuallyinthemiddle · 12/04/2019 09:34

They could be telling you anything! They might be telling about their Hush skirt and cashmere sweater and own none of it! I'm accessorising my jamas and jumper combo with slightly dirty hair and my outside slippers!

BusterGonad · 12/04/2019 09:40

I'm wearing an Etam shorts and camisole with a lace trim and bows, made of super soft jersey.
In reality I am but it's bobbled, I'm bra less and my boobs are large so make of that what you will. To be fair my legs are actually freshly shaved but normally I have a weeks growth. The vest is strappy and in reality does my arms no favours and the waist band isn't so good on my tummy. But it's damn comfy and I have to wear something to bed with a 10yo that likes to jump in my bed at night!

SparrowBo · 12/04/2019 09:55

What's with all the brand checking too. I agree.

BusterGonad · 12/04/2019 09:59

You've got to chuck a brand in Sparrow the pricier the better! Grin

YesQueen · 12/04/2019 10:00

I post brands because I find it helpful - if someone posts something and I think oh that sounds nice, I can go and nosy (whether it be Armani or Asda!)

People won't want to post photos as they get lifted and dragged over reddit so it's tricky

BarbieJellyBabyBrain · 12/04/2019 10:25

Yes, it's definitely about how it's written down!

Elllllle · 12/04/2019 10:30

@YesQueen what exactly happens on reddit? Agree bt4ands are helpful/interesting, otherwise it's just "cigarette trousers and blouse"

Elllllle · 12/04/2019 10:31

Bt4ands = brands

MadameDD · 12/04/2019 10:34

Today I'm wearing a Tu caravans nightshirt, pink with white diamond shapes on it dressing gown, old TU grey and pink striped soft mules as WFH today and need to get up and showered soon.

Only me and DD at home today so she is also in PJs.

when I do finally get up I'll be wearing Jo Jo Maman Bebe maternity leggings even though I'm not that pregnant but they're super comfy, a H&M maternity long top with sleeves and a long shirt dress but open. plus maternity bra as boobs have grown.

millythepink · 12/04/2019 10:41

Because this is Style&Beauty it's not so far fetched that most posters will make an effort with their appearance.

At the moment I'm wearing a white fluffy dressing, accessorised with a mug of coffee. Had a pedicure yesterday so I'm admiring my pretty feet.

Later, I will be wearing Top Shop Baxter jeans in dark wash, slouchy black cashmere sweater with big roll neck and flat black suede sling backs from Next. Debating whether to add large silver hoop earrings. This is a very standard off duty outfit for me.

grincheux · 12/04/2019 10:48

Snap @millythepink - I have yet to emerge from my spotty dressing gown! Don't worry OP, we're not all super stylish all the time Smile

Hazeintheclouds · 12/04/2019 10:48

Photographs are better for this sort of thread. Otherwise, people might not bother with lists. They are a bit tedious.

MadameDD · 12/04/2019 10:50

waitingforseagulls agreed re styling.

I've worn in the past dresses at work - work dresses from Mango and had a Director think they were more expensive.

Have also worn sweatshirt/leggings combos from H&M which a friend assumed was a nicer sweatshirt than it was.

I do like to put thought and care into what I wear and how I wear it. I like patterns and love dresses though too. I also love vintage.

tierraJ · 12/04/2019 10:50

I post on that thread & im honest. If I'm in my boring work uniform I say so!
