Tom Ford black orchid perfume

How would you describe it? I already have white patchouli which I love, but fancy trying black orchid as it sounds like the kind of fragrance I like. I like warm spicy ones- think clinique aromatics, Liz Earle botanical essence no 15, Angel. And does it last? I really need one that lasts.

Bumping for descriptions as I need to let DP know if I'd like it for Christmas

It’s nice and won’t alienate anyone the way Angel and Aromatics can. I think Tom Ford likes sterile and severe too much for this fragrance to be as big and warm as it could’ve been. I hope that makes sense?

It does last. I probably wouldn’t waste a Christmas present on it, but I am only one person giving feedback because nobody else did.

If you want something that lasts, maybe consider Lancome La Vie Est Belle? I know it’s mass market, but it is warm and comfy and big like the ones you mentioned liking.

Bluesheep8 · 15/12/2018 11:08

Thank you for giving your opinion. I do like the sound of it, from what I've read and I do love white patchouli so I'm going to give it a go I think. I will also check out the lancome one you mention. I've never looked at that and I think it might be because the advert for it with Julia Roberts gurning smugly all the way through it may have put me off!!

I love and have white patchouli but did not like black orchid at all. But also absolutely despise Angel so we may not have the same taste.

Bluesheep8 · 15/12/2018 13:25

Thank you for replying. I think I'm intrigued by it as I read somewhere that it still has patchouli in (it's the patchouli element of ALL perfumes that I love) and that the patchouli is not sweetened/softened by white flowers like it is in white patchouli iyswim...hoping that someone who likes and wears it comes along to tell me what they like about it and if it does have patchouli in

My DH wears the men's black orchid and it's
Lovely.

I didnt realise they did a ladies.

Im going to try that next
Time I'm in John Lewis

TruffleShuffles · 15/12/2018 15:56

I wear it and you can smell the patchouli in it. I find it heavier and spicier than white patchouli, it’s more of an evening perfume. It lasts forever on me, I have never had a perfume that lasts longer. I can smell it on my bed sheets the next morning if I’ve worn it the night before but I know perfumes last differently on different peoples skin. If you like white patchouli I would say you would also like black orchid.

As far as I’m aware britney it’s just a unisex perfume, there is no men’s and women’s version. I have a close male friend who also wears it.

Twistedinknots · 15/12/2018 16:09

Its very wearable but as with all Tom ford its loud, brash and unapologetic.
Its linear too.

itsbritneybiatches · 15/12/2018 16:17

It is unisex! I had no idea!

I've just been in Boots and the assistant said it was unisex.

To me it smells like a men's fragrance
But that could be because I associate it with my husband.

Ive sprayed it on myself to see if it grows
On me as a women's but I don't think it will.

I really want to try the "fucking fabulous" variant but nowhere seems to stock it.

Bluesheep8 · 15/12/2018 16:18

Thanks everyone. truffle that's EXACTLY what I was hoping to hear! And yes, I've heard that men wear it too....

OP posts:
Bluesheep8 · 15/12/2018 16:19

twisted what do you mean by linear, in this context please?

emsyj37 · 15/12/2018 16:21

I wear White patchouli and Angel too and I have Velvet Orchid which you might like?

PeevedOfPortishead · 15/12/2018 16:41

I love it - but bear in mind it was given to me by a friend who loathed it... It's a lot of £££ to drop on something divisive!

Haffiana · 15/12/2018 17:02

Try before you buy. I like it, my son wears it occasionally and my sister hates it.

Mind you, I personally detest La Vie est Belle. I cannot even bear to stand near someone wearing it, and I also think that Angel smells of rotting fruit.

BaconAndAvocado · 15/12/2018 17:15

I LOVE La Vie Est Belle and Angel is lovely and so long lasting.

Lidl are doing some excellent dupes of them atm.

Twotabbycats · 15/12/2018 17:37

I have this and love it but I just went for a sniff and can't work out why! I don't find the patchouli particularly strong. In general I agree with PPs who have said it's intense, slightly woody and masculine and definitely an evening perfume. It lasts well on me.

If you want something intense but slightly different I can recommend Jo Loves Red Truffle 21.

wishingyouluck · 15/12/2018 17:41

I have worn it for about 5 years and love it!!

thebigmaniswatching · 15/12/2018 17:43

I wanted to love it but it gave me a headacheAngry

LucheroTena · 15/12/2018 19:02

It’s lovely, just a small squirt perfume though.

LadyOfTheCanyon · 15/12/2018 19:59

I find Black Orchid an odd one as I should love it, based on the ingredients. As a caveat I do like white patchouli a lot.

However, BO is what I call a "smoker's perfume." It is SO big and bold and one note and in your face that I can only assume that the people who wear it are nasally challenged in some respect. If there are people out there who wear just a dab of this then I salute you because I haven't come across a delicate whiff of this at all.

Donning my massively judgey pants as well, I see it as a scent that peaked about 5 years ago, so when I do smell it, I'm vaguely nostalgic for the screamingly camp boss thatI had in 2013.

Velvet Orchid is a lot more subtle, on my opinion.

BentNeckLady · 15/12/2018 20:02

I like it but find it too strong. I prefer the Perfume Parlour dupe which is a bit less harsh.

The tobacco and vanilla dupe is lovely too.

Twistedinknots · 15/12/2018 20:23

@bluesheep

Linear in a fragrance means it doesn't develop or evolve.

Although I like this and (Tobacco Vanille more) I could not stick with a whole bottle of either because of this.

There are many great reputable scent sampling online retailers who sell different quantities.
It works out a hell of a lot cheaper than ending up with a perfume that you or your partner can't stand.
That is of course if you don't get addicted to sampling....

dudsville · 15/12/2018 22:21

I was given a bottle about 6 years ago. I thought it smelled of too many over ripe tropical fruit and flowers in the hottest part of the midday summers' sun. I passed it on to someone who loved it.

PouchofDouglas · 15/12/2018 22:22

I don’t like it on me. Other people do. I prefer Liz Earle 15

TheChristmasBear · 16/12/2018 01:29

Loved it at first but tired of it quickly.

It’s like giving everything a good rub down with hand sanitizer then burning incense on top.
