@certainlymerry Meghan doesn't need to attract attention .She's up on a stage ,being photographed and filmed .

Are you thinking that she's thinking " Oh ,hang on a minute ,if I touch my bump I'll get photographed more ? " ?

itswinetime · 08/03/2019 17:14

That dress is spot on I think great cut on her an I like the pattern she looks fab. I'm interested to hear the panel when I get home later to! I think the length is fine why can't she wear short skirts? She has good legs and is comfortable I say go for it! She doesn't need tights I don't think I can't see what they would add to an outfit? She really seems to be finding her feet! Which is great to see!

Thedarklady · 08/03/2019 17:30

She doesn't need tights but being in the public eye and a member of the royal family it's more modest/correct etiquette?

I don't mind what she wears but I know this is ammo for the racists and snobs - they will definitely be criticising her for this.

Becles · 08/03/2019 17:31

Why on earth does she need tights if she's not in the mood? I only really wear tights in winter and count down to the weather being warm enough to stop.

My colleague is about 7 months pregnant now and even during that really cold spell refused tights a d kept opening her window at work as she was boiling hot.

Ps if I had legs like hers my skirts would be even shorter!

EstrellaDamn · 08/03/2019 17:38

Why is tights modest or better etiquette?

I call bullshit on that.

Pinkjellyfish · 08/03/2019 17:38

The shape isn’t the best for pregnancy but I love the style of Meghan’s dress, she really suits it! A shame that the material creases so easily though. She looks great with that hairstyle too.

I really don't think Meghan should be making clothing choices to please "racists and snobs". She's always going to receive criticism so therefore if anything she should just focus on finding a style that suits her and works best for the life she is now living.

I also agree that her outfits have really been coming together since NY, maybe she does have the input from a new stylist. She's also seems more self-assured and comfortable. Good for her to have legs like that at this stage in her pregnancy, why not get them out! Her shoes are gorgeous, I am still amazed at her poise in wearing sky high heels in late pregnancy - says a lot about her self-confidence. Good for her.

And just a shout out to Max for being amazing Star

IdaBWells · 08/03/2019 17:50

Do you think Anna Wintour from American Vogue had a sneaky meeting in NYC? Wink

itswinetime · 08/03/2019 17:54

It's international women's day and we are really saying that because who she has married she needs to wear tights?

In my opinion tights are great at hiding lumps bumps my horrible varicose veinsIf you want but I don't think the are necessary for modesty or etiquette! What do they even hide?

Sorry I will get off my soap box now

Disfordarkchocolate · 08/03/2019 17:59

Couldn't agree more itswinetime tights are an evil thrush inducing torture device to some people and there's no protocol that would make me wear them.

EstrellaDamn · 08/03/2019 18:02

Think for soapbox is just fine @itswinetime Smile

EstrellaDamn · 08/03/2019 18:02

Your! Your soapbox.

FFS I can't type today!

CurlyWurlyTwirly · 08/03/2019 18:04

Short speech by Meghan
Unfortunately I don’t think the whole discussion has been broadcast

CurlyWurlyTwirly · 08/03/2019 18:06

Some good quotes from QCT panel

CurlyWurlyTwirly · 08/03/2019 18:10

Sophie’s speech was very hard hitting against sexual violence.

Thedarklady · 08/03/2019 18:16

Meghan can wear what she wants but she will be criticised for this. There is an unofficial royal dress code or expectations/protocol (not always followed of course) that includes tights and knee length skirts and dresses. Useful due to camera angles, bad weather, oops moments.

I don't personally care whether she wears tights or not tights or maxi, midi, short... I just don't think it was the best choice for a filmed, on-stage panel and with legs crossed up high.

itswinetime · 08/03/2019 18:16

I know they aren't suppose to be political, but I'm really liking the royals becoming a bit more forward about some of these issues mental health, sexual violence education for women! Really great causes things to be bringing attention to! Especially nice to see the women leading the charge! Eugenie has been doing lots to highlight the anti slavery collective lately too!

CurlyWurlyTwirly · 08/03/2019 18:16

I wonder if Meghan has been getting tips from Amal Clooney.
She has a glam work wardrobe and favours that 60s look

LaurenOrdering · 08/03/2019 18:20

I agree that in this day & age there is no need to wear tights if you don't want too.
Legs are not immodest or impolite.

QueenOfTheAndals · 08/03/2019 18:20

That's a great speech by Sophie, I'm very impressed by it. Is there any film footage of her speaking?

I think that's all we'll see if Meghan's event as it was a panel rather than her giving a speech. She certainly sounds passionate about education for girls. With her appointment that was announced today, it's starting to look like HM is firmly on her side. Fairly impressive for someone who hasn't even been a royal for a year!

Agree @itswinetime - it's nice to see them use their privilege to try and make positive change, much like Diana did in the 80s with HIV/AIDS. And for all his faults, Charles was talking about organic food long before it became trendy!

Meghan’s skirt was a tad short; but she didn’t flash anything

frugalkitty · 08/03/2019 18:30

I thought Meghan looked really good today, but agree that the dress was a bit short for the sitting down bit. I'm still amazed that she's in high heels, I was wobbling like a weeble in flats at this stage, never mind heels! What did occur to me today though was how she's picked up so many solo engagements from the off, the RF clearly have confidence in her and she looks like she's enjoying what she does.

TyraAllen · 08/03/2019 18:41

Sure, the staging could be different for women. Or they could just wear something appropriate to how they know they'll be situated.

Or, radical thought, the standard setup for these kind of events could be something that enabled women to wear whatever perfectly acceptable clothing they felt like, so they wouldn't have to spend any more time considering the staging than the average man does.

(I've been listening to Caroline Criado Perez's book all day, and I'm slightly pissed off with everything!)

SwimmingInTheDeepBlueSea · 08/03/2019 18:47

She was already vocal about women's rights though wasn't she? Plus being an actor/ celeb first means being in the limelight, making speeches, etc aren't totally new. So it makes sense that she can jump right in more than would have been expected of others. She's still very impressive though.
