Pixie cut? Be honest!

Hello everybody,

I'm considering a pixie cut, but really really don't want to regret it. My hair is thick and curly (I straighten after every wash). I considering this one specifically:

goo.gl/images/TzhQAf

I have scribbled over my eyes for some vague attempt at anonymity, and also my 10 month old is going through the mother of all sleep regressions, so I have the worst dark circles ever.

What do you think? Go for the chop, stay as I am or maybe something I haven't thought of?

Thanks in advance xx

Slightly regret using a photo with no make up and old pyjamas Blush well it does the job

It will be hard work with thick curly hair. I have the same and did it once when I was younger. It's a pain. A longer mid length style pixie might work better.

Thick curly hair is harder when it's shorter.

IntentsAndPorpoises · 24/02/2019 09:23

I've always wanted short hair. So I do sympathise.

Raisingawolfpack · 24/02/2019 09:24

I think you have the perfect bone structure for it.... Would you end up wearing it curly?

BlueMerchant · 24/02/2019 09:25

Think it would suit your face shape but it worries me you say it's thick and curly!

anatol · 24/02/2019 09:29

I think you have the face shape to pull it off but the photo you have shown will take some work if you have curly hair. It might also curl and wave over the course of the day. I also have thick curls and got my hair cut this length, although I kept it curly. I found the shorter it was, the more manageable so I ended up with it a lot shorter than your picture. The only reason I grew it out was that I needed to get it cut every 3-4 weeks to maintain the style and it was costing me a fortune!

Littlepond · 24/02/2019 09:31

I think that style would really suit you, but it’s whether your hair would actually do that and stay like it!

BrexitIsComing · 24/02/2019 09:32

How curly is it naturally? Loose curls, or quite tight? Audrey Tautou looks amazing with her curly pixie cut.

GaraMedouar · 24/02/2019 09:33

I think longer is easier so you can tie it back a bit. Also definitely no with your thick curly hair, it'd be really difficult to straighten shorter hair wouldn't it?

toastonbean · 24/02/2019 09:35

Definitely the right face shape for it !
Have you got another pic that shows the texture of your hair better?

Daisydoesnt · 24/02/2019 09:35

OP I don't understand even if you have straightened your hair, it does not look thick at all in your photo? Sorry, not saying that to be bitchy. In fact it looks like your hair is quite fine?

Anyway, assuming that is you then no a pixie cut isn't a good idea. The shorter hair gets, the harder it is to style the curl out of it. If you wanted to emulate that cut, you'll ned to wear it straight and smooth which will be damn near impossible with naturally curly hair. If you don't mind a pixie cut but wearing it curly then go for it. Longer/ mid length is definitely easier with curly hair if you want to style it straight - and keep it like that all day..

Daisydoesnt · 24/02/2019 09:37

Also OP in the pixie cut photo the hair is brushed forward over the forehead (which looks lovely) and I am not sure with your high forehead/ hairline yours would look like that?

Calledyoulastnightfromglasgow · 24/02/2019 09:38

I think you would suit it. Thick hair is ok. Curly or wavy?

AfterSchoolWorry · 24/02/2019 09:39

I always say about pixie cuts, people imagine Halle Berry but the reality is Denise Welch.

You don't look remotely like Denise Welch OP. But I think pixie cuts are ageing and difficult to wear. I know that lots of people disagree though.

PolKat19 · 24/02/2019 09:41

I definitely wouldn't be wearing it curly, I've never liked my natural curl, although love curly hair on other people.

It looks quite fine in the pic because I had it cut a couple of weeks ago and the hairdresser thinned it with thinning scissors. I basically kept shouting MORE...MORE until I had about four hairs left. But believe me it is naturally v thick and bushy, I'll see if I can find an older pic

I wouldn't if I were you. I think they only suit really gamine girls / women.

OP You sound just like me!!!

PolKat19 · 24/02/2019 09:44

@AfterSchoolWorry oh that has really given me pause for thought Shock I hadn't really thought of it as being an ageing cut, probably because all the pics I've been looking at are of really young people

I think your hair looks lovely, though I can totally understand that you might find it tricky.

However - I have similar strong features to you, and my one attempt at a short cut made me look more Michael McIntyre than Audrey Hepburn. Like this... www.thedailymash.co.uk/news/society/mum-hair-actually-designed-to-ward-off-men-2013030862130

PolKat19 · 24/02/2019 09:48

@Stuckforthefourthtime oh dear, definitely not what I'm aiming for!!

Unless you have a very petite frame and very feminine features, don't do it.
A delicate face.
Also, in reality it's an old woman's hairstyle.
Wait until your at least 50.

shinyNewPound · 24/02/2019 09:55

When I had a pixie cut the ends kept curling because that's where the curl started. Took a vast amount of hairspray to keep it looking okay (and even then, by the end of the day, it started going awry).

That being said, you could definitely pull it off with your features. Just expect it to be a lot more work.

PolKat19 · 24/02/2019 09:57

It's so good to have some unbiased opinions, all of my friends have just told me what I want to hear I think. Ok, I'm now definitely veering away from it as an idea, in favour of having a long bob with a full fringe

With all the thinning in the world I could get my hair looking as "thin" as yours, so maybe it isn't that thick? I have a special calming treatment done every 4 months, plus thinning and often an under cut and my hair sticks out more than yours.

I think it depends on how how curly.

IncrediblySadToo · 24/02/2019 10:00

Go for it. It’s not as if your hair is waist length, it won’t take long to grow it out if you don’t like it.
