Fly London Boots

I am on my feet a lot and usually have to buy cheap £20 boots which usually last me the year if I'm lucky before they fall apart. I've been given £80 and can put £10 possibly £20 at a very big push but would prefer to keep it as little as possible. I really want to put this money towards a decent pair of boots and have always coveted a pair of purple Fly boots and have been looking to see if I could afford a pair of calf length ones in the sales but can't seem to find a pair in the £80 budget.

I wonder if anyone has seen a pair for my budget or know of a voucher that would bring them into my budget.

Many thanks.

Amazon have them at the top of your budget for about £100?

wafflyversatile · 08/01/2019 02:05

What size?

DesertHippy · 08/01/2019 02:14

Sorry I'm a 5.

Yep! I've seen them at the top of the budget.I'm hoping against hope that I can find them cheaper as I'll have to squeeze the housekeeping to find the extra £20.

These look purple to me but they're described as navy: www.rubyshoesdayhebdenbridge.co.uk/womens-shoes-c4/womens-ankle-boots-c12/fly-london-phil-low-wedge-ankle-boot-p3486

DesertHippy · 08/01/2019 03:26

@thefirstmrsdewinter, thank you very much. I would prefer calf length as I am outside a lot in all weathers and am on crutches so am forever bashing my self or splashing water up in the rain so would like the protection the longer boot gives me.

I suppose I am going to have either lump the extra money and not be so tight or forgo my Fly dreams.

Anyone know of any similar styles but good quality boots that are cheaper?

Ploppymoodypants · 08/01/2019 03:29

My Fly boots lasted 11 years! Wore them most days in winter. Did have soles and heels redone a couple of times. But well worth the investment (I know that doesn’t help right now)

IWannaSeeHowItEnds · 08/01/2019 10:54

You could try the children's range - go up to a size 5 and probably cheaper than adults.

thefirstmrsdewinter · 08/01/2019 12:55

'I would prefer calf length' - of course you would op, you've only gone and put it in your original request. Grin Reading comprehension fail on my part.

RatRolyPoly · 08/01/2019 13:05

Have you tried Rocket Dog? I find their styling is quite similar to some of the Fly stuff but they're much cheaper given the sale that's on. They're not the same quality I'm sure (it's been a while since I owned any but in the past I've had Fly and Rocket Dog), but they're perfectly wearable.

GVmama · 08/01/2019 13:06

Treat yourself! They'll probably last five years, so price per wear will be much better than your cheap boots.

RatRolyPoly · 08/01/2019 13:06

Actually OP, are these the Fly boots you're after? £100 and free delivery on this link.

DesertHippy · 08/01/2019 23:32

@Ploppymoodypants that's what I'm hoping by investing in some good boots.

@IWannaSeeHowItEnds that's a very cummimg plan. I'll go and look and see what I can find.

@thefirstmrsdewinter you are forgiven as you were trying to help.

@RatRolyPoly thanks for the heads up. I've had a look and they are a better price and the Biker boot isn't too bad but I do love the sole and heel of the Fly as they are easier on my feet than the solid sole and heel and I love the purple but I will keep that in my back pocket.

And those were the ones I'm coveting but we've just hit a bloody road block. The car has had to go into the garage tonight something to do with the breaks Sad Angry so I have no extra money to spend and just have the £80 and no more. Seriously pissed off.

Sent you a PM, OP.

Also being stalked by Fly footwear now.

HickoryDickoryDot · 09/01/2019 00:26

Bells Shoes thst RatRolyPoly has £10 off if you sign up to the newsletter, would make them £90? I had a good look around and that seems to be the best price.

Sorry to hear about your car trouble!

DesertHippy · 09/01/2019 00:50

So, I've done a search for Fly kids boots and all I can come up with is these beauties but they don't go up to 5

I really think I'm going to have to give up Sad

These ones on ebay if you can find £15, they're brand new. If not there's a few worn but good condition ones you could bid on? PPs said they're very hard wearing so second hand might not be a bad option?

Ploppymoodypants · 09/01/2019 08:17

As I put my lovely fly boots on this morning, I remembered that I bought them second hand from eBay. But barely used. From an ebay shop that sells returned or barely used shoes like fly and doc martens, red or dead etc. They were £40 and are on second winter with me and in tip top condition.

So look on eBay. Might take a few weeks to find perfect pair. But bettervused Fly than brand new £30 ones. Plus you will still have change for car drama ( or another treat) x

Ploppymoodypants · 09/01/2019 08:18

This is second pair of fly boots. Had first pair for 21st birthday (2001) Chucked them out in 2016, current pair looking to last as well.

Ploppymoodypants · 09/01/2019 08:21

These are listed right now, nice as well.

Doesn't Schuh do a new customer discount when you sign up to their newsletter? Or do you know someone with a student card - pretty sure they discount for them too.

Branleuse · 09/01/2019 09:34

be careful if you buy second hand, as the old style soles were not watertight.
Id squeeze the housekeeping and buy new in the sale if you can to make sure they have the new style soles

ThanksForAllTheFish · 09/01/2019 09:41

Ive got 2 pairs and don’t ware them half as much as I thought I would. They are not great in heavy rain and constantly need reproofing or I get wet feet. They are super comfortable as far as boots go. Also watch the sizing, I find they come up big. I’m almost always a 6 in shoes but fit a 5 best in fly boot. I have one in a size 6 (bought online) and I need thick socks in or they feel too big. My other pair are a 5 and fit like a glove but I need to ware thin socks with them and if my skinny feet were any wider they would feel too tight.

Maybe they are wide made or something and that’s why I need to size down rather than use my actual size.

Branleuse · 09/01/2019 10:33

@thanksforallthefish then youve probably got the ones with the old style soles that used to wick water in because the inner felt sole was visible from the outside. My pair of the old style boots were fucked after 3 months. They had so many complaints. They told me mine were fashion boots and not designed for rain.

Fortunately they have taken heed, improved the design, and the new soles are much better

Old style soles look like this and should be avoided

New style soles are like this

THe pirices are constantly changing on Amazon so track them over the course of a week and doubtless one will come into your price range.

Also keep looking on Amazon’s WAREHOuse deals where they pop their returns both new and barely worn- they often turn up half price there.

Oxygen shoes are similar in style and in your price range. They have an outlet bit on EBay.
