@user1457017537 at no point did I say I thought it was right that none of them works. It was just a suggestion as to the logic of who takes on what in the royal family.

Sorry Queen I apologise. I just wonder what they do with their time.

QueenOfTheAndals · 23/12/2018 07:56

Some great Sophie outfits in that link @IPromiseIWontBeNaughty. I especially love the shot of her and Maxima. Everyone always looks so happy to meet Max - even the usually-dour Duke of Kent was grinning from ear to ear!

@user1457017537 it's a mystery! Even the "hard-working" royals only do a few engagements a week so I'm not sure what they do the rest of the time.

The last pic in Curly's link upthread of Princess Charlotte in her lovely red coat and Mary-Jane's.... She is just so cute! I'm not so keen on some of George's formal get-up's but I do love Charlotte's wardrobe.

QueenOfTheAndals · 23/12/2018 08:03

Yes @EmGee I'm very glad she isn't always in pink from head to toe! Never seen any photos of Charlotte in trousers but I'm sure she must wear them off-duty.

EmGee · 23/12/2018 08:04

Queen I guess they indulge in their hobbies (painting, carriage riding, riding, keep fit, gardening and what-not!). They must also spend quite a lot of time planning the next engagement, no? Especially the women and what to wear. Shouldn't think the men spend much time though!

Spudlet · 23/12/2018 08:11

Well, they need to plan their engagements for one - they might not be booking their train tickets, but they'll be briefed on who they'll meet, where they'll go etc. Not that I'm suggesting that takes all their time, but I'm just saying, an hour's visit to a soup kitchen or wherever isn't just an hour's work, there will have been various bits of prep work to be done as well.

Parker231 · 23/12/2018 08:12

Thank you for the pictures of the Philips/Tindall children - they are in a much better position than William and Harry’s children. Close to the inner circle of the RF but without titles and royal responsibilities.

itswinetime · 23/12/2018 08:14

I think the idea is to change charity's yearly but yes there still will be lots of small one that are left out I'm not sure what having a royal patron even inactive brings in in terms of donations I wonder if actually it's not as much as you think. I dont think i could name the patrons of the charities I donate to.

Yes Anne and Sophie are going no where yet although I wonder if they will be a keen to do as much once the Queen is gone they both seem very close to her (from
Pictures/interviews). I'm not saying they will disappear when Charles takes over but I wonder if they will want to be as present anne especially of is 68 that's all speculation though I know only time will tell.

Back on topic I like Sophie's early stuff but lately I'm not so keen it all seems very boxy maybe I'm not sure her older stuff though is great.

So here's a break down of a royal Christmas from a former chefs full roast dinner then a evening buffet with turkey ribs ect! I know Christmas is a time for food but after a roast im all about the pringles an the chocolate in the evening not another roast!

ElspethFlashman · 23/12/2018 08:41

Well the Queens schedule is something like Morning = Red Boxes/Corrsspondance
Early Afternoon = Receiving Ambassadors etc
Afternoon Proper = Engagement

That's most days of the year bar weekends. So that's a busy schedule.

Charles has a busy one too, as he has boxes too and does more travelling with it.

I suspect Edward has quite a lot of DofE meetings but we never see all that. He and Sophie travel a hell of a lot to the Commonwealth. I imagine their kids have been at boarding school for years at this point which makes it easier.

Andrew busies himself in trade. We have no idea what that entails but it is his niche and it may be more important than we give him credit for.

Honestly I can account for most of the older ones. It may not be a 9-5 but you can see there's enough to do each week.

I have absolutely no idea what William and Harry do on a weekly basis. Harry at least did a tour and then went to Africa (massively underreported as he was alone). And they're doing a tour next year.

But outside that, I'm honestly not sure how they fill their time.

AhoyDelBoy · 23/12/2018 08:43

Me too itswinetime couldn’t stomach another roast dinner after one at lunch time! Christmas night is all about the leftovers surely? One good thing about Royal life would be not having to think of and prepare the food! Just having a delicious meal served up, bliss! I wanted to go out this year for Christmas lunch as it is just me, my DP and our DD but most places are around $280 a head. I think that includes ‘all you can drink’ though which no doubt my DP would take FULL advantage of (I can’t as I’m BF) leaving me as sober driver and main baby wrangler Xmas Confused. That aspect aside we can’t afford or justify that price for one meal!

queenofarles · 23/12/2018 08:45

I found this pretty Tory burch dress and thought it's the dress DoC wore to the Queen's lunch. But upon seeing it IRL it's not, this fabric is heavier and embossed. I'm still not convinced she wore that old Stella Mc dress ,

AhoyDelBoy · 23/12/2018 08:53

Clionba those pearls sound amazing! ✨

AhoyDelBoy · 23/12/2018 08:57

I love that yellow dress Kate is wearing in the photo Spudlet shared of William holding George. He really was a dear little baby!

CrookedMe · 23/12/2018 09:01

Well that was the loveliest, most polite takedown I've ever seen on a thread. I too would prefer to stick to the spirit of the thread rather than insinuations and constant reminders of who's 'in' and who isn't.

Clionba · 23/12/2018 09:03

AhoyDelBoy they do - Reg (not his real name) says that the pearls and diamonds are the finest he's ever seen. They often like pieces re worked, ie changed from a stud earring to a drop, and vice versa. He made a choker into bracelets for one lady, and they take jewels from pieces and add them to others.
I only book him in for appointments to carry on the conversation! (not true, no dentist ever does that.... Wink)

beanaseireann · 23/12/2018 09:29

I think Spudlet's comments '......two small sugar and tinsel crazed loons and a baby........we all know how good small children are at infiltrating the defences of guest bedrooms and the ungodly hours at which they rise at the best of times....' were brilliant.
Spudlet you are talking about the future King and his siblings - off with your head !!!

Can you imagine 6am Christmas morning the pleadings by George and Charlotte- 'Mummy, Daddy why can't we go in and show Uncle Harry and Auntie Megan what Father Christmas ( in our house Santa) has brought us ? Uncle Harry said last night he was dying to see what we'd get. Come on Charlotte. Race you there.'

CurlyWurlyTwirly · 23/12/2018 09:39

I’ve always wondered whether Carole & Michael stay at Anmer too and do a normal lunch with George, Charlotte and Louis, and perhaps Pippa, husband & baby Arthur.
Also would the nanny Maria sit down to lunch with them as well.
It must be so wierd having “a staff member” who is basically part of your family; ie raising your children.

Clionba · 23/12/2018 09:39

There are great passages in "Ma'am Darling" about how Princess Margaret spent her days. I read recently that Kate likes days with Pippa - they do gym workouts and pilates, have a healthy lunch, then beauty treatments. I suspect some online clothes perusal also.
They all go on holiday. A lot.

CurlyWurlyTwirly · 23/12/2018 09:44

@Elspeth
Does the Queen not have red boxes on the weekend. That’s a relief!
I saw a scene on the Crown where the King told Princess Elizabeth to Tuen the pile of papers upside down, as all the important stuff was buried at the bottom!
I wonder if Prince Charles gets to look at the boxes too. Surely he needs to be up to speed....

WipsGlitter · 23/12/2018 09:45

I think one year the Middletons were at Amner.

So K and W did the church thing and then went home for lunch.

I do wonder about Zara, does her husband never say actually can we do something with my side of the family for once. Same with Autumn. Isn't she American? They never seem to go there

ElspethFlashman · 23/12/2018 09:46

I remember Victoria Beckham decided it would be highly practical to bring the Nanny on honeymoon so they could have some baby free time.

What she didn't realise was that the Nanny would end up basically being a third wheel on their honeymoon. Conversation at dinner was a bit of a chore!

As much as you want to sat they're "part of the family", there are times when you just want it to be..... family.
