Best foundation for every day

I have tried lots of foundations - e.g. Vitalumiere, Estee Lauder Double Wear etc and like both equally - yet for work I baulk at applying my best foundations everyday - yet have done this.

Currently using Maybelline mousse foundation.

Have tried higher end Revlon etc foundations but colour is never quite right - either always too dark or light.

Got samples of two lovely Bobbi Brown foundations the other week and they are lovely but should I wear them everyday?

Which mid range/price foundations do you recommend if at all?

After a light-medium coverage but don't do BB/CC creams etc.

I use pur 4 in 1 mineral compact. Though a powder it does not cake at all goes on effortlessly and depending on how much coverage you require you put on as little or as much as you like. I buy it in M&S not sure were else you can get it. It was definitely a game changer for me after using various cream foundations and bb & cc creams

MadameDD · 08/03/2019 11:31

Celticrose - really? whenever I've tried powder foundations - e.g. Clarins - I've found them quite drying but not tried a mineral one.

Will have a look for this thanks.

L'oreal pro glow or pro matte (depending on your skin) are really fabulous. I wanted an upgrade from revlon colorstay and tried many many (all!) pharmacy/drugstore type foundations and this is BY FAR the best. It covers, smooths and lasts and the colours are good (but limited)

dontgobaconmyheart · 08/03/2019 12:59

At the moment I'm using the CYO Long Lasting Foundation that I picked up on a whim in boots because the colour match was good. I really like it for every day, I'd I feel a need 'more' from it I add a bit of the Lancome teint idole that I tend to use for occasions/going out.

I've also just picked up the new no.7 foundation which looks promising. I tend to prefer a medium coverage, easily bendable, non-drying finish that isn't too matte or mask like, but definitely can't get away with anything too sheer or luminous and all of the above work for me! I've tried mineral foundations but they are a disaster on my skin sadly!

Celticrose · 08/03/2019 12:59

MadameDD I found it really good and so quick to use. You do need a good brush. I do have combination skin dry forehead and cheek area with oily nose and chin so do sometimes have to reapply but that is so easy to do literally seconds. I find it really evens out my skin tone. You can look it up on the M&S website and have a look at the reviews. I tend to buy it when Mark's have their 20% discount on

mrsk28 · 08/03/2019 13:14

I'm also a fan of double wear and other high end foundations but don't know to use them all the time.

I've heard great things about the new no7 foundation so I'm going to give that a try. Apparently the shades are great and lasts all day.

SrSteveOskowski · 08/03/2019 17:45

Rimmel with the red top (25 hour I think?) for everyday. Mac Studio or ELDW for 'going out' make-up.

ZigZagZombie · 08/03/2019 18:12

I'm a total foundation whore - currently for day-to-day use in love with Avon True colour cream to powder foundation and it's working really well for me for light, subtle coverage which doesn't require precise application and blending.

IamTheMeg · 08/03/2019 18:55

Love all the bourjois ones- city radiance, serum ones etc.Smile

YesQueen · 08/03/2019 19:57

CYO lifeproof is the best foundation I've ever used

Tilikum · 08/03/2019 20:25

I love The Ordinary foundations, I use both the 'serum' foundation (more glowy) and the 'coverage' foundation (matte). They are about £5 each, last for ages and have a huge range of colours, including the very rare foundation colour that I need; ghostly blue white.

Beautifullymixed · 09/03/2019 10:24

I love maybelline fit me foundation.
The dewy one for when I'm dry and dehydrated, or the matte and poreless in the summer.
I've tried so many other foundations, but the colour match for me is superb, and they are such good value.
Easy to blend, and my skin still looks like skin.
Plus, it delivers from amazon - so I don't even need to leave the house. Smile

SleepingIsOverrated · 09/03/2019 10:30

I could have written this OP, I've been using Dior for years but it pains me to work out how much I'm spending on my face when I'm not actually going anywhere fancy.

I went into boots yesterday and had a no7 colour match after reading so many good things in here - I've got 3 sample pots sat on my dressing table ready to use over the next few days.

MadameDD · 13/03/2019 10:48

IAmTheMeg I've tried Bourjois ones I think and wasn't overly impressed with them!

Currently using a Maybelline Dream Mousse one which is good but not the best colour match - but it'll do!

I nearly bought the new Boots No 7 one yesterday (Hydraluminous I think it’s called?). It’s had good reviews and is currently on offer (£5 off), but I’ve got so many foundations on the go that I managed to not succumb!

JinglingHellsBells · 13/03/2019 11:51

Why do you want one for 'everyday'- what's the other option? evenings? Special occasions?

I have one foundation. I don't think it's worth skimping on the price if ti's affordable.

I buy high end foundation- Bobbi Brown and Dior- and they last 6 months using it every day.

I don't feel there is any point looking for a cheaper one and a 'best one'.

ChardonnaysPrettySister · 13/03/2019 11:56

I'm with HellsBells on this one. Use the best makeup you have every day. No point keeping it for Sunday best, if it goes off you'll have to throw it away.

Alsohuman · 13/03/2019 12:32

Me too. By the time you’ve wasted money on cheap foundations that disappoint it’s cost more than using the good stuff every day. I use Suqqu foundation every day, it costs ££££ but a jar lasts a year and nothing else comes close.

Judystilldreamsofhorses · 13/03/2019 13:49

I have just switched from YSL to Dior. I wear it every day, and don’t understand why you would want to use something less than best if you have it - I bet you spend a lot more time at work than out!

macnab · 13/03/2019 13:56

I got a sample of the new Boots No7 "HydraLuminous Moisturising Foundation" am wearing it today and it's lovely. It went on well, great coverage and is wearing well since I applied it at 7am. I have been using their Lift & Luminate foundation but I think I'll move on to this one now, I really like it.

BigRedBoat · 13/03/2019 20:01

If you save the expensive one 'for best' it might go off before you use it up.

MadameDD · 18/03/2019 11:29

JinglingHellsBells - I just see it as a waste to use expensive foundation every day apart from when I got up earlier to apply ELDW - plus sometimes I apply it on the train/bus so juggling a bottle of it isn't good.

Compact foundation is great for travel but I find I go through that really quickly.

BigRedBoat - had Vitalumiere in bottle for ages - and didn't seem to go off.

CardiganB · 18/03/2019 12:14

YY to The Ordinary foundations - both finishes are really great and only £5.90.

Aberforthsgoat · 18/03/2019 12:20

No7 hydro (the new one) got colour matched there and that foundation combined with the new under eye concealer in the same range was a game changer
I’ve used double wear for years but this gives a great glowy coverage without looking matte and stays put. Not too pricey either

ElevenOhFive · 18/03/2019 12:30

I am also a Double Wear devotee but resent squandering it during the week at work. But nothing ever seems to be as good! Interested in the foundations mentioned by Sali Hughes here so plan to give them a go in the hunt for an everyday alternative. There are some good foundation colour matching sites like findation.com which give pretty accurate shade recommendations.
