Hi!
I'm going to be spending Christmas day hosting a large group including a man I'm in a very new relationship with.
I'd bought a stunning dress on eBay but now it's just too much ( green sequins, I'll try and wear it to one of many parties next week)
Anyway, it now means I have nothing to wear for the day.
I want to look not too try hard but at the same form a bit special.
My very much younger sister will be with us too and she's super glam, very sexy and will pull out all the stops.
I don't want to be overdone, we have very different style but I also don't want to be frumpy mum/cook/frazzled host.
My shape is very tricky to dress.
I'm out of shape due to disability so...
I'm five feet tall, very curvy, big bum, unpretty large tummy, beefy upper arms, broad shoulders...
Had my colours done so am a warm autumn. I have broad shoulders and v neck style suits me best.
I'm about 9.5 stone which is a lot for my height. I should be a twelve but I'm slim boned so mostly wear tens as many twelves swamp me. So it needs to be a forgiving ten!
A dress would be nice but a gorgeous top would do as I have many many skirts and jeans!
I have a Christmas sweater but it's very blokey and I've already worn it to death!
Hopefully not a lost cause?!
Any ideas gratefully received!

V neck cashmere cardigan worn as a jumper. With a leather skirt or good jeans.

An ex once told me that sequins/beads look spiky and feel jaggy, but if I wore something fluffy or soft looking it made him want to snuggle up to me.

TheChristmasBear · 16/12/2018 01:16

this with the top few buttons open to create a v. It’s cropped so will be fine for your height and has 3/4 sleeves which will help create illusion of wais t.

Thank you Christmasbear what a lovely idea and very easy too hopefully! I'll check out cardiac tomorrow. I have nice ones but wear them to work Grin

Cross post.

CherryPavlova yes wrap dress is good, being short they often gape on me so I end up having to sew or add a pin. If i put cami or something underneath it just goes frumpy again. Maybe I need a petite range!
I have a lovely shorts jumpsuit actually, with sleeves. Black floral from Zara. I always get compliments when I wear it so maybe I'll try that or one similar

Ooh that dress is lovely but I really don't suit anything below kneww, should have said, very big calf muscles! Just on knee is slightly more flattering,

How are you with off the shoulder stuff?

I’m a similar size to you and will be wearing a short skirt, black opaque and a fluffy black off the shoulder jumper.

retainertrainer · 16/12/2018 11:47

This. Hides the stomach as well. Fabulous earrings.

Please help me find something cool, understated and a bit sexy. No problem!

retainertrainer that's really beautiful. where from?

OP posts:
dragonflyflew · 16/12/2018 13:00

justilou1 I do do leopard print a lot, have a dress and a lovely cardie but I also wear these to work a lot so would just feel a bit 'ordinary' now!

It’s only from new look and it’s currently reduced.

Those cardigans TheChristmasBear linked to are gorgeous. I think you should definitely go with one of those (there's a black sparkly one which is perfect for Christmas day)!!! With a nice flattering skirt.

halfwitpicker · 16/12/2018 15:54

That red dress is gorgeous, more doll

ChristianGreysAnatomy · 16/12/2018 16:01

There’s a whistles dress - black, cheetah-ish spots. V neck, loose elbow length sleeves. Very forgiving shape. I wore mine for the first time last night and it’s the exact right balance between too much and not enough. Love it.

dragonflyflew · 16/12/2018 20:32

HumourlessFeminist stunning!
