Where to get decent socks?

M&S has gone to the dogs as far as I'm concerned - bought one of their multipacks of socks but they are not good quality like they used to be - wear out very quickly and slip down my foot. Infuriating when wearing boots.

Can anyone recommend some better quality ones that don't cost the earth?

I'd be interested in the answer too. I like thick warm socks that don't wear through at the heel after a few wears. I've had to pay about £12 / pair to get what I need. Outrageous prices, but they are wearing well, so I comfort myself that price per wear is better than cheaper, rubbishy socks that I have to throw away.

Primark... last forever (literally) and dont offend my seam hating must be soft feet.

Not for thermal/warmer socks though...

WhatwouldCJdo · 31/01/2019 10:52

I get mine from TKmaxx. I like the Penguin club ones and bamboo ones (super soft but do get holes quicker).
Also like Gap socks

Heyha · 31/01/2019 10:56

Outdoor shops sell socks designed to do a job, not all thick thermal things either.

Mercurial123 · 31/01/2019 15:06

Muji

Sonotkylie · 31/01/2019 15:20

Have you tried M and S MENS socks? Mine are a couple of years old so may have gone to the dogs too now, but these boys are still going strong.
Or Uniqlo

Honestly I have tried so many different makes of socks and the only ones that do not slip down on my feet are Nike black sports socks. I've tried M&S, next, Cos, Calvin Klein, John Lewis, Tesco....I have size 5 feet. Always slips down on my right foot. So strange Confused

ShatnersBassoon · 31/01/2019 15:29

My best socks are Joules. They're really hard wearing without being very thick, and they don't shrink in the tumble dryer.

sizzledrizz · 31/01/2019 15:52

I buy Tesco boys socks.

AmethystMoon · 31/01/2019 16:07

I like Seasalt socks, they've washed and worn well. Also often 3 for 2.

CherryBlossom23 · 31/01/2019 16:13

Seconding the bamboo socks from TK Maxx. I got sock shop ones and they're super soft and fit well.

Yulebealrite · 31/01/2019 16:14

I was going to say TK Maxx.
They are reasonably priced, good quality and the bamboo ones are so soft.

RiverTam · 31/01/2019 16:15

Waitrose do some good warm winter socks

I buy mine all over the place, though rarely M&S - H&M, Fat Face, White Stuff, JL. But I have noticed that pretty much all brands have done downhill and are a lot thinner than they used to be. Same with kids socks - I always get DD's in JL and they are definitely thinner than a few years back.

Best winter socks I've ever had are SmartWool ones but they are very expensive.

KaliforniaDreamz · 31/01/2019 17:22

Gap and also any made from Bamboo
for super warm (eg skiing) there are a heat tech pair from next £10

SunnySomer · 31/01/2019 17:27

Best socks for everyday are John Lewis men’s woollen socks (as long as you’re size 6 or bigger) or Falke Cosywool. Both relatively expensive but warm, well fitting and last years. I think my oldest of each are 7 years old. And I have had sock shop socks that literally lasted one wear, so I’m not some weird, soft-footed person!

DPotter · 31/01/2019 17:41

bamboo socks from BAM - so comfy and last for ages. they have a sale on which finishes today - bambooclothing.co.uk/shop/bamboo-socks-rock-pack-4-pairs/

flapjackfairy · 31/01/2019 17:43

Sockshop on line . They make lovely socks and they wash really well. I don't buy socks anywhere else .

NewModelArmyMayhem18 · 31/01/2019 17:45

I have some black 'Hue' socks that I've had for 20 years. Worn regularly and still no holes in them. I think they cost me about £8 (from House of Fraser) in the late 90s. My feet have spread since having DC though so I've given them to my DD.

Comenext · 31/01/2019 18:51

TKMaxx Bamboo socks. (As a PP said, these are sift but wear out quite quickly)

Comenext · 31/01/2019 18:52

*soft

ChardonnaysPrettySister · 31/01/2019 19:16

The BAM bamboo ones are very comfortable.

user1471453601 · 31/01/2019 19:23

Ohh, socks! Green Treat every time. So, so soft, however often you wash the m. We (DD, her partner and i) have had them on our Xmas wish lists for over four years. Such nice socks

500BusStops · 31/01/2019 20:29

I second Muji! Great quality and nice colours

Smallinthesmoke · 31/01/2019 22:31

yes, Muji are the best.
Bam are nice but don't last so well.

SwearyInn · 31/01/2019 22:35

Sea salt bamboo socks. I have many many many pairs and I cherish them dearly.
