This one from boden, which is lovely on and shows off my nearly 3 stone weight loss perfectly:

Or this one I've ordered from Monsoon which is a gorgeous colour but not sure yet if it fits (cos not arrived) and not sure if it would be too light (event is start of March so not sure if weather still cold)

I ordered a boden jumpsuit that had loads of great reviews but looks horrible on so I've decided to stick with a dress instead. Don't really have the budget for any other outfits.

Shoes - I have black shoe boots and gold court shoes. Which is best do you think? Again not really got any budget left.

I'm a size 16

Black tie definitely means floor length dress.

Imperfectsusan · 12/02/2019 23:02

Simplyput, both of those dresses are perfect.

thenightsky · 13/02/2019 09:27

Imperfectsusan That's what I thought, but a PP corrected me. However I found [[https://stylecaster.com/black-tie-formal-wear/style guide]] So now I'm all confused.

thenightsky · 13/02/2019 09:29

That's weird. My link has gone to completely the wrong page Blush I'll try again.

thenightsky · 13/02/2019 09:30

try again

The belted black dress from JC at Debenhams looks lovely. Would show off your waist just right.

I love the blue Monsoon dress as a work dress, how did you get is for £60 OP? Does it fit large or small? I am generally size 10 but carrying a bit too much on my tum at the moment Blush

And in real life black tie does not mean floor length, midi as you prefer absolutely fine.

bonnieweelass · 13/02/2019 10:27

I got a code for the monsoon dress

my DM is now saying to wear the first boden dress as its a nice comfortable fit and I can wear it again.

argh

ps I can pm anyone pictures of last year's event - don't want to post them on here in case I completely out myself though.

You're being a but confusing, you've said it's black tie but also that people wore top and trousers. We really can't help unless you tell us what you want

thenightsky · 13/02/2019 11:18

I think if your OH is wearing a tux, then you need to be more formal than the first two dresses you posted.

anniehm · 13/02/2019 11:43

Both are too casual for black tie, I would suggest black at least knee length if not longer, fitted bodice and sleeveless with a wrap is an easy wear option (I don't do strapless as it's a pain)

anniehm · 13/02/2019 11:44

Oxfam have second hand dresses, as do other charity shops, why buy me!

bonnieweelass · 13/02/2019 14:30

I'm trying to determine what is acceptable for a black tie event! I don't want to go too glam if it's just one night plus the pictures of previous events have confused me as to what counts as black tie.

My OH isn't going.

But I'll stop asking for help now, thanks

@bonnieweelass send me a pic of last years event please. I must go to 9 or ten of these events each year 😳.

NotMeNoNo · 13/02/2019 20:46

I've got a work event next month thats a black tie/evening dress dinner. Im going to wear a knee length satin cocktail dress. If it was a "ball" I might wear full length but not a dinner in March. I don't know if that's any help!
