Holly Willoughbys M&S jumpsuit. Is this going to look shit on me?

I’m 5’ 0.5 cm. size 12-14 hourglass and big boobs. I’m 58. I’m young looking and look best in v casual clothes and live in skinny jeans, shirts, blazers, long sleeved tees etc.

Am I too old, too small, too curvy to give this a go? I don’t want to look ridiculous. Is there any way this might just work? I’d wear it with a plain tee under, maybe a belt depending on fit and trainers ( never ending ligament problem and can’t wear shoes )

It looks like the boiler suits my kids wear at school for mucking about in the woods. 🤣

HundredMilesAnHour · 04/03/2019 19:28

This hideous boiler suit is a great example of people slavishly following fashion rather than wanting to look even vaguely stylish. It isn't flattering to 99.9% of the population and it just makes the wearers look a bit dim as surely they must be able to see that they look dreadful?

Why anyone under 5'10 and larger than a size 6-8 would even contemplate wearing something like this is beyond me. Even catwalk models in boilersuits don't look great. I thought the trend for dungarees was bad but boilersuits?! Give me strength. Leave it for the teenagers, they can just about get away with it. On anyone over 20, the wearer just looks like they're trying-too-hard. Desperately desperately hard.

This reminds me of some of those posts that appear on Style & Beauty asking "what's in?" and I always find them very sad. Just buy what you actually like and what suits you. Have people no confidence in themselves these days? Why do people want to behave like sheep?

Phantology · 04/03/2019 19:28

It's very Rosie Riveter

Phantology · 04/03/2019 19:30

I don't like the boiler suit but after that bloody tedious lecture above I say if you like it buy it, OP.

WhiteDust · 04/03/2019 19:45

The blokes down at our local garage wear similar OP.
How much is it? The ones in screwfix are £29.99!
Seriously though, they are everywhere ATM. Not a good look OP!

RhodaChrosite · 04/03/2019 19:51

Phantology lol.

HundredMilesAnHour I loved boilersuits back in the 80s and they did suit me then even though I’m not model sized and over 20 at the time. If I try this one on and it doesn’t suit me I won’t get it. I’m not slavishly following fashion. I saw it and though it’s definitely not everyone’s cup of tea, I really like the utilitarian look of it. I choose styles I like, not because they happen to be the look of the moment, but because it’s something that I’d enjoy wearing. As an older woman who isn’t size 10 and over 5’7” there is very little that is designed with me in mind. I don’t want to look ridiculous though and if I think I do, I won’t buy it. I thInk going by the comments on here, it’s not an item with mass appeal that’s for sure.

thewinehasgonetomyhead thank you for that. I’ve not heard of Lucy and Yak but their boilersuits look much more stylish than the M&S one.

I know, it’s so awful when women don’t wear feminine clothes isn’t it?
I’m bloody determined to get one after reading this lot

Cherrypie32 · 04/03/2019 19:59

Not even Holly could rock it n the pics I saw on Instagram. She looked like she was going to fix the car. Never seen her look bad in anything but this.

LazyFace · 04/03/2019 20:01

If this is in a petite range, please let me know where it's being sold. It's be perfect for mucking out my chickens in. I mean it, please.

BertBox · 04/03/2019 20:05

There was a feature in this on the
Mailonline (sorry) last week - lots of different sized women wearing it with different shoes and accessories. The size 16 woman looked great. I'm not convinced big boobs would work though.

BentNeckLady · 04/03/2019 20:10

It looks shit on Holly tbf.

RhodaChrosite · 04/03/2019 20:19

DonaldTwain i really do look ridiculous in feminine clothes. I stand more chance of looking good in this boilersuit than I would in a skirt and heels. Masculine looking clothes are fine by me. They don’t make me feel any less feminine. We should be free to channel our inner Kwikfit fitter vibe if that’s what we want.

Hate it but you have to try it on and post a pic on here!!

RhodaChrosite · 04/03/2019 20:31

HollyBolly what, even if it looks horrific 😀

OP posts:
BlueMerchant · 04/03/2019 20:34

Its bloody awful.

PizzaPlanet · 04/03/2019 20:38

Reminds me of Julie Walters in Billy Elliot Grin

MorrisZapp · 04/03/2019 20:39

It would be like wearing a jacket only you can't take it off because then you'd be standing there in your pants.

Bananasarenottheonlyfruit · 04/03/2019 20:51

what, even if it looks horrific

Especially if it looks horrific. 😂
Take one for the team. Much like the person who went and tried on the legendary M&S pink dress a couple of years ago. And the one who wore it to a MN meet up.

artemisdubois · 04/03/2019 20:58

I think Holly looks good in it in the photo in the OP, but the model really doesn't. I think it needs to fit as closely as it does on Holly to look decent.

TSSDNCOP · 04/03/2019 21:15

No no no. I don't even believe Holly is wearing the same version.

Benny from Crossroads phoned and wants his suit back.

fiorentina · 04/03/2019 21:30

I tried it last week, I’m taller and 10-12 and it looked awful. I bought one from elsewhere that is so much more flattering on me! It was also v thick which made me worried I would boil, but that’s just me!

Amibeingnaive · 04/03/2019 21:32

I have it. It's great, but the legs are not narrow as they appear on Holly.

Justgivemesomepeace · 04/03/2019 21:33

Mmmm trying to be positive about it but it really looks like a pair of overalls my dad used to wear to fix the car.

Amibeingnaive · 04/03/2019 21:33

I also have a Lucy and Yak one. The M&S is more flattering, but I love them both.
