Do you think these shoes are horrendous?

I don't know what it is about me but I can't wear heels. Despite being in my late 40s, somehow I look like a kid wearing her mum's shoes. Flats don't look good on me because I am only 5.1". I am a size 10, probably a little podgy now after the excesses of the last few weeks, and I just look silly in delicate shoes. I pretty much wear boots all the time but I like wearing ankle trousers, and boots don't look good with those. I am therefore looking for a shoe that gives me height, but without looking like I'm wearing high heels. Would welcome opinions on these: www.amazon.co.uk/Fly-London-Yaz-Mousse-Womens/dp/B00J9C1Y6Y/ref=sr_1_3?psc=1&keywords=fly%2Blondon%2Byaz&th=1&tag=mumsnetforum-21&ie=UTF8&qid=1547567642&sr=8-3

Daniel ones are super fugly.

picklemepopcorn · 16/01/2019 08:39

Fly are great and really comfy- not those ones though! They do a cross over Mary Jane and a basic court shoe. I get complements on mine.

Socofy do similar shoes- some are wildly 'bohemian' but many are quite plain. Again, I'm getting complemented on mine.

Op, your first choice of shoe had an edge to it, and i think it would look better on than on the pic but fwiw i like the look of the shoe. If you were interested in that shoe then you have been guided here towards something more mainstream and generally acceptable. No harm in that, but you are veering more towards the shoe style you originally said you needed to avoid for fear of looking like a kid wearing your mum's shoes. Why not order the 1st choice and see what you think?

LooksBetterWithAFilter · 16/01/2019 09:37

Tbh I hate Fly shoes and boots but that’s for me. Loads of people wear them so not everyone hates them. I have tried to like them and tried them on and they are extremely comfort.
If they are what you’re looking fo then give them a try. Others may not like them but nobody is going to run screaming in horror from you.

mogtheexcellent · 16/01/2019 09:38

I also have problems wearing heels. I have a suede pair of black wedges from new look that are really comfy. Years old now but the ones a PP posted are similar.

1hello2hello · 16/01/2019 09:44

CrimeBuster You're welcome. I was tempted by the wine ones too but we're having a no spend January.

OP I'm admiring your good humour.

Brittanyspears · 16/01/2019 10:23

Fly are beyond the pale. Sorry

mejon · 16/01/2019 10:53

Good lord - the alternative suggestions here are far worse than the originals OP posted (which I like but wouldn't wear as I can't do heels). The ASOS lace-ups are like something Herman Munster would wear and the others - far too dainty and 'safe' or just plain ugly.

Luckily we're all different - if you like them OP, give them a try and bugger what anyone else thinks.

foxtiger · 16/01/2019 13:11

I like some Fly shoes, and I know exactly what you mean about them giving height without looking like high heels, but those ones are a bit plain for my taste. I love Fly Yunas, which are available in different colours at different times but there's pretty much always a black:

www.alltheshoes.co.uk/fly-london/fly-london-yuna.html

(and now I have seen that there are some silvery ones and am wondering how to raise some money in a hurry...)

higgyhog · 16/01/2019 14:17

I actually had a pair of the first ones going back a couple of years. I wore them for work with black opaque tights, they were comfortable and unobtrusive, admired a few times as being unusual and suited me better than something sensible from Clarks or similar.

picklemepopcorn · 16/01/2019 16:04

Look at fly Yasi, Yoni and yogo. Nicer.

BadMoodBoard · 16/01/2019 17:21

Those of you saying the Daniel ones are awful, do you mean the Fly Yuzo ones? Because I like them.Grin

Without getting into whether the other options suggested are nicer than my op or not, the issue is that they simply don't fit the bill. And the bill for me involves a 6cm height with total comfort for walking and without looking (and sounding) like I'm wearing high heels.

Don't get me wrong, I sometimes wear heels too, but only in the form of knee/ankle/calf boots and they're always block heels.

Skechers do a great wedge ankle boot in black.Could somebody do a link for me as I can't Blush
I like the Gabor wedge somebody suggested

Womble75 · 16/01/2019 18:12

I quite like these (ducks) www.simplybe.co.uk/shop/fly-london-yuzo-embellished-wedge-pump/ft519/product/details/show.action?pdBoUid=9186#colour:Black,size:
I'd wear them and I'm 43 and can't get on with heels.
These shoe boots are quite nice too - would look good with ankle length trousers

beanaseireann · 16/01/2019 18:21

Skechers Parallel Curtail boots - Sports Direct have them.
Very comfy. Not dissimilar to Fly.

Please could someone do a link to them for the OP.

Bluesheep8 · 16/01/2019 19:40

Oh my goodness. They are truly hideous, sorry op.

LadyOfTheCanyon · 16/01/2019 20:26

I don't want to get too psychoanalytical here OP, but why are you so insistent on needing the height? You're 5'1 and perfectly in proportion as far as I can see- I assume you wear petite ranges so trousers etc should be the right length for you whatever shoes you wear.
Wedge shoes look vaguely dreadful on everyone IMO. The only type I've seen look fairly trendy are platform brogues, but they're already a bit old hat.
Rock your natural height! Grin

EnglishPuffins · 16/01/2019 20:28

I definitely think most of the later suggestions are way worse that the OPs Confused

Processedpea · 16/01/2019 20:31

I quite like the fly shoes I have some red peep toes in similar style and they look better on than the photo suggests

LimpidPools · 16/01/2019 20:40

A lot of people on mumsnet hate Fly shoes OP.

I agree with foxtiger - lots of the later suggestions are much more conventional. (And make me think of twinsets and garden parties.)

I like the first pair you linked to, though not so much the second. They're not a new style, so people obviously are buying them!

I suspect your experience would be similar to higgyhog's - comfy and not particularly noticeable.

And a damn sight better than Hotter any day!!

wonkylegs · 16/01/2019 20:42

I'm 4'11 so get the need for a bit more height and struggle with good shoes to go with work trousers
I looked at wedges but I found as I've not the greatest legs they made me look more dumpy than I really am
I ended up buying these the other day in wine and I love them so comfy, really soft leather and they make me look polished with trousers even if they we're as high as I thought I needed.

Bluntness100 · 16/01/2019 20:47

Can you really not see it op, seriously do you look at them think, "ooh stylish"?

And Gabor are known for making old lady ugly shoes. So the John Lewis ones no better.
