Uniqlo Ultra Down Jacket - Ruined?

42 replies

SlinkyDinkyDoo · 14/03/2019 11:43

Just washed it in the machine on 30 degrees. Supposed to be handwash (didn't check the label, thought I'd washed it in the machine before- clearly not).

FFS.

The filing has gone into little balls. It can't be saved can it? Or can it?

Gutted.

I've now ordered some down wash and some wool tumble dryer balls so we shall see.

I've been meaning to get some of those balls anyway so even if it doesn't work I'll have only wasted a fiver on the down wash.

I've read varying results on Amazon. Some jackets are brought back to life, others not. Like life, it's a game of chance.

Just bung it in the dryer .. it will puff up !

SlinkyDinkyDoo · 15/03/2019 15:10

HALLELUJAH!!!

The tumble dryer balls have sorted it. Thank you everyone, you've saved me ££.

I soaked it again, wrung it out and put it on a low heat for about 2 hours giving it a good shake too every 15 minutes or so.

I do think thete has been a little bit of shrinkage but this may just be because it's newly washed. Hopefully it will give a bit.

All the effort was worth it. Hurrah for Mumsnet Star

This thread confirms that I need to spend £30 reluctantly to get my rab down jacket sent off and cleaned. Currently it's filthy as I'm waiting for weather to warm

gubbsywubbsy · 15/03/2019 15:19

I have a fab coat and it washed fine .. I wash it all the time but you must dry it straight away .

gubbsywubbsy · 15/03/2019 15:19

@CottonSock

That’s weird. I washed my (and Dh’s) uniqlo ultra light down gilet things according to the washing instructions and they’d were absolutely fine. I didn’t tumble them. I just dried them hung on hangers.

EntirelyAnonymised · 15/03/2019 15:26

Sorry for random ‘d

MsMightyTitanAndHerTroubadours · 15/03/2019 15:39

send it to me @cottonsock, I'll whip it in on the down wash for £20

gubbsywubbsy · 15/03/2019 16:42

@CottonSock I meant Rab not fab 😂

WinkysTeatowel · 15/03/2019 16:54

Good news Slinky the balls will also make your towels lovely and soft without fabric conditioner.

CottonSock · 15/03/2019 17:39

@gubbsywubbsy
Tell me more, no clumping. Easy to dry?

theredjellybean · 15/03/2019 17:43

Not buying a white one again

gubbsywubbsy · 15/03/2019 18:08
