Commuting flats

atomicnotsoblonde · 26/02/2019 16:51

I'm about to start commuting by train. It's a 20 minute walk either end, so I can't do it in my usual heels. I was thinking if getting some flats to try and swapping to heels when I get there. I'm in a formal office with smart dresses etc.

I'm 5'2, and find flats uncomfortable/a bad look due to my height. I've bought these but am not convinced! I'm a size 3.

What flats work best for you? Are these horrific?!?

i just wear trainers then change. is this an option (i am also your height)

KaliforniaDreamz · 26/02/2019 17:05

sorry, to answer your question i think those are nice.

atomicnotsoblonde · 26/02/2019 18:19

Maybe it's just me.. they're really not my usual style so I'm finding it all a bit tricky!

Trainers is another good thought. I think I'd maybe prefer ballet type pumps, but they're rubbish for your feet!

I like your shoes and trainers would be totally fine. Please don't wear ballet pumps; they are sooo flat and not comfortable

Springiscomingsoon · 26/02/2019 19:04

Sketchers Go Walk are lovely.
Don't feel your feet have to look good with flat shoes - comfort is more important and I've seen so many people wearing trainers for commuting

KaliforniaDreamz · 26/02/2019 19:15

def trainers noone cares on the commute

ballet pumps are terrible for your back

TacoFlavouredKisses · 26/02/2019 19:31

I was going to suggest Skechers GoWalks too! Something like these...

Brogues are completely acceptable for work as well you know! I wear lace up shoes to work loads. For your commute they are more than adequate.

DonnaDarko · 26/02/2019 20:50

I don't have those Skechers but I recommend Skechers. I have two pairs and wear them daily (very casual company)

atomicnotsoblonde · 26/02/2019 20:51

I need to woman up, get something sensible but a bit more 'me'

I'm going to return the brogues and get some funky trainers, maybe bright red sneakers to make a statement?

Ps you're right. I'm way overthinking and no one cares apart from me!

Those look good though presumably you dont need to be this smart if you change as soon as you are in the office. I wear black addidas stan smiths for my 20 min city walk.

Girlsnightin · 26/02/2019 20:58

Sketches came to my mind too. Heels once arrived in the office.

EggysMom · 26/02/2019 21:00

I bought some lightweight walking shoes (almost trainers, but water resistant) from a sports shop. Very comfortable whatever the weather.

Trainers with a memory foam sole are lovely.

ouchiewow · 26/02/2019 21:14

Definitely trainers (like, running ones), Skechers or fitflops. I love/hate my fitflop f-sporty-'they're ugly as sin but I walk miles in them!

Nacreous · 26/02/2019 21:25

In the end I've bought some walking trainers. Once you're doing that kind of milage I found I was wearing through the fabric of running trainers in just a few months.

Once you start looking you'll realise loads of people commute in trainers.

fishonabicycle · 27/02/2019 10:35

Trainers or just wear flats all day! Flats are much cooler nowadays anyway! Heels can look quite dated.

dameofdilemma · 27/02/2019 15:50

Only thing with trainers is they can go soggy in the rain....I go for leather rather than fabric/canvas ones (converse fit my size 3 feet the best).

In Winter I wear flat ankle boots. In much warmer months fit flops.

Brogues can be uncomfy, I've had blisters and sore heels from some as the leather can be quite hard. They can also be hard on the soles.

babysharkah · 27/02/2019 15:58

Love my brogues, I don't change them I wear them all day. Patent ones can need a little breaking in.

trader21c · 27/02/2019 16:00

Most of us commuters wear trainers then change

PlainJane007 · 27/02/2019 16:04

I went to a black tie do in London last week in trainers and slipped my heels on outside the venue before going in. I wasn't the only one! And nobody batted an eyelid on the tube.

EmpressJewel · 27/02/2019 17:44

I second (or third) the sketchers go walk. I have a pair which are so comfy and light. They come in lots of styles as well.

atomicnotsoblonde · 27/02/2019 20:34

Thank you all! I've now got an excuse to get some new trainers! Grin
