I need a new shampoo and conditioner..

Basically as the title says.. I'm in need of some some shampoo and conditioner!

For the past year or two I've been using bed head products and I've run out of the last lot.

I have recently had my extentions taken out as well so my hair is in need of some TLC.
I'm also booked in for my hair dying and will be going blonder in a few weeks.
I only wash my hair once every 5-7 days so don't want anything that's packed with moisture and will make my hair greasy.

Any recommendations of 'high street' shampoo and conditions from boots/Superdrug etc or should I stay with a salon brand?

I asked my hairdresser and she said to use 'Fanola' which is a silver shampoo and then a Revlon hair mask which they sell at the salon.

@Pommes yeah that's the one! Bought them from home bargains I think for about the same price

I'm gonna wash my hair tonight. I've never been this excited to try out a new hair mask and shampoo/conditioner

Watching with interest! I desperately need a new shampoo and conditioner and I suffer with psoriasis too. I was using pureology and it made my hair amazing and didn't irritate my scalp however, it gave me a severe allergy on my face and neck! I was covered in red lumps and acne! Still recovering from it now! Was actually thinking about the faith in nature fragrance free shampoo and conditioner. I've tried 2 of the Maui range now but didn't get on with either and the ogx range destroyed my scalp! I've tried literally dozens! Oh and I can't use keratin either!

JustBeenNosey · 07/03/2019 17:19

@mintmagnummm oh really! Oh no!!

I'll stay away from that then.

Which of the Maui ones did you use?
I'm gonna try them tonight so I'll see how they go?
What didn't you like about them? Or was it just that you didn't like them 😂

What happened when you used the OGX? Did it make your scalp worse?

I use a diprobate (I think) gel stuff to go on my scalp which I use before I dry my hair but nothing really seems to help my psoriasis tbh. I think the next step will be to try the light therapy as it doesn't seem to clearing up on my elbow/legs

I use the Body Shop Fuji Green Tea shampoo. I used to use the Tigi Oatmeal stuff, which seemed great but I had a lot of shedding / hair coming out if I ran my hands through it or brushed. I thought it was just old age but it's stopped since I switched shampoo.

JustBeenNosey · 07/03/2019 18:18

@TitilatedOcelot I tried the strawberry body shop one but it was when I had my extensions in and didn't really like it.. whether that was due to my extensions or it was the shampoo.

That's interesting.. as obviously when I had my extensions taken out and combed through, I'd lost quite abit of hair.

How do you find the body shop stuff you use at the moment?
And do you have any psoriasis or anything on your scalp at all or are you flake free? 😂

mintmagnummm · 07/03/2019 18:25

@JustBeenNosey I tried the blue one which I think is coconut and also the Shea one. I thought I was going to love them as they lathered well for sulphate free and rinsed nice etc but they seemed to cause a slight build up on my scalp and I was a little itchy.

Ogx gave me awful sore lumps in my scalp and made me extremely itchy and flaky! Every single one of them I tried did exactly the same!

Dr organic from h&b made my hair feel like straw

Shea moisture was horrible for me

Liz Earle no good

The list goes on and on and on lol

JustBeenNosey · 07/03/2019 18:29

@mintmagnummm ohhh okay.. well I'm gonna give this one a try. It says to 'thicken and restore' so fingers crossed!

If I don't like this one, I think I might try the ginger one from Body Shop because that's meant to be good for your scalp and then if I don't like that one, I'm gonna try the 'Faith In Nature'
The only reason I didn't get that was because they didn't have it in the Superdrug I went to.

I'll stay away from the ones you have mentioned then😂😂

@JustBeenNosey let me add the body shop ginger to my list of no's 😂. It's not sulphate free, it seemed to strip my colour. It wasn't the worst out of all the ones I've tried but defo not a keeper for me unfortunately. Lots of people swear by it though.

JustBeenNosey · 07/03/2019 19:04

@mintmagnummm oh gosh 😂😂😂😂 what colour were you at the time?

I've read some really good reviews about the banana one as well from Body Shop but I'm not keen on banana Personally so I'm not sure about that one.

If you want something more natural would you be interested in trying a shampoo bar? Friendly soap do two really good ones, no nasty chemicals and they can really help with scalp issues. It takes a little while for me your hair to adjust to the lack of chemicals but my hair is much more manageable since I started using it.

TitilatedOcelot · 07/03/2019 20:02

@JustBeenNosey I haven't been using the Body Shop one for long, but so far it's ok. It's leaves my hair shiny and without build up but it does get greasy at the roots fairy quickly - that could be the cheapo conditioner I am using with it this week though! I don't have any scalp problems. I think with the Tigi one it must have been something in the shampoo, I carried on with the conditioner for a while until that ran out with no problems.

JustBeenNosey · 07/03/2019 20:08

@Disney2 I tried a shampoo bar from Lush before and wasn't that keen to be honest.

I think the one I had, had seaweed in though which might have been why I didn't like it.

The girl who I spoke to in lush did recommend a shampoo bar when she gave me the hair mask samples so might go back and give it a go at some point.

@TitilatedOcelot oh that's good then, I'm just about to dry mine after using that Maui stuff so we'll wait and see how my hair feels.
I only tend to wash mine every 6-8 days so I need something that won't go greasy at the roots quick 😂

That's really weird with that Tigi stuff isn't it 🤔

@JustBeenNosey blonde highlights. I used to use it with the banana conditioner which I really liked and used up a few bottles before it started to make my roots greasy. Shampoo and conditioner is a major issue for me!

JustBeenNosey · 07/03/2019 21:29

@mintmagnummm I wouldn't mind trying what one of the PP's said about not shampooing and just conditioning my hair..

See if that makes any difference 🤷🏼‍♀️

I have a patch on my scalp that’s red, flaky and itchy/bumpy, I haven’t identified what exactly it is yet and I don’t like shampoos with sulphates as they make my hair frizzy. I’ve got long crazily thick wavy hair and only use the blue clay L’Oréal shampoo & conditioner. I used to only condition the ends of my hair but it made the sore bit on my head worse, since I’ve been massaging the conditioner in to the dry bits it’s helped lots to calm it all down (as recommended by my hairdresser).

I tried the body shop ginger shampoo & banana conditioning mask around Christmas after such lofty reviews but they made my hair so dry and knotty, my hair was literally matted the next day and it took me an hour to work out all the tangles with my fingers. Never again!!

JustBeenNosey · 07/03/2019 21:53

@1wokeuplikethis that's what's happened to my hair when I used the strawberry Body Shop stuff!

I usually put the conditioner on my ends, leave it 5 minutes and then il put abit on the roots and massage it in and then rinse it all x

@JustBeenNosey how's your hair and scalp?

JustBeenNosey · 09/03/2019 13:06

@mintmagnummm Urm.. my hair feels, different?

I don't know if it's because I used abit too much of my heat defensive spray stuff and it's just got too much product on it or it was because of the new shampoo and conditioner.

My scalp is still abit flaky, but doesn't seem as itchy. But again, whether that's the new shampoo and conditioner or because I've no longer got my extensions in, I don't know🤷🏼‍♀️😂

I suppose I won't see a different straight away though! I'm gonna give it another wash and try the other lush mask on Thursday night after aqua fit

Still open to more ideas and more suggestions as well😂🤷🏼‍♀️

Hask shampoos and conditioners are the best I’ve used. You can buy them in Boots or Waitrose

JustBeenNosey · 10/03/2019 15:37

@Greenglassteacup ahhh yes! I think I've used one of their masks before..

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I seem to remember this having keratin in it?

OP posts:
Greenglassteacup · 10/03/2019 15:41

I have no idea what’s in it, just that my unmanageable thick hair is rendered smooth and shiny by it so it could have crushed cadaver bollocks in it for all I care

JustBeenNosey · 10/03/2019 15:43

@Greenglassteacup 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂

The only reason I ask is that I'm allergic to keratin that's all. I'll have a look at ingredients online now
