Handbag for dd's 16th birthday

twosoups1972 · 20/01/2019 12:25

Dd will be 16 soon and likes the idea of a handbag for a present. I love bags myself but have no idea what to get for her. I've suggested a cross-body style but she says she prefers a shoulder bag. She loves my Coach scout hobo bag!

Budget around £150. Any ideas please?

I like the bag you ordered.

LadyVox · 27/01/2019 09:43

I was coming to suggest Radley but I like the one you picked!

wentmadinthecountry · 27/01/2019 11:30

I like that.

BUT you've just cost me £158!! However, my new coach bag was a bargain and officially mid priced with 20% off so allowed according to my slightly dodgy rule about spending. I imagine I'll lose it the minute dd2 sees it though.

Violetroselily · 27/01/2019 12:03

That's a great bag OP, I hope she likes it

twosoups1972 · 27/01/2019 18:04

Thank you, do you think the MK one is nicer than the Ted Baker one I posted earlier?

OP posts:
Violetroselily · 27/01/2019 18:16

Yes I prefer the MK bag, I think it's a nicer shape

SenecaFalls · 27/01/2019 18:30

I also prefer the shape of the MK one. A bit more youthful, too, I think.

SammySays · 27/01/2019 18:36

I’d go: ted baker, Michael Kors or DKNY.

Neverunderfed · 27/01/2019 21:23

What's her style? Does it have to be designer? I've had some lovely custom made leather bags from Etsy.

pinkhousesarebest · 27/01/2019 21:45

I just bought my ds a Vanessa Bruno bag for her 14th, still the bag of choice in our part of France for teens. Though ridiculously overpriced for what is essentially a canvas bag.

HaveYouNamechangedForThis · 28/01/2019 12:15

OP, the MK one you've chosen is lovely and for a 16yo, I think it's definitely better Ted Baker one (which is lovely, but too old for a 16yo in style I think).

The only other one you might like to have a quick look at is the Ted Baker Olmia in black (sorry, can't do links!). However thinking on, that one is either hand-held or cross body strap, so doesn't have the traditional shoulder straps option. If she likes a shoulder bag then it won't do, but I still think it's a super bag, not to big not too small etc and it's a very cute shape, and smart yet casual styling so it'll go anywhere. Maybe someone else on the thread will find it helpful.

HaveYouNamechangedForThis · 28/01/2019 12:16

better than the Ted Baker one, I meant

HaveYouNamechangedForThis · 28/01/2019 12:19

Scratch my TB suggestion - just seen it's charcoal, not black. Sorry! The MK you have chosen looks perfect though so I think your search is over anyway Smile

Same ! Did we get the same one I wonder ? I got the Charlie oxblood

twosoups1972 · 29/01/2019 13:07

Just picked up the MK one - is is nice but absolutely huge! I had no idea it would be that big. Not sure she will like it, it will swamp her. Arrghh!

What do you think of this one:

They quite like big bags though don’t they ... makes them
Look small relative to their handbag apparently

I prefer the Michael Kors as I'm not a fan of divided bags. I like my bag to be one big hole 🤣. I'm just not usually a Michael Kors fan, but I think the one you already bought is the best of them all. Only you know your DD, though.

twosoups1972 · 29/01/2019 16:45

Think the MK one I posted is still too big. However I have found this:
www.fashionette.co.uk/michael-michael-kors-junie-md-hobo-bag-black

And also this Coach one from Selfridges which might be a better size:

That Coach is gorgeous and I think the shape (and the tie leather detail to the zip) makes it a younger style. Also it's wider than taller and has the optional cross body strap. I'd say it's a winner! You said she likes your Coach Hobo so obviously she likes the label. Some might think Coach is too old for 16 and overall I might agree but I think that bag probably is the exception due to its styling and shape. It looks younger in style than the structured Ted Baker one you saw upthread, for example.

I was going to say Coach Prairie but they can be a little fussy looking maybe for your DD's requirements, and they aren't shoulder strap. That Coach you've found there seems to tick all the boxes though!

twosoups1972 · 31/01/2019 11:18

Thank you, agree the Coach one is lovely and a better size but it's quite a lot over budget and there is nothing suitable in their sale. Think the MK Junie hobo I posted above is too big too.

HaveYouNamechangedForThis · 31/01/2019 12:28

If only she didn't want the shoulder strap! Grin as there's a black Ted Baker Olmia on House of Fraser. I have one, it's a lovely bag and roomy but not too big (or small) however it's hand-held or cross body strap.

Shame about the Coach Sutton. It is a lot of money for a 16yo and it would be awful if it got lost or stolen at that price especially.
