Is leopard print a bit ‘over’

I know leopard print is a classic that will never truest die. But it’s had a bit a ‘moment’ lately - do you think it has got a bit over-exposed and will look a bit old-hat soon. Or will it live on?

I’m toying with the idea of investing in some leopard print items but they’re things i’ll want to be wearing in years to come, not one season wonders. Will I regret it?

I think it's here for a while yet!

trendingorange · 03/03/2019 23:56

I think animal print is always in & out .... so just wear it if you like it, don't if you don'tSmile

PickAChew · 04/03/2019 00:03

Yeah, probably for the past 20 years

Elllllle · 04/03/2019 00:28

Leopard print won't date like say, cold shoulder tops. It is having a moment though and there's too much around

BoswellsBollocks · 04/03/2019 00:31

A true classic leopard print item will always be in style. It’s the whole leopard with mustard/red/yellow that’ll soon be over.

Bluesheep8 · 04/03/2019 06:46

I think it's here forever. Tastefully done, it's a classic imo. As a pp said though, the brightly coloured versions are a "now" thing and will date I think.

Tenpole · 04/03/2019 06:59

I'm over it. Wouldn't be looking to buy anything new, but still wearing the dress I've got.

CherryPavlova · 04/03/2019 07:07

I can’t help but think of Eastenders when anyone mentions leopard print.

StellaRockafella · 04/03/2019 07:08

No, it's not over. Far from it. It's such a durable classic that it's not going to disappear anytime yet. (To my mind, Mrs Robinson in The Graduate is one of leopard print's biggest advocates and her leopard print outfits transcend time.)

As you and others say, it's having a bit of a moment, but then it seems to most years now which makes it more of staple than a trend. If you want to buy into leopard print, be sure to buy pieces that won't date - by this i mean sticking to classic leopard print colours and tones, and opting for items that aren't trend. By the latter i mean it's buying a leopard print skinny belt or coat rather than a bias-cut leopard print skirt. (Bias cut skirts have resurfaced after 20 years and I give them a season or two at most before they're out of fashion again. Also, the bulk of the bias cut skirts I've seen are badly cut.)

I have long loved a bit of leopard or snake print but it's looking very tired nowadays.

ItsClemFandangoCanYouHearMe · 04/03/2019 08:04

I hope it never goes out, I adore it!

I think snake print is the 'in thing' at the moment though and I don't like that.

funmummy48 · 04/03/2019 08:08

Unfortunately, it never truly goes away. It always makes me think of Bett Lynch from Coronation Street, (showing my age now!)

siestakey · 04/03/2019 08:16

I would rather kill myself than ever wear ANY animal print. Then again, I'm 20, it's really not fashionable.
I think it's horribly ageing.

FormerlyFrikadela01 · 04/03/2019 08:21

Then again, I'm 20, it's really not fashionable.
I don't think the college students that get on my bus got that memo. I've seen lots of older teenagers wearing animal print, especially snake print.

siestakey · 04/03/2019 08:30

@FormerlyFrikadela01 🤢🤢

Sparkletastic · 04/03/2019 10:41

It's EVERYWHERE at the moment. Zara looks like a zoo threw up in it. I used to love it but I think I need a good long break from it now.

BusterGonad · 04/03/2019 10:46

I like it, I don't own much of it but that's because I don't like the cheap looking leopard, or I'm just fussy!

MissEliza · 04/03/2019 11:41

Zara looks like a zoo threw up in it. Grin

Judystilldreamsofhorses · 04/03/2019 11:58

I love leopard print, and don't care whether it's in or out.

siestakey that's an extreme reaction! Where do you shop in terms of it not being fashionable? The shops here are jam packed with it. I'm a lecturer, and the majority of my students are about your age - in my class this morning I had three people wearing leopard print.

SurgeHopper · 04/03/2019 12:24

Bit much, siestakey

Ellapaella · 04/03/2019 12:59

How is it 'ageing'?

Greenglassteacup · 04/03/2019 13:04

I’m wearing a really old pair of top shop leaopard print ankle boots today but I don’t give a fuck about what’s in fashion, I just wear what I like 🐆

Greenglassteacup · 04/03/2019 13:05

Leopard!

Sparkletastic · 04/03/2019 13:06

Ooooh that's where my boots are from Green! Are yours pony skin?

siestakey · 04/03/2019 13:40

@Judystilldreamsofhorses yeah the shops are packed with it, just seen a whole area in H&M. I usually shop at H&M, Zara, Debenhams, Hollister etc.

@Ellapaella It just is to me, around here it's middle aged women that wear it, I've never seen any friends wear it when out.
