Do you think these shoes are horrendous?

I don't know what it is about me but I can't wear heels. Despite being in my late 40s, somehow I look like a kid wearing her mum's shoes. Flats don't look good on me because I am only 5.1". I am a size 10, probably a little podgy now after the excesses of the last few weeks, and I just look silly in delicate shoes. I pretty much wear boots all the time but I like wearing ankle trousers, and boots don't look good with those. I am therefore looking for a shoe that gives me height, but without looking like I'm wearing high heels. Would welcome opinions on these: www.amazon.co.uk/Fly-London-Yaz-Mousse-Womens/dp/B00J9C1Y6Y/ref=sr_1_3?psc=1&keywords=fly%2Blondon%2Byaz&th=1&tag=mumsnetforum-21&ie=UTF8&qid=1547567642&sr=8-3

I don't like the fly shoes, but the John Lewis ones are good.

Yulebealrite · 15/01/2019 23:51

I’m going against the grain. I think they are lovely op.

No, sorry I’m lying. They are pretty hideous Grin

The JL ones are ok.

Cattus · 15/01/2019 23:54

Just go into John Lewis and have a really good scout around.

Fly shoes are so miserable, like a bad simulacrum of edginess.

NotStayingIn · 16/01/2019 00:03

Sweet lord, they are awful. Sorry OP! If you can't wear heels (no judgement, I can't either) you are way better off wearing flats that look fab and suit your style, then buying these granny heels. Don't buy them, they are hideous. x

PaulHollywoodsleftbollockhair · 16/01/2019 00:34

I love loads of Fly London shoes. They are comfortable without being frumpy.

How about these?
here

A lower wedge might be more practical and the lower vamp more flattering.

Shinesweetfreedom · 16/01/2019 00:35

Fucking vile

Elledorado · 16/01/2019 01:26

What about something like these: here.

Elledorado · 16/01/2019 01:32

And have you considered a block heel? I wear similar to this for work can walk all day in them: here

Jitters22 · 16/01/2019 01:39

I like Fly wedges and have a couple of pairs. The sole shape is pretty much standard across their range - it's just the uppers that differ.

I wear a lot of wedges / platforms - it's a way of gaining height but your foot is still relatively flat, not angled so you are bearing all the weight on the balls of your feet as you would with regular high heels.

As these go though, I think the uppers are pretty ugly. Fly (and others) do some much nicer ones. Maybe shop around a bit more?

PerspicaciaTick · 16/01/2019 01:41

The JL ones are vile.
M&S have some heeled loafers that might tick your boxes.

dellacucina · 16/01/2019 01:46

I also hate them. Sorry. The JL ones are ok.

As an aside, well done for handling the responses here with good grace! (I personally loled several times reading through!)

BadMoodBoard · 16/01/2019 06:35

My problem is that I want height and comfort. I get around this by wearing boots all the time but there are certain trousers that call for shoes. I would give the the JK Bennett shoes from JL a try but my size isn't available, and the Gabor ones I linked to are quite low really, only 3/4 cm high.

@Elledorado, the block heel shoes you have linked to, that's the sort of shoe that makes me look/feel silly.

The other pair, well, don't get me wrong, I'd wear it, but isn't it just as horrific as they ones I am was considering?

I work with a very stylish person who has a pair of these shoes and she looks great in them.

MrsHaaHoo · 16/01/2019 07:05

Try M&S they do mid and low wedges, so do pavers and for less than £90 in JL. Next have some low block heels too in different colours.

Elledorado · 16/01/2019 07:06

Why would the block heeled shoes make you feel silly? They arent delicate at all .. and they work really well with ankle length trousers. From the front view there is zero difference, it's only from the side that you see the heel and I guarantee they will look better than the wedges.

The wedges I linked to ... tbh arent my style but I like them more than the similar but fussier JL ones that you linked to sorry Blush.

Elledorado · 16/01/2019 07:13

Yes what about M&S shoe boots? Like:SHOE BOOTS

There are some lower options too if you search for shoe boots.

dontforgetbilly · 16/01/2019 07:16

I love the fly sole, it is so comfy.
I recently bought these shoes
www.danielfootwear.com/women-c2/yuzo-black-leather-embellished-wedge-pump-p96069
Not as comfy as their boots but still comfy.

Timmytoo · 16/01/2019 07:25

They look like they're sitting on platforms made from tractor tyres - good for stamping and self defense I suppose Grin

Pieceofpurplesky · 16/01/2019 07:28

I love Fly shoes. They look better on!

curlies · 16/01/2019 07:32

Crocs do some nice wedges surely they'd be comfortable too.

Do you think these shoes are horrendous?
Orchidflower1 · 16/01/2019 08:08

Yep op- the last ones are much nicer. The new look ones a pp linked are ok but don’t look very comfy( I wonder if the strap may rub) . With the last ones you’re getting decent quality too.

Truckingonandon · 16/01/2019 08:09

Some of these suggestions are almost as bad. The Daniel ones are bloody awful.

hugoagogo · 16/01/2019 08:19

It's weird I'm shorter than you and constantly on the hunt for boots to wear with my ankle trousers!? They just look a bit weird to me with shoes- too much of a gap I think.
And what sort of socks would you wear? Or God forbid pop socks? Or freezing ankles?Confused
