I took the plunge yesterday and had my first botox session.

I thought it might be useful to others thinking about it to post some progress pictures as the effects set in.

@NOTthepinkranger Please don't have Botox next week. At 28 you really don't need it.

I'm in my 50s and have been having Botox for about 5 years. On me it takes about 10 days for the effects to show.

AhoyDelBoy · 29/12/2018 09:25

Botox at 28? Sorry, but that’s ridiculously unnecessary unless you’ve been smoking since you were 4 Confused.

NOTthepinkranger · 29/12/2018 09:41

I’ve actually got horrendous frown lines due to issues I had with my facial nerves when I was younger but you judge away hon

AhoyDelBoy · 29/12/2018 09:52

Hon? Hmm says it all really. As you were.

IAmAlwaysLikeThis · 29/12/2018 09:54

I was considering getting botox in my 20s. Now at nearly 40, I’m so glad I didn’t because I have happily stepped off the ‘must look young and fresh’ mindfuck train and I feel actually happy with how I look.

Not judging anyone but it’s not an actual necessity for anyone.

Veterinari · 29/12/2018 09:57

Oh good it didn’t take long for the judgement to arrive did it? Hmm

Thanks OP this is really useful - I just hadn’t my first session. Stupidly didn’t take before pictures but have def noticed a difference, 1 week in.

IAmAlwaysLikeThis · 29/12/2018 09:58

vet you know when someone has a different opinion, it doesn’t mean they’re ‘judging’?

God I really want to just take the word ‘judge’ and throw it out the window, people use it for fucking every circumstance and it’s become meaningless

NOTthepinkranger · 29/12/2018 09:58

I called you hon due to your judgey reaponse, I’ve never used hon in my life but you deserved it.

FixTheBone · 29/12/2018 10:04

As a doctor I weigh things up all the time as risk benefit.

Cosmetic Botox.

Medical Benefit - 0
Potential Risk - >0

BifsWif · 29/12/2018 10:05

I have botox - it’s made such a difference.

I saw the effects after ten days like a PP said.

AhoyDelBoy · 29/12/2018 10:06

How is saying ‘unless you’ve been smoking since you were four?’ judging someone? Honestly, how? It was meant jokingly as I honestly can’t see how someone could need Botox at 28. You didn’t mention issues with facial nerves which is kinda relevant really.

AhoyDelBoy · 29/12/2018 10:09

Yep^ COULD NOT AGREE MORE. I think it’s time I left mumsnet. The stupidity on here astounds me.

CantChoose · 29/12/2018 10:15

Also a doctor and I'm considering having Botox. Each to their own :)

Thisismyhappyface · 29/12/2018 10:27

Remind me not to start a botox thread again Hmm

flintfoxy · 29/12/2018 10:38

I've no idea why it attracts such vitriol on here. I love botox and think your thread might help a lot of people considering it Smile

Gunpowder · 29/12/2018 10:44

Grin bah hah! AIBU has nothing on some S&B threads.

I’m interested to see how it develops so thank you for posting OP.

NOTthepinkranger I don’t know about the nerve damage implications but I am very pleased I didn’t have Botox in my late twenties when I thought my frown lines were horrendous. I think it sort of makes everyone look like they are in their mid 30s which is good if you are older, but 28 - not so much.

IAmAlwaysLikeThis · 29/12/2018 10:58

gun why is it good to look mid 30s?

What’s wrong with looking mid 40s? or mid 50s?

christmasfoof · 29/12/2018 11:04

I had Botox in my twenties! I felt I needed it, had been smoking since 13. I did a blog post about it on my long forgotten blog Blush there's some photos on it if anyone is interested in seeing before and after.

Twistering · 29/12/2018 11:24

@Christmasfoof just out of interest did it improve after last pic at day 9? I’ve had Botox for years (currently missing it as pregnant!) and there’s been a few times I’ve panicked after 10 days ish as it’s wonky/looks solid etc but it’s always been fine a week later. Just takes some time to settle.

So also @Thisismyhappyface don’t panic if it seems too much/you don’t like it at first as can take a while to settle. However, it really is all about the skill of whoever does it, so if not happy in the end, don’t necessarily be put off, just have to find someone who gets what you want and you love their (ideally very natural) results. I have paid £££ for a Harley Street knobhead and hated it, so isn’t just about that either.

And ignore all the negativity, if it makes you happy do it, makes me feel loads better and is literally not hurting anyone.

Also happy to feedback based on my experiences...have had under eye and (very subtle) cheek fillers too previously (for volume loss, not to look like some of the youngsters!)

winsinbin · 29/12/2018 13:05

I don’t think you can put an age on this. I’m in my 50s and have no wrinkles or lines bar a few crows feet which I quite like. I first had Botox at 55 to lift my droopy eyes and I love it. My DCs however are in their 20s and already have quite pronounced 99 lines so might well want to use Botox soon. We all age differently and put different values on our appearance.

nancybelle · 29/12/2018 13:11

Mine always kicks in 5 days after, just a much fresher look like I’ve had a good nights sleep. Makes me laugh when people (who have never seen me without it) say that I don’t need it. Definitely find a practitioner who favours a lighter touch.

Ollivander84 · 29/12/2018 13:13

I has Botox last year at 33. Severe pain before spinal surgery had given me unnatural (not from ageing) lines and you could see the pain on my face. After the op I wanted rid so I had azzalure, had it twice and due for some more soon

Thisismyhappyface · 29/12/2018 13:28

Thanks to those who have posted helpfully!

I'm well aware that not everyone agrees with botox, but as it is my face, it's not really any of their concern Hmm

I had 3 areas done, and I'm starting retin-a to try to reduce the lines that are already etched in.

I'm quite happy with my face in general, but 2 primary aged children, full time work, PG study in the evening and house building have left me looking as knackered as I feel.

Hoping that in 2019 I can undo some of 2018s damage!
