Will Kate emerge from her Norfolk seclusion sporting a bigger than ever Alice band? Will the Mail and Express stories about Meghan get more ludicrous by the day? And will this thread see the arrival of Baby Sussex? All will be revealed in due course...

Harry and Meghan will have to decide if they want to be celebs or royalty

If they moved to the US . They would need a fortune For them to live the same level they are accustomed to here.
Don’t think they would want to start paying.

QueenOfTheAndals · 11/04/2019 16:38

He inherited a massive fortune from Diana, I think they'd be okay!

queen it won’t be enough Smile . We are talking homes, private jets, security staff, household staff ,and PR staff on top of other expenses. Unless they befriend big media names like David Geffen, then it will be a huge downgrade for them.

peachgreen · 11/04/2019 16:57

@frugalkitty I just bought almost those exact trousers so I'm feeling very fashion-forward right now. Grin

I think it's completely fair enough that H & M want to keep the birth plans private. Meghan is criticised for everything she does - this is something precious and I'm unsurprised they want to keep it to themselves. I'm sure we'll find out about the birth soon enough.

ajandjjmum · 11/04/2019 17:02

I think that Diana left around £15 million - £7.5 million plus what's in Meghan's pot would not keep them in the style to which they've become accustomed.

polarpig · 11/04/2019 17:03

It'll be a lot more now if it has been wisely invested.

QueenOfTheAndals · 11/04/2019 17:06

Plus if they want private jets then they have friends who'd lend them one! Plus money to be earned from other ventures like TV, chat shows etc.

And Harry got a lot from the Queen Mum didn't he?

mumsiedarlingrevolta · 11/04/2019 17:13

I am Meghan's new neighbour well I am not on her side of the well guarded fence I am on the peasant side but close enough
and there was a lot of activity today-lots of paparazzi -much more than usual-and you could see lots of Range Rovers (security) at the house and lots more comings and goings.
The surrounding security presence has also been stepped up...
I was wondering if she went in to labour this morning...

LillianGish · 11/04/2019 17:33

It's very strange to make an announcement about a non-announcement if there is nothing to announce. I think she's already had it and they are covering themselves for when the complaints roll in that it wasn't announced straightaway. Is it that by not making an announcement they are trying to ramp up interest to build up their Instagram following? All it serves to do is to increase the the ludicrous surrogacy speculation etc etc

QueenOfTheAndals · 11/04/2019 17:39

They're only saying they're keeping the birth plans private. They'll probably announce it on the day of the birth in the traditional way - Buckingham Palace gates and Twitter!

I think this is all part of Harry's contempt for the press. It's a bad move because they are reliant on goodwill. If they don't behave like royalty they can't expect the privileges.

No one needs to see a steps picture but not announcing on the day is mean-spirited.

HopeOverAnythingElse · 11/04/2019 18:07

How are they reliant on goodwill? They're bankrolled by their family. They're enshrined in the constitution, albeit an unwritten one. I doubt they give a single fuck if we approve of them or not.

QueenOfTheAndals · 11/04/2019 18:08

They haven't said they won't be announcing on the day though. And tbh if Harry is annoyed at the press after the way they treated both his mum and his wife then I can't really blame him!

Let’s hope Neggannwasnt at home with her feet up when the Loose coven Women were on earlier. They were of the mind of some here “we pay for them so we should have a live feed of the baby coming down the royal vagina”.

The notice doesn’t say there won’t be many things. But if I were to get, it’ll be an announcement like the Tindalls.

Megan can’t win if she does a Lindo steps shot, she’ll never “beat” Kate and Diana and she’ll be accused of rivalry if she tries.

TSSDNCOP · 11/04/2019 18:09

Let’s hope Megan wasn’t...,

katienana · 11/04/2019 18:11

I think baby is due around 1st May. So there could be another month to go if she goes overdue! I think its sensible to keep the arrangements private. how many women post on mumsnet about getting texts saying have you had it or relatives camping out in the waiting room. Imagine that pressure x1000 with media and crazed fans and maybe even haters nearby? I hope it all goes smoothly anyway.

strangerthongs · 11/04/2019 18:12

I think it's all very wierd and badly managed.

They can't have it both ways IMO. One minute they appear to enjoy the attention (Meghan in particular) then they want privacy.

Plus it appears very much to be a dig at Kate

I bet it will be some cheesy, professional photo, B&W, either Meghan in bed with baby or baby's foot or something like that. Nothing normal, relaxed, unstaged or family orientated at all.

I was (and still am) a huge Suits fan and was excited when they got together, but I'm liking them less and less.

Nothing wrong with wanting privacy whilst still undertaking royal duties but do it the Princess Anne way.

AnneEyhtMeyer · 11/04/2019 18:13

They are reliant on goodwill for the future of the monarchy and their continuing financial support. The money their family gives them comes from taxpayers.

The statement said "The Duke and Duchess look forward to sharing the exciting news with everyone once they have had an opportunity to celebrate privately as a new family" - how is that not saying they won't be announcing it on the day?

mrscampbellblackagain · 11/04/2019 18:23

Meghan has read too many threads on mn about not letting anyone near your newborn for weeks!

mrscampbellblackagain · 11/04/2019 18:24

Was chatting about royal family today with friends whilst children played and honestly, no one could see how it would continue with Charles, William and Harry.

Cel982 · 11/04/2019 18:28

The negative reaction to this is really bizarre Confused All they've said is that they won't be announcing the birth plans in advance, which I would interpret as not identifying the hospital or issuing a press release when Meghan goes into labour. Once they have had an opportunity to celebrate privately as a new family could mean anything from half an hour to two weeks, but I'd be pretty sure it'll happen quickly.

I'd imagine the reason they issued this statement today is because they're being inundated with press enquiries about it, and want to nip it in the bud.

CourageCalls · 11/04/2019 18:28

I don't think we are entitled to a photo or lots of details but considering Harry's position to the throne (unlikely but still possible) they should announce the birth. I am a Harry and Meghan fan and understand she has been relentlessly attacked in the press but this feels like a big up yours from them to the press and I believe it's a little shortsighted.

You can't court the media for your tv projects one minute and shut the door when you want privacy. They are totally within their right to become private citizens if they wish and renounce their HRH titles.

CurlyWurlyTwirly · 11/04/2019 18:28

@mumsiedarlingrevolta

Ooh excellent! We have eyes and ears on the ground. Please keep us updated
Lots of range rovers and security does not sound like a home birth.
I still think the C&W hospital.

@Queenof the Andals

What was H doing in Barking. Was it really today?

Notmyrealname855 · 11/04/2019 18:31

I wonder if Harry asked for this announcement having seen the crowds of paps outside their home, basically telling them to back off, much like he asked for respect when H&M first got together. But in both cases, as awful as that attention truly must be, the announcements are therefore directed at a tiny percentage of people and to the rest of us comes as an unexpected and jarring statement. The nasty minority seem to get to him, and the Sussex team make hasty statements in response.

The Sussex team has to stop responding using blanket statements like this to the paps/ trolls.

This statement seems rushed and in odd contrast to the Instagram posts thanking people for their well wishes.

The team need to better think out their statements. Eg it would be very understandable to say they won’t immediately announce, even that they want their DC to have an entirely private childhood, but not make these announcements in a last minute slap-dash way. They only have a few things to ever make statements on!
