Is leopard print a bit ‘over’

I know leopard print is a classic that will never truest die. But it’s had a bit a ‘moment’ lately - do you think it has got a bit over-exposed and will look a bit old-hat soon. Or will it live on?

I’m toying with the idea of investing in some leopard print items but they’re things i’ll want to be wearing in years to come, not one season wonders. Will I regret it?

Not for me - just ordered some gorgeous sold out Zara leopard jeans from Ebay - I'll probably be too fat and pregnant (currently 8 weeks) to fit into them but the fake snake ones I bought from Zara are gorgeous and stretchy even over a larger stomach.

I'm determined not to put on so much weight with this pregnancy either and I was one of 2 other women in my aqua aerobics class who were both pregnant last week!

MadameDD · 04/03/2019 14:57

Oh, I have some lovely leopard/animal print ankle Boden boots, will dig out and some old Bally heels with pony skin leopard print.

LHMB · 04/03/2019 15:28

I like it as long as it’s not too cheap looking, and I would only wear one animal print piece at a time. I don’t like snake print. Some animal print things are really nice, but some look tacky

MadameDD · 04/03/2019 15:59

LHMB - I got a gorgeous snake print floaty top for SIL which she wears a lot - had her first baby (now 7 months old) last year and it's easy to pull on and off and is lightweight.

My snake print jeans are so comfy - even with the start of a pregnancy stomach.

Justonemorepancake · 04/03/2019 16:04

I liked it but I'm also over it as it's bloody everywhere and I feel a bit 'fashion slave' now if I wear it. I'm hoping it goes out and all the fashionistas stop wearing it then I can bust it out again without feeling like I'm wearing an Instagram uniform.

HarrySnotter · 04/03/2019 16:39

I would rather kill myself than ever wear ANY animal print. Then again, I'm 20, it's really not fashionable.

This makes you sound about 12, not 20.

siestakey · 04/03/2019 18:33

@HarrySnotter it's called sarcasm.

origamiunicorn · 04/03/2019 18:36

Leopard print is a classic, I have a leopard print scarf and some flats I bought over a decade ago and every few years it's back in fashion. (I'd like to say I haven't ever stopped eating it, trendy or not)

Leopard print is a neutral don't ya know Wink

Angelinthenightx · 04/03/2019 19:38

Its always in cant see it going out.

LadyMonicaBaddingham · 04/03/2019 19:45

I'm almost but not quite sorry to say that I consider leopard print to be a be a neutral...

XingMing · 04/03/2019 20:13

I think it's an Autumn/Winter look, so would write it off for a while, but see how it returns in September. And it will return, because it's a colour scheme that links the black, brown, grey and cream colour range that works well in chilly temperatures, yet tones with reds and navies. It's not dead any time soon.

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 04/03/2019 21:36

I love Leopard , I'm no Bet Lynch though, I'm 52 and brunette.

I bought the M&S coat a couple of years ago, much to my DD disgust.

I was eyeing up some zebra bra/pants the other day (didn't buy them though)

Zebra is "in"

I only wear one animal print at a time , I prefer it with black.

And never ever mix my animals . No Double Animal either .

Floisme · 04/03/2019 22:05

I agree it's a classic. But being a classic doesn't mean never going out of fashion - it just means it always comes back again.

I also think that, when they try and freshen up a classic by sending it out in new colours, it's often a sign that they're starting to run out of ideas. Not always - denim jackets survived it a few years ago - but it doesn't fill me with confidence.

I'd still give it a couple more seasons but when something gets this huge, there's always going to be a kickback eventually. It's the law of gravity.

Milliy · 04/03/2019 22:12

It won't be around forever. For instance back in the day no one wore it as it was associated with Bet Lynch and tackiness. Wear it as it's in, enjoy it but don't spend loads. Just get some key pieces to enhance other outfits. All fashion changes. It goes around and around. Flares are back and bootcuts seeing a revival. Midis and maxis. All worn before but went out for about 14 years.

chipsandgin · 04/03/2019 22:16

Agree with the ‘its a neutral’ comments & you need to be careful. I’ve been coveting this:

www.neverfullydressed.co.uk/collections/skirts/products/adelaide-skirt

Wouldn’t go double animal though like the very beautiful model (mainly because I couldn’t get away with it!).

They do a gorgeous zebra skirt too, no tall sizes though so I’m looking for an alternative.

Bananasarenottheonlyfruit · 04/03/2019 22:18

I have never worn animal prints. I don't know about classic. To me, they are tacky. I also have a bit of a thing about the idea of wearing a pretend dead exotic animal. Hard to explain, but I don't want to look like I aspire to wearing endangered species.

Each to their own though.

RoseAndRose · 04/03/2019 22:19

Leopard is Bet Lynch - classic Corrie

It can be big and brash, or just a more restrained accent (with a hint of naughty)

DramaAlpaca · 04/03/2019 22:21

I agree with you Bananas, but we seem to be in the minority.

siestakey · 04/03/2019 23:49

@Bananasarenottheonlyfruit I didn't want to say it first, but I agree it is tacky Grin

Same with faux fur, why do you need to wear it fake dead animal? It's bizarre.

Petalflowers · 05/03/2019 22:13

Phew, I can go on wearing my leopard top (from m and s) a bit longer now.

AuntVanya · 05/03/2019 22:16

Perennial.

evilharpy · 06/03/2019 08:46

I still like it but am fussy about which pieces I’ll wear. I have a lovely soft fine knit leopard jumper today with grey skinny jeans and boots similar to Dr Martens, and very plain make up, hopefully I don’t look too tacky.

I have a beautiful pony skin type leopard coat from Karen Millen that I love but just feel a bit too conspicuous in so I rarely wear it.

LHMB · 06/03/2019 12:04

I’ve been looking for a grey leopard cardigan, can’t find one anywhere
