What's everyone's opinion on 'glass skin'

RockyFlintstone · 06/02/2019 21:17

So it looks like matte everything (apart from ridiculous highlight!) is out and glossy is in. I have seen lots of talk about 'glass skin' and on Instagram Katie Jane Hughes (who is so beautiful) seems to be the go to for this?

What do people think? I think KJH does make it look fabulous, but it looks like it's really difficult to get right and that most people who attempt it will look like they have dipped their face in a vat of oil. I don't know, I like a bit of powder to set everything, but I also quite like the dewy look.

If you go in for it, do you have any tips or advice about products or getting it right?

I had to Google .... God no, she looks Vaselined !

When I read "Glass Skin" , I thought of skin that feels like glass. I read that the Dermalogica facials gave a glass like finish ( cool and smooth to the touch)

Lisa Eldridge did a great tutorial on YouTube for glass skin. She's amazing.

SuperstarDJ · 06/02/2019 21:36

It’s looks ridiculous in photos. No idea what it looks like in real life. I like dewy. This look isn’t dewy - it’s oily.

Calzone · 06/02/2019 21:38

She looks very sweaty.

Either she needs to turn the heating down or is about to barf.......

SurfClub · 06/02/2019 21:46

I agree the Lisa Eldridge tutorial on this is brilliant and just gives a super healthy looking glowy effect. If it looks oily it's not the same in my opinion. I put my highlight under my foundation now and have had lots of positive comments on how healthy I look. I'm really not into looking super shiny or oily.

MoltonSilver · 06/02/2019 21:47

I prefer skin that looks like skin, rather than glass.

LemonRedwood · 06/02/2019 21:50

Good grief, she's shiny! I'm glad I've reached an age where I don't care what's trendy anymore. They can prise my matte foundation and powder out of my cold, dead hands.

RockyFlintstone · 06/02/2019 21:52

So I'm feeling like it's a no from Mumsnet then? Grin

Looks awful.

GlitterPixie · 06/02/2019 22:06

Just looks sweaty

Jorgezaunders · 06/02/2019 22:09

She seems to have nice bone structure but the make up makes her look really ill.

Grapetree · 06/02/2019 22:10

Only people with good skin could attempt this
I have chronic acne and large pores, the last thing I’d want to do is accentuate it

I don’t think it looks that good anyway, natural dewy finish looks better

PasteSandwiches · 06/02/2019 22:17

Each to their own but if i saw shiny skin like that in the mirror looking back at me, I'd be legging it back to the doctors for my acne meds.

Flippidy · 06/02/2019 22:22

I quite like it

OP, love your username 😣 (that’s a blink).

I just did a quick Google and apparent 'glass skin' is supposed to be dewy, poreless baby type skin. From looking at KJHs photos if anything the glow highlights imperfections in the skin producing the opposite effect. She is a beautiful woman the makeup is otherwise spot on, if she toned the glow down I think she would look flawless. If she likes it though good for her, definitely not something I will be trying!

Props to her for not facetuning into oblivion though. I'm sick of seeing #nofilter makeup shots when they've gone so far with the blur tool that they have a Voldemort style no-nose.

It seems to be a flip in the other direction from the heavy matte makeup which requires you to contour shape back into your face as it's left so flat. We need to go to a balance in between!

cloudtree · 06/02/2019 22:27

Awful

I love KJH makeup so it's a yes from me.

Yes, I probably agree. I really like Nikkie Tutorials, I love her personality and she is really talented, but she basically puts so much base on that her features disappear and then she draws them back on.

OTT

tilder · 06/02/2019 22:34

Why would anyone choose to look like that? It's a no from me.

GinZing · 06/02/2019 22:39

Looks like she’s wearing a face cleansing mask. I don’t like it sorry.

PrismGuile · 06/02/2019 22:45

I've always done a toned down version of this, didn't know it had a name.

I moisturise and suncream then mix oil with my foundation and only apply powder to forehead and chin and eyelids.

It always gets compliments and stops skin getting dry

PurplePepperEater · 06/02/2019 22:48

I have an overwhelming urge to dab her with a tissue - I wonder if anyone in real life has actually done that, I think I definitely would
