Facial sunscreen recommendations please?

I need to get some decent sunscreen to wear, I also use moisturiser, primer and foundation. Does it go on under or over moisturiser?

I think I need one with a star rating for it to be effective? I've seen LRP recommended but it doesn't have a star rating, so is it not effective?

I used LRP which I like but I've been using the body shop spf50 sunscreen. It's cheaper for one thing but I find it absorbs quickly, I usually stock up when they have an offer on.

I personally use it after moisturiser but before primer/any makeup products although I find I can use it over makeup if I need to reapply (I do powder after but I'm oily skinned). My husband has been using it and uses it instead of moisturiser and it's been fine for him.

Regarding the star rating, I'm not sure about that, I just make sure it's uva and uvb (are they the right ones? Can't remember off the top of my head).

I’ve just bought a great (and very cheap) Q10 one from Asda, it’s their own brand, spf 50, and cost £2.50!

I use Heliocare cream and have also used LRP - both I put on over moisturiser but under make-up.

I would second the body shop SPF 50 one, very light so will go with other ‘stuff’
Was on 3 for 2 when I went in today Smile

I use a moisturiser then sun cream then foundation. Was in boots yesterday and young assistant told me, at no7 to not put sun cream under a SPF foundation because the SPF in the foundation is enough, its the first time I have heard this, she said it's what she is told in training, I told her my foundation does not last long , she said that is why because of the suncream.

I've been using the Biore Aqua Rich one for everyday, for a few years now. It's the only one that my skin can tolerate day in, day out and it's lovely and light under makeup. If I'm on holiday and not much makeup I wear La Roche Posay, I feel like it has better staying power and more stable sun protection than Biore but that may be my imagination. Sadly Heliocare makes me break out, I really wanted to love it but not for me.

lindyloo57 The SPF in foundation is definitely not good enough to be sun protection in its own right, according to my dermatologist. If you want your foundation to stay on longer over sunscreen, just dust a tiny bit of translucent loose powder on your skin before applying foundation.

Most foundations only offer 15-20 SPF but I want a 50 so have to wear separate sunscreen

I like both the Biore and Body Shop ones mentioned but the BS makes my eyes sting if I sweat. Neither are moisturising but they are very light.

I've ordered heliocare oil free. Hoping it's good. Found biore watery essence a bit drying.

I use LRP spray & I've never had any problems. Did try the Murad one once which was amazing, no piling with make up & gets great reviews from Sali Hughes. I'll be trying that next.

Would you recommend these for wearing on holiday when in the sun all day? I've previously used La Roche Posay but found it a bit greasy for my already oily skin and always worry about lighter formulas

I use Frezyderm which is spf50 and a primer as well. Love it.

I'm astonished a Boots trained employee could come out with such rubbish tbh. Just think for a start how much sunscreen you apply and where, compared to foundation! Unless you trowel it on, but even then it's not a strong enough spf.

I got a sample of Kiehls ultra light spf 50 and I loved it it absorbed easily was really light and it stayed under my foundation. (Charlotte tilbury) so I have ordered a tube

I always put moisturiser on first, then heliocare. It doesn't go on well otherwise, but it's really effective sun protection and makeup sits nicely under it.

Due to familial predisposition to skin cancer, I wear factor 50 every single day, and it's fine for me. But on holiday, my face is never in the sun, and when I go in the water I reapply instantly when I get out.

I use LRP but was given a bodyshop one and it's lovely, cheaper too! Nice mat finish. I use it as a moisturiser before my foundation.
