Face moisturiser: you have to try this!

For the last week, I have swapped my usual makeup removal routine (Nivea eye makeup remover, Cerave facial wash (x2), Nip and Tuck Dragon's Blood serum, Environ youth eye gel, Avene moisture mask) for something completely different, and my skin looks and feels better than it has done in my entire life (I'm 52).

I still use Nivea eye makeup remover (because nothing else is as good), but I wash my face twice with soap (can't remember what type - perfume free, probably vegan so my DP can use it) and warm water and a slightly rough bamboo wash cloth, then slap on a large pea-sized lump of Neutrogena Norwegian formula hand cream (the concentrated one).

My pores have shrunk, my skin is smooth and clear, and it feels sooo comfortable. Has anyone else tried this? If not, you should give it a go. I have mature combination skin, for info.

What made you decide to put hand cream on your face??

StoatofDisarray · 05/02/2019 11:11

I was putting it on my hands earlier in the day and liked the way it felt. I tried it on my face that evening.

I don't bother washing my face in the morning (apart from a cold wet cloth on my eyes), and I don't even have to use primer now. I just go straight into EL Double Wear Nude with a bit of standard Double Wear over any areas of pigmentation, with some Chanel loose translucent powder or Rimmel Stay Matte over the top. Lasts even longer than usual before a touch-up. I can't express how freaking delighted by the success of this. Even my DP has noticed the change.

Is it the Neutrogena though, or the mystery vegan soap, or the bamboo wash cloth? You've changed too much! We don't know which one is working! Maybe the old routine was just buggering up your skin and opening your pores, and just stopping that would've changed it all, even if you'd washed your face with Flash and just put a lump of lard on afterwards. Oh God. HOW WILL WE KNOW?

Glad you're feeling so good, though. I'd love to shrink my pores, I look like a colander.

PestOfTheYear · 05/02/2019 11:50

I'd say that it is the glycerin in the hand cream, I use a face cream with glycerin in, its the only thing that makes my skin soft and makeup sit nice.

StoatofDisarray · 05/02/2019 11:56

Don't worry, Molly (love the name, Vaselines or Nirvana? :)

I have washed my face with the bamboo cloth and soap combo before (I'd run out of Cerave, and it was before I had the Nip and Tuck serum), and used the Avene cream afterwards. It was nice, but not life-changing.
What changed was the use of the hand cream!

Sounds good I’m giving it a go, think I have some in the bathroom cupboard already :)

StoatofDisarray · 05/02/2019 12:08

Just looked up the soap on Ocado/past orders. It was the Faith in Nature unfragranced with seaweed soap (£1.95), and for the sake of completeness, the bamboo face cloths are the (deep breath) "Wokee Standard Dish Cloth 5 Pack of Bamboo Fiber Dish Wash Cloth Towel for Kitchen 18x16cm Household Cleaning Dish Cloths High Efficient Anti-grease Dish Cloth Bamboo Fiber Washing Towel Magic Kitchen Cleaning Wiping" from Amazon, yes, I know they're dishcloths, but they're perfect for facial cleansing. £1.89 for a pack of 5.

I love this - dump all the expensive, specially formulated products and use a dish cloth, soap and hand cream! That sounds like my kind of regime 🤣

JMAngel1 · 05/02/2019 12:27

Macaroon - you just made me spurt coffee! How hilarious would it be if we all swapped to this and it bloody worked - going to try.
Thanks Stoat.

I look forward to hearing how you get on Brew

There's going to be a rush on this handcream if it works...

longtompot · 05/02/2019 20:51

I read your post earlier and looked up using handcream on your face. The general feeling seems to be to not to. It can block pores as its much heavier than face cream. Hands skin is tougher than your face and it needs a heavier duty cream. That said, my face has been going through its biannual 'I hate the face cream you are using and shall protest by being too dry' so I am considering trying this out at night time.

I use avene soap in my face and it’s the best thing ever.

Oil or cream gives me chin acne.

halfwitpicker · 06/02/2019 01:07

Is it that super thick hand cream? I went out with a builder once and bought him that's as a gift, his hands were rough as fuck

SandAndSea · 06/02/2019 01:12

I've got some Neutrogena cracked heel foot cream. Do you think it's the same?

MashedSpud · 06/02/2019 01:16

Witch hazel gel helps to close pores and reduces redness. Boots own brand is pretty cheap too.

MountPheasant · 06/02/2019 07:41

Very similar formula to the Waitrose bottom butter everyone was using as face cream a few years back!

CosyToast · 06/02/2019 08:26

I use bar soap on my face as well and the acne I've had since I was 12 has almost totally cleared up! Never would have used it before as my skin can be quite sensitive, but this one had cleared up all the spots on my back so I decided to try it! I'm also using baby lotion as make up remover and moisturiser after years of expensive products and it's at least as good, if not better 🤷🏼‍♀️ worth a try haha

ReturnofSaturn · 06/02/2019 08:33

To be honest I have completely cut out face cream/moisturiser as of a few months ago and my face has never been better.

Yes the first few days face was dry and 'tight' but it soon corrected itself and now it's fab!
Just wash my face in the shower with the water and a flannel.
On the days I wear makeup I use a few of my baby's sensitive baby wipes and then wash in shower the same as above.

Think it's all a bit of a swizz this moisturiser/face products bizz.
Like a circle of piss.. the more you use them the more you need them.

MrMeSeeks · 06/02/2019 08:39

I love avons tri phrase oil and their oil moisturiser cream. Face never dry or greasy and looks lovely.
I had some nip tuck masks for xmas and ot made my face bright red and tight Blush

StoatofDisarray · 06/02/2019 09:06

Good morning! I'm checking in to see if anyone has tried it Grin

longtom: well, i've been using it for a week, and if anything my skin has improved. I agree it might not suit everyone - but what does?

OP posts:
MrMeSeeks · 06/02/2019 12:39

Is it the scented or unscented one?

MrMeSeeks · 06/02/2019 12:41

Or the fast absorbing one?

StoatofDisarray · 06/02/2019 12:57

I use the unscented one.
