Will Kate emerge from her Norfolk seclusion sporting a bigger than ever Alice band? Will the Mail and Express stories about Meghan get more ludicrous by the day? And will this thread see the arrival of Baby Sussex? All will be revealed in due course...

Llaregubb, I think that has been done in the last couple of years? I think so anyway.

Paradyning · 22/04/2019 09:41

Only Chaz could pull off Mickey Mouse wars and a slash of red lippy!

CoverYourEarsTeam · 22/04/2019 09:50

The thing is, the GG is the representative of the head of state in Commonwealth countries - the head of state being the monarch, in this case HMQ.
They have the power to dissolve parliament, sign laws into effectiveness, for instance. No knighthoods in Oz, or they would do those too.
In days gone by, it was commonly mid-ranking noble types or high-performing military officers, sent from Britain. These days, we do tend to prefer one of our own.

Re the bowing/not bowing - the video I saw showed Wills didn't bow to the Queen outside church yesterday either. Maybe he'd had a private meeting earlier? Wink

QueenOfTheAndals · 22/04/2019 09:55

I don't think it was ever seriously suggested that Harry become GG was it? We talked about it here but if a Mumsnet thread is being mistaken for real news then we're more influential than we think!

This is an Australian report of the UK Sunday Times story that suggested it was. I'm not sure how seriously, I guess we'll never know.

It does seem somewhat unlikely!

The initial PR stunt for the ‘younger’ royalscwas to label them as the Fab Four. That didn’t last long. IMO Meghan and Harry would have been the stars of that group which couldn’t be the case.

Personally I think giving ‘nicknames’ that highlight how great something is can backfire rapidly and fab could be replaced easily! I also suspect William as future king wants and needs to build up his image independently.

noseoftralee · 22/04/2019 10:23

you have a brand that looks very Duchess of Sunset Boulevard

Sounds like an epic name for TV show

QueenOfTheAndals · 22/04/2019 10:31

A royal themed reality show? You might be into something there @noseoftralee!

Wasn't there a show called I Want To Marry Harry at one point? IIRC it involved several women competing for the hand of a Harry lookalike.

I think they will need to shift the emphasis for the next monarchs from the mystical religious sacred anointing to the stability of having a head of state who is above party politics.

GrumbleBumble · 22/04/2019 10:56

If there are plans for H&M to be based abroad I'm pretty sure it will be because they want to, not some palace plot. Kate isn't throwing a dart at a map if the world and laughing at the result while cackling send them there! The suggestion up thread that it would leave them stuck in Africa for Christmas etc is ludicrous, however a remote a spot they settled in I'm pretty sure they would fly back to the UK for Christmas and big state occasions. It would be a base not a prison cell they would still travel frequently.

Japonicaflower2 · 22/04/2019 11:18

Remember, 20 years ago she was allegedly getting pelted by bread rolls in her local Waitrose how very middle class ) as people were convinced she was the evil Other Woman!
Actually I it was the local Co-op, not Waitrose 🙂
Ilike Camilla, I have met her several times over the years and she's always been friendly, humorous and down to earth.

Humpy84 · 22/04/2019 11:45

Agree @daisypie
@grumblebumble hilarious imagery
@queenoftheandals I remember, it was ridiculous but great

This thread is actually quite brilliant no matter what your opinion.

Article in the DM about lack of chemistry between Will and Harry. Where are the photos of them chatting ?

Kate looks stunning and so happy and carefree in latest pics. The dress coat is very Carole though. She looks so refreshed and like she’s had a good facial. I really don’t believe the rumours of an affair. It’s doubtful. I think what’s more likely is that she found out he had a thing with Rose before they got married. Interestingly there as a DM article back in 2016 about them being rivals.

yellowalstroemeria · 22/04/2019 11:53

The dress coat is very Carole though

I thought that. In one of the Hello pics she really resembles Carole, and I didn't think they were really alike until I saw it.

RE H&M off to Africa.... it does seem very 'colonial', for want of a better word, to set up residence in a grand house with staff and security. Plus the baby would be at school or nursery by then.

Paradyning · 22/04/2019 12:01

I agree yellow. I say that pic and thought it was Carol at first!

QueenOfTheAndals · 22/04/2019 12:48

If the Africa story is true then maybe it'll be a good base for them for a few years. I'm sure they'll have to return to the U.K. once Charles becomes king so that Harry can take on more duties.

All will be revealed in due course I suppose. Now, where's that baby???

OP posts:
Paradyning · 22/04/2019 13:12

Can't believe baby has outlasted another thread!

HopeMatters · 22/04/2019 13:15

I like the H&M in Africa idea. It seems like a life they might enjoy. I mean, the goldfish bowl of English country life (massive snooze) or a privileged existence in some of the most beautiful places on earth?

Tough one Grin

queenofarles · 22/04/2019 13:22

There is a picture of Kate , Mike and Harry chatting and laughing, William just looked Amused. I actually though it was like they are trying to reaching out to one another , but being the older, William just doesn’t want to back down, they are brothers after all. Really wish they could workout thier differences.

If they move temperarly to Africa where to ? Botswana? south Africa?
I haven’t been to Botswana but I’ve been to Cape Town and would happily move there for few years, perhaps get a house at western Cape, Constantia or Camps bay. Schools and nurseries are excellent there, glorious weather all year long and it’s just an absolutely beautiful place to live in.
I’m a bit Envy

SenecaFalls · 22/04/2019 13:29

There was a piece about the Africa suggestion on CNN last night (along with the non-appearance on the hospital steps plan). The royal expert they brought on to discuss (whose name escapes me) likened it to the couple of years of relative privacy that the Queen (before she was queen) and the DofE had in Malta and that William and Catherine had in Anglesey. Looking at it from that perspective, it seems like a possibility that might be welcomed by Harry and Meghan.

TracyBeakerSoYeah · 22/04/2019 13:31

Not sure if H&M would go & live in South Africa considering the crime rate etc.

queenofarles · 22/04/2019 13:36

It’s no more dangerous than London tbh,I’ve been there couple of times.
Besides I doubt they would stay at places with high rate crimes .
Many parts of Weatern Cape are quite safe.

strangerthongs · 22/04/2019 13:40

where has the africa theory come from anyway?

Autumn Phillips looked lovely I thought

TracyBeakerSoYeah · 22/04/2019 13:42

I'm just going on what friends told me when they moved back after spending years living there.
It does look a beautiful country though.

user1457017537 · 22/04/2019 13:52

I can’t see MM wanting to be parked in South Africa or anywhere else for that matter. It won’t happen.

Butterymuffin · 22/04/2019 14:01

I can see how it's a possibility but they've only just moved to Frogmore and they're about to have the massive upheaval of becoming parents, so I don't see it happening any time very soon. I think it's made the headlines because there is a Sussex news vacuum while we wait for baby news (come on Meghan, we're all rooting for you to have baby arrive safely asap!)
