Handbag for dd's 16th birthday

twosoups1972 · 20/01/2019 12:25

Dd will be 16 soon and likes the idea of a handbag for a present. I love bags myself but have no idea what to get for her. I've suggested a cross-body style but she says she prefers a shoulder bag. She loves my Coach scout hobo bag!

Budget around £150. Any ideas please?

The Coach sale is still on, but I would imagine it will finish very soon as they're currently offering an extra 20% off.

Thank you, I'm just not sure Coach is right for a teenage girl....? What other brands can I look at?

If your budget is 150, then I would get the Coach for her.

tellmewhenthespaceshiplands · 21/01/2019 12:58

She's a lucky girl OP, I would have LOVED a beautiful bag for my 16th birthday!
I was given a Fossil leather bag last year granted I'm well old so my finger isn't quite on the pulse of fashion and I love it, it looks like it will age well too.
Coach bags are bloody gorgeous though.

HolgerLowCarbingLoser · 21/01/2019 18:07

I think Coach is too old for a 16 year old, personally. It wouldn’t be a brand I would suggest for her age. But if she really likes your hobo then she obviously likes and appreciates the brand so then it could be perfect for her...

I’d look at Kate Spade. Or maybe Tk Maxx for something like Love Moschino or Versace or similar. Marc by Marc Jacobs, or shock horror Michael Kors (I wouldn’t, but lots of young kids do like them).

What brands does she wear? What’s her general style? If a shoulder bag is what she wants then a coach hobo sounds like a great option. Good luck!

cupcakesandglitter · 21/01/2019 18:19

I'd say Michael Kors - popular with teenagers and will fit into your budget nicely! Coach is far too old for a 16yo Smile

whiskeysourpuss · 21/01/2019 18:29

DD17 asked for a Michael Kors handbag for Christmas - she loves it & her godmother got her the matching purse... agree with PPs that they're popular amongst teens.

GreenDinosaur · 21/01/2019 18:59

Maybe you could choose one together and still wrap it up for her birthday? Then you'd know it would be something she'd really love and it could be a fun experience.

Angelicwings · 21/01/2019 20:49

Ted Baker? Not sure if that's trendy enough for her age though.

Brightpinktulip · 21/01/2019 21:24

Michael kors. On trend for teens, I don't know why they are so hated on here. I've got a couple, hardwearing, good quality, always get compliments on them. Or Ralph Lauren bags are nice too.

GivemeGivenchy · 21/01/2019 21:44

Lulu Guinness I think would be a great bag for a teenager

RJnomore1 · 21/01/2019 21:45

I got my oldest a ted baker for her 16th. It depends what your daughter is like. Mine would rather tear her fingernails out than be seen dead with Michael Kors, on the other hand my god daughter would probably love it but they're very different people.

GivemeGivenchy · 21/01/2019 21:45

Lulu Guinness I think would be a great bag for a teenager.

Not MK every other person has one now !!

Fstar · 21/01/2019 22:00

Agree coach or fossil, will last her a long time, good outlets but both have sales online too

pigsinarow · 21/01/2019 22:04

Did someone say an extra 20% - how?!

Agree Coach is too old for a 16 year old unfortunately.

brokenhead · 21/01/2019 22:11

Cambridge satchel ?

DKNY rucksack ?

twosoups1972 · 22/01/2019 11:11

holger she likes quite trendy clothing from places like Brandy Melville, Urban Outfitters, sometimes Top Shop.

She wants a neutral colour, probably tan, and in any case I don't think Coach have anything suitable in that colour in the sale.

We are near a Fenwicks so maybe I'll take her to have a look.

How about Longchamp ? they're still classy and youthful! within budget as well x

sansou · 22/01/2019 11:59

Coach SALE20 makes it £140 and under budget.

twosoups1972 · 22/01/2019 14:20

That's true sans but can't see anything in tan in the sale.

BlancheM · 22/01/2019 16:19

There were some tan/nude bags by Allsaints in my local TKmaxx reduced to £70 today, wonder if there're any online
Coach do a lot of 'young' designs nowadays, maybe an accessory to go on the bag you choose?

HolgerLowCarbingLoser · 22/01/2019 19:48

Ohh yes I forgot all about All Saints! Although I don’t think they do tan...

Longchamp is a good option too, and they will definitely do tan, or at least brown, bags. They had some lovely leather ones in the sale, but I don’t remember what colour.

Check the Outnet? If you look together you might find something that she likes, and if they’re doing an extra discount you can get things at a really great price.

HoF sale might also have something?

fashiondevotee · 22/01/2019 19:52

Kate Spade, Ted Baker, Michael Kors or Marc by Marc Jacobs.

twosoups1972 · 26/01/2019 17:52

We've been shopping today and I have better idea of what dd wants -

-Black
-Shoulder bag with comfortable straps that are long enough to sit on shoulder
-Possibly cross body strap
-a wider style rather than deep (tote style?)
-big enough to take a paperback book in

We saw a Ted Baker bag in JL that might fit the bill although it's above the price range:

Any other suggestions of something like this please?
