This dress for a May wedding?

Just concerned that it's predominantly black. I'm the least stylish person I know - would light pink heels (to match the pink in the dress) work and would a matching pink shrug be totally OTT?

It's fine. Not great, but if it's not something you're not particularly bothered about it is fine.

Light pink heels and shrug are OK as long as they are a good quality. They'll either make the outfit look high end and classic, or kind of supermarket.

Tomtontom · 10/03/2019 19:36

(Ignore the second *not there!)

Katharsis · 10/03/2019 19:44

Really, supermarket? It's a silk Oasis dress and cost £65 - admittedly a couple of years ago... But I do want to make a good impression, haven't been to a wedding in so long - maybe I need to invest in a new dress!

It's a nice dress, nude/pink shoes would be nice, as would a pink shrug. At the end of the day, as a wedding guest, you want to feel nice but all eyes are (rightly) on the bride. Unless you wear something totally outlandish, no one will ever remember what you wore! Just dress up, have a lovely time.

shrumps · 10/03/2019 19:47

I thought that reply was a bit odd - not 'supermarket' at all. It's a lovely dress.

shakeapoo · 10/03/2019 19:50

I like it! Although I'm not into shrugs, I'd wear a kimono type thing over the top... I don't know if kimono is the right work, but similar. I have a few.

highlandteajenny · 10/03/2019 19:55

I went to a few weddings last year and your dress/shrug combination would have looked fine at any of them (there was a good mix of church/hotels/budget/costly weddings!).

I'm aiming to go to a wedding next week when I'll be 37 weeks pregnant so will look like a whale regardless of how nice a dress I wear Grin so I'm planning on getting my hair done as that always makes me feel more fancy, might be a good option if you are worrying about feeling stylish enough (although I'm sure you will look great and the main thing is to feel comfortable in what you are wearing).

Katharsis · 10/03/2019 20:02

highlandteajenny you might feel like a whale but you'll look like a beautiful glowing pregnant woman. Good idea on the hair, thanks.

PhasecEight have a few pale pink jackets on sale that might work well with your dress

Katharsis · 10/03/2019 20:15

Thanks Mamahotfoot definitely think a jacket similar to your post is the way to go, very sophisticated looking (first for me!) :)

How tall are you ? I'm thinking of your tall it will look too short and a bit beachy .

whitehalleve · 10/03/2019 20:21

I like it. It will look great if you just wedding yourself up a bit. Pink shoes sounds lovely.

Katharsis · 10/03/2019 20:30

VictoriaBun I'm 5'2. What's beachy? Never heard of that before....

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 10/03/2019 20:38

That little pink jacket is cute, and looks as if it might work well with the dress. The dress is really pretty.

I wouldn't bother with pink heels, unless you'd wear them again. Black strappy ones would look nice, maybe - and easier to wear again with jeans.

highlandteajenny · 10/03/2019 20:40

Aww thanks katharsis!

HarrySnotter · 10/03/2019 20:55

I think it's lovely and not a bit 'supermarket'. What a silly thing to say. That pink jacket mama posted would look lovely. X

littlebillie · 10/03/2019 21:19

Love both the pink jackets

VictoriaBun · 10/03/2019 21:21

I was concerned it would be too short and therefore look like a beach dress but obviously not !

Pinkyyy · 10/03/2019 21:27

For me, the pink shoes and shrug/jacket would be too matchy-matchy. I'd go for a rose gold shoe instead. Have you considered any type of hair accessories? If you haven't been to wedding in a while you may not know, but fascinators have made a very big comeback!

asparalite · 10/03/2019 21:28

Id like grey or silver shoes with the dress, pink could look a bit cheap.

BlueMerchant · 10/03/2019 21:32

Very nice dress. Just don't do matching shoes, bag and shrug. Too matching doesn't look very modern and it cheapens the look imo.

shakeapoo · 10/03/2019 21:39

Yes like that but mine are shorter

Ninkaninus · 10/03/2019 23:04

I don’t think she was saying the dress looks supermarkety...just saying the shoes and shrug need to be of good quality to lift the outfit rather than make it look a bit off. If you do wear pink shoes and shrug I would colour block with your bag for the same reason. Either something bright like red or yellow, or a neutral such as gold, nude, mushroom or tan.

Ninkaninus · 10/03/2019 23:05

Orange or yellow would work for shoes/bag too.
