Thought I ought to delurk given I have read every one of these threads religiously and become slightly obsessed.

Thank-you for all the good work ladies and creating a slight obsession in our house with Max and Wax

Typical conversation in our house:

Me: Look at this amazing hat
DH: Why is this important?
Me: It is better than Brexit
DH: Fair point, show me the hat Grin

Now I like a handbag as much as the next woman but I really couldn't be arse changing them over every day. Maybe they have those pouch things you just swap over. I guess they only need a lippy, mobile (for Mumsnetting in the back of the limo) and a packet of Silk Cut....

DontCallMeCharlotte · 19/01/2019 11:42

*arsed - get with the programme Autocorrect

EatCrisps · 19/01/2019 14:45

Queen I hope there is no insinuation that her relationship with him is anything more than professional. I just think he's dishy!

Twisique · 19/01/2019 14:55

It would be nice if Land Rover gave a new car to the people PP hit as well. I wonder if the smaller less sturdy car is why they had injuries and the stronger Land Rover protected PP.

UrsulaPandress · 19/01/2019 14:56

I imagine he will have paid for the new vehicle. I don’t think the RF can accept freebies.

user1457017537 · 19/01/2019 15:05

If it is a leased car it may well be a vehicle loaned until the other one is repaired. PP will then keep the loan car. I should think the Rotal family get a very good deal from Land Rover as they all seem to drive them.

itswinetime · 19/01/2019 15:10

The royals can't accept freebies but I think there are certain work arounds (such as the duchess paying cost for dresses as oppose to shop price). Not sure how it works with cars is he provided with one as part of ongoing security management?

I imagine that the size of the Land Rover played a part also the other car was the one moving at speed (not blaming I know they weren't speeding). That tends to make injuries worst. And I imagine but maybe I have watched to many political thrillers the royal cars have some extra safety features which may have played a part to.

As for the other family I'm sure they are being well looked after by the powers that be. Be silly not to if they decide to sell their story later thats their choice but if that story involves them being car less and abandoned while DoE had a new car within 24hrs things will get nasty with the press I think.

Jiggins · 19/01/2019 15:13

The Queen has been so stoic over the years; accepting his behaviour.

The Queen is a pragmatist and I'd imagine she set down ground rules early on in the marriage about what was and wasn't acceptable regarding his 'friendships' with other women.

Jiggins · 19/01/2019 15:15

Regarding the ageing thing, I think Kate and Meghan both look better now than they did ten years ago. Same can definitely not be said for their respective spouses. The Windsors aren't an aesthetically blessed family.

user1457017537 · 19/01/2019 15:18

Not sure why the DofE getting a new car has anything to do with the other parties involved in the accident. Some insurances allow for a similar loan car in the event of an accident. LR even loan you a car if yours is in for a service and you have an agreement with them.

Practicaly it doesn't if this was anyone else involved in the crash it would be sorted out between the parties insurance depending on the level of cover as you say. But it isn't it's the DoE and if the other parties are left car less possibly unable to get work ect from an accident that appears to have been his fault the press will have a field day I imagine there will be someone regularly in contact with the family to make sure things like that don't happen but that's pure guess work on my part.

It has been reported that he is back behind the wheel and driving again.

itswinetime · 19/01/2019 17:04

I'd be surprised if he is out on the main roads so soon but I guess until guilt is proven he is allowed to do as any other driver.

To be honest if he is feeling up to driving after a crash like that I'm surprised the whiplash alone I'm not sure I'd recover that quickly and I'm a long way off 97!

Jiggins · 19/01/2019 17:05

I seriously doubt he's back behind the wheel already. If he is determined to keep on driving however he should limit it to the private royal estates where he can do least harm.

desertgirl · 19/01/2019 17:12

If it was anyone else, they would be back driving (unless, at his age, his family objected). People coming out of side roads they shouldn’t, whether distracted, dazzled, or whatever does happen and does not always lead to disqualification. He shouldn’t get special treatment but he doesn’t need worse treatment either.

thisshitgotreal · 19/01/2019 17:13

The DM has pics of him behind the wheel again. Pretty shocking imo!

desertgirl · 19/01/2019 17:13

(Though if it was my dad I would be telling him to hang up his car keys sharpish!)

Jiggins · 19/01/2019 17:18

I've had a peek at the DM.

Back behind the wheel. If those photos were taken today, well it just about sums up the arrogance of our supposed 'betters'. He's not going to let pesky things like putting people in hospital and nearly being 100 years old get in the way of doing things he enjoys doing.

Selfish git.

thisshitgotreal · 19/01/2019 17:18

Agree 100% Jiggins - terribly arrogant

AdaColeman · 19/01/2019 17:21

According to press reports Phil has a decades long history of bumps and prangs in the area around the estate, so let's hope he takes more care from now on, poor old codger.

itswinetime · 19/01/2019 17:26

It's tricky but he hasn't had is licensed removed that we know of. So he has as much right to drive as anyone else. You would have hoped he would have taken stock of things but unless he is found guilty of driving without due care and attention (I think that's the charge) he isn't doing anything wrong. Anything different to what any of us would do after a crash. Lots of people struggle to give up the independence of driving we have been through it with various family members we are just seeing this one because of his public position.

MakeItAmazing · 19/01/2019 17:30

A reporter asked Anne if there was an update on Philip and she said not since I've been in there and pointed to the building she'd just left.

Jiggins · 19/01/2019 17:32

I don't think any 97 year old should be driving. I can see it would be upsetting for many older drivers to hang up their car keys for the last time but Philip won't need to start navigating the complicated world of public transport. He can just summon a driver or he can keep his driving to the roads of a private estate.

Clionba · 19/01/2019 17:47

Yes, I saw the pictures - Philip was out in his new Ranger Rover today. No seat belt on, public road.
