Thanks Curly - that was brilliant. So poignant when you know what was really going on and how it would end.

Glower · 29/03/2019 20:47

Just posting this picture of Kate in a den yesterday Smile she really shines on outdoors engagements with children, doesn’t she?

Does she have any events next week? I’m feeling starved of royal style since yesterday’s casual look wasn’t much to discuss!

The footage of William and Harry as young children at the start of Curly’s video is so sweet but it’s hard to imagine ever seeing that kind of access with the Cambridges and children now

queenofarles · 29/03/2019 23:25

Video number 1 ,

For a brief moment from minute 3.50-4.00, it was like hearing and looking at Kiera Knightly Confused

CurlyWurlyTwirly · 30/03/2019 04:24

I agree William and Harry were incredibly exposed to the media like no other royal children before, or since.
Basically their childhood was not private at all, no wonder William Guards his and his children’s privacy so fiercely.

I do think if Meghan gives birth whilst the whole country is distracted by Brexit, she should whisk the baby away and just release some photos. All we see is a blanket and a bit of a tiny head. The rest is just the worlds media dissecting a post partum mother.
They have the perfect opportunity to set the tone on protecting their child’s privacy.

CurlyWurlyTwirly · 30/03/2019 04:29

Yes the accent is so old fashioned.
Video 1 7’30” Charles is talking about the Rats in Toxteth. He actually said Riots Confused

The poshest accent of the current generation of Royals is actually Kate

CurlyWurlyTwirly · 30/03/2019 04:38

Diana was so constrained in her marriage. Also at the end of video 1, she was talking about trying to support her husband and be a good wife and mother. Then in the visit to the hospice she was brilliant and natural.
Could also see the flashes of Keira Knightly!

QueenOfTheAndals · 30/03/2019 06:51

I don't think Kate sounds that upper class. She's well-spoken but her accent is more like she's trying to sound posh, Diana's was effortless as that's how she always spoke.

I can't see H&M not doing a steps photo call. It worked for W&K - a wave and a smile and then we've barely seen the children since and the paparazzi leave them alone.

Hearing the Queen speak in the fifties and sixties makes me cringe. That's the way people spoke who were upper class, all the BBC presenters etc. It's hard to believe it was such a relatively short time ago.
I think Kate sounds affected - she's trying too hard to sound posh. Diana sounded completely natural and it would be the way all her friends and her class spoke too.

Wonnacott35 · 30/03/2019 07:08

I wondered about the 'rats'

TipseyTorvey · 30/03/2019 07:10

Checking in as have been away but on the photo on the steps piece I wonder what they'll accuse Meghan of doing wrong then. I have been a bit shocked as just how bad the coverage is of her because I was happily getting all my news from this thread but I've been walking past newsstands daily this past week and it's non stop.

QueenOfTheAndals · 30/03/2019 07:28

@TipseyTorvey I'm guessing they'll criticise her for wearing a custom-made dress, heels, makeup and having her hair done. All things Kate did of course!

Kate has a new stylist dm link

Virginia Chadwyck-Healey

And there’s me thinking it was us!

CurlyWurlyTwirly · 30/03/2019 07:46

I didn’t realise there was still press about Meghan ( I’m not in the uk and never buy newspapers)
I only glance at the DM honestly just for the pictures.
I naively thought Meghan was finally having some respite because of Brexit and thought she could quietly have the baby.
By posing on the steps of the Lindo wing, she is unfortunately handing the press “comparison stories with Kate” on a plate.

QueenOfTheAndals · 30/03/2019 07:47

Well she might be one of us, we'll never know!!

QueenOfTheAndals · 30/03/2019 07:53

Tbh I've not seen much press about her except that Richard Kay article which hinted at things. It was a rather odd article as there's been worse things written about the royals to which they've not responded yet this article very much seemed like fire fighting. So much for never complain, never explain!

OP posts:
CurlyWurlyTwirly · 30/03/2019 08:04

What Richard Kay article?
Was that the one about Kate and the Marchioness of Cholmondeley?

(Can’t remember how H&M were slipped in....)

QueenOfTheAndals · 30/03/2019 08:10

Yes that one, he put a few unnecessary digs in towards H&M. The article smacked of the palace being behind it, much like when Meghan's friends went to the press to say nice things about her. Apparently legal action was considered, which is a strange thing to say about a piece that was ostensibly about two people falling out with each other. The story seems to have died down now, maybe because of said threat of action.

Kate's new stylist, a former Vogue editor looks to be a similar shape, she is tall and willowy.

QueenOfTheAndals · 30/03/2019 08:36

I definitely prefer Kate's more recent outfits, obviously she has to dial it down when she's accompanying HM (though HM wasn't afraid of fashion in her day) but the sleeker looks really suits her.

Looking forward to seeing Meghan's post-baby style too. She didn't really have much time to establish a look after her marriage as she got pregnant so quickly and had to contend with an expanding figure. But I've not seen a pregnant woman look so radiant and glowing since Catherine Zeta Jones won the Oscar at about 8 months!

I think Meghan will probably continue down the vintage route.
She seems to use a lot of the boutiques Amal Clooney uses.
I think we’ll still see the California Meghan in her down time; same as Breton / Zara Kate

CurlyWurlyTwirly · 30/03/2019 08:51

King Abdullah was receiving the Lamp of Peace. I’m assuming it’s a Middle Eastern peace prize

These rumours abut William seem to be continuing - does anyone else read Blind Gossip? Today's is a corker - I can't believe for one moment that it's true.

CurlyWurlyTwirly · 30/03/2019 09:04

Just read it. Absolute rubbish.
