Clothes from ‘And Other Stories”?

Are they worth the money?

I’ve been looking at the website and I love the style but it’s quite pricey. There isn’t a store near me so I will have to order online.
Do others rate them? And how do the sizes come up?

Very niche question but I have a long body and many high waisted trousers pull at my crotch as they are too short. Any tall people able to comment on whether this brand caters for long or short bodies?

Like any store it's hit or miss really. I love their shoes and seem to buy at least 1 pair a season. But with clothes I haven't kept all the ones I've ordered online. I find they cut for very tall people - I have no dresses or trousers from them even though I'm 5'6. I also have a long body, but my legs are short so trousers definitely wouldn't work. Tops are good though. Also, delivery is £7 unless you order over £120 worth. I have a delivery of 2 skirts and a top coming later so I'll report back!

Meshpregnancy · 01/04/2019 10:04

Thanks. It’s actually cheering to hear they might be cut for the tall as I am 5’11’’. The delivery charge is expensive but I’m still tempted.

Love their coats have a couple and have a couple of incredible party dresses but the sizes are variable. Also lengths are very long (good for you). I always get compliments when I wear them.

ZaraW · 01/04/2019 10:19

I found their knitwear to be poor quality.

Judystilldreamsofhorses · 01/04/2019 10:52

I like their knitwear, never had any problems with it, plus t-shirts, but have never been able to get the sizing right on skirts/trousers. They usually do a discount for newsletter sign up.

EachandEveryone · 01/04/2019 10:55

No good if you have boobs

championquartz · 01/04/2019 10:59

I've bought a few bits. I quite like their silk shirts.
Knitwear I find more difficult - the fit is often wrong for me. I do have 2 sweaters and I love them both.

Dresses - I like their designs but the annoying thing is they are very fond of viscose which I hate. Having said that, I have a few dresses and they have washed well and lasted.
Tops - they've worn well too. Just know it's MMF heavy.
Trousers - haven't bought so I can't say.

Sizing - varies/inconsistent. Best guess really.

The delivery charge is a pain.

SlipperOrchid · 01/04/2019 11:00

I buy a lot from here, mostly online. The trousers are for taller people for sure.

It is a fast fashion shop. The clothes are cheaply made ie pockets are few and far between, wrap style dresses use the minimum amount of material, instead of making nice dress belts they often use a thin piece of material, most garments are unlined, the knitwear can be very boxy, coats are often cocoon shape which is one of the cheapest patterns to use to make coats and quality is poor overall but..., occasionally they have some really nice clothes. It is hit and miss but it’s still one of my go to shops.

Floisme · 01/04/2019 11:13

I've bought the odd thing online in the past and been reasonably happy but I visited a real shop the other week and seeing it all laid out was very disappointing. Most of it looked cheap and pretty shoddy. I'd just come from Cos - same company, reasonably similar prices - and I thought the contrast was startling.

SlipperOrchid · 01/04/2019 11:33

Flous is right. The prices are nearer Cos but the quality is on a par with H&M.

IMO they are aiming for the twenty/thirty something, disposable income, fast fashion, slim, on trend market Their shoes selection particularly highlight this. Cos is better for good quality staples, is more forgiving on the less perfect figures. Half of my wardrobe is from there! But when I walk happily away from Cos and go into Other Stories, I feel twenty years older....... and suddenly rather trumpy.

Meshpregnancy · 01/04/2019 12:04

Oh dear. I have some nice bits from Cos but the Cos dresses are often shapeless and the trousers have short bodies so I can’t sit down in them without castrating myself!

Where is good for nice, flattering, well made dresses for a 40 something who wants to look nice but can’t afford loads so needs staples that can be dressed up and down? The Other Stories wrapped dresses looked like they fitted the bill but it sounds like they won’t be good quality.

SlipperOrchid · 01/04/2019 12:42

Try Arket! They are so much better quality.

Blarblarblar · 01/04/2019 12:44

I find Cos a bit frumpy (also in my 40s) but have a few basic items that have lasted really well.
How about Reiss? I can’t afford to buy full price but have some gorgeous really well cut trousers and work skirts from the sale. Also Whistles have some nice bits, not as good as they used to be but again in the sale you can pic up a lovely wee bargain.

crosspelican · 01/04/2019 12:47

I really like it. More affordable than Whistles, and while not as good quality (being half the price...) I can get really nice dresses in particular there, which has helped get me out of my jeans rut!

Loopytiles · 01/04/2019 12:48

They do have decent sales.

Babymamamama · 01/04/2019 12:49

I've been in a few times. The hand creams are ok. But unfortunately their clothes are a sea of polyester which is a no no for me.

mumsiedarlingrevolta · 01/04/2019 12:53

This thread is kind of freaking me out.

I have never ever heard of And Other Stories and just clicked on a link of a shoe which took me to their website.
I then clicked on mumsnet and found this thread.
I feel like my laptop has got a mind of it's own.
Or big brother is running mumsnet

SlipperOrchid · 01/04/2019 13:32

I would t discount Other Stories dresses entirely. I have some in jersey material that are quite weighted and I feel great in them. I have returned more than I have kept but I always go back!

MrsMaisel · 01/04/2019 13:39

And Other Stories and COS and Arket are all H&M brands.

SlipperOrchid · 01/04/2019 14:15

MrsMaisel Yes everyone know and that is why people are making quality and style comparisons.

MaryLennoxsScowl · 01/04/2019 14:40

I like them. I find everything extremely long, but I’m short! I haven’t tried trousers from there though. I agree with the poster who says they’re not cut for boobs - I’d go a size up if you’re busty.
Viscose isn’t the same as polyester, it is made from natural fibres - albeit treated in an unnatural way - and I find it more breathable than polyester. I like the style of And Other Stories stuff, it’s a million times nicer than H&M - more sophisticated and cooler. I can’t speak for Cos as don’t have one nearby and the only things I ever ordered online were disappointing - cotton jumper that got a hole in almost immediately and some very baggy tops. I haven’t tried Arket either.

StarkintheSouth · 01/04/2019 14:44

I'm a fan of other stories! Love it, really like the jewelry too. The quality is marginally better than H&M but the style is right up my street :)

MaryLennoxsScowl · 01/04/2019 14:46

I think it depends on your usual shops. I’m used to the lower end of high street such as H&M, Zara, Topshop, New Look, and as such I find the material and quality in Stories to be great. But I’ve also started branching out into Whistles and Toast (only in the sales!) and they are definitely better at knitwear - but also vastly more expensive. But you’d never get merino wool jumpers in H&M, it’s acrylic only in there. Hmm

RikoBitch · 01/04/2019 15:34

I like them and so far I've found the quality good. I'm almost 50 and not looking any longer for super trendy items.

My only issue with them is their clothes are cut for women who are 20cm taller than me. I'm 165cm (5 foot 5")

CatherineMaitland · 01/04/2019 17:57

It's like any shop really - some of it is tat, some of it is good. I have a couple of fine, slim knit things that I really like, a bag and some jewellery. I had to size up about 3 sizes to get a wrap dress on over my chest and hips, which made it look a bit odd, but most of their dresses aren't my style anyway.

I know, not very helpful. But true.
