Lovers of Parisian style and fashion with a conscious mindset to our wardrobes. Occasionally we pretend this is a proper Salon of the non-beauty kind.

The Marni trousers also get my vote. I just love that look.

Never tried anything from Marni and always lurked at a few things on eBay, but as I never been sure on the fit or sizing I never took the plunge. On my to do list is to try a few things when I am near one or wonder in a tkmaxx see if I am lucky.
The oversized cardigan is staying. The fabric composition is lacking quality tbh but has good weight. but as that is outerwear I do not plan to wash it much. Will be worn over shirts or jumpers.

Today is a long day with lots of train journey up and down the country for work. A bit wet too. Midi irregular high waisted grey skirt from Stories, light mustard cashmere jumper tucked in black tights and black ankle boots and on top of all that a big black parka with a massive hood to keep me dry.

banivani · 04/02/2019 15:40

I've looked a little at Marni stuff on Swedish Ebay (Tradera) but people can't describe clothes worth a rat's arse there so hard to take the plunge.

I just bought a pair of black wool trousers off Tradera from a Danish designer called Tina Casmose, who seems to have first found God and then become a vegan and left the consumerist scene so it's hard to fins info about the clothes. She had a lot of ethos in her design apparently but the picture of the trousers was a bit rubbish so I'm taking a chance here, based on a "how small can a danish L be" mentality. ;) I got them for about 140 incl p&p so if they don't fit I can donate them and not feel bad. No measurements given.

All the talk about clothes has led to Facebook (who is watching) giving me a bunch of directed ads. Today it led to a shop/brand called Avavav, from designers who used to work for/who founded Monki and Weekday. "Inspired by the craftsmen in Florence" or something a bit pretentious. Some silk and drapey things. Sadly a lot of dry-clean only - very Firenze, that too! No size guide, so I'm not interested in shopping. Cop on, online retailers.

Love the sound of your outfit, Red. :)

quirkychick · 04/02/2019 16:14

Good luck with the trousers, bani.

Oversize cardigans are useful, red. If it hangs well that's important. I have a long black (faux) mohair one I wear a lot as an extra layer around the house or under long coats. The others I have are a bit too oversize for under coats but are useful in milder weather.

XingMing · 04/02/2019 17:41

Just love Elle's jumpsuit and adding my admiration for Bo's shopping stamina. Congratulations to you both. I think you should hunt down those Marni trousers too, and if you don't I might (not that I need more black trousers).

No shopping for me; the snow stopped play, and we had friends over for an impromptu birthday lunch. But we did buy a new range for the new kitchen today. Very exciting, and we have yet another kitchen planner coming tomorrow to measure and make suggestions.

XingMing · 04/02/2019 20:35

ANd to agree with an old post, yes, synthetic pillows should be illegal. Like bricks, hot bricks usually.

Redandblue11 · 04/02/2019 20:52

Sorry, what do we mean by synthetic pillows? The pillow stuffing itself or cover or both?
Has anyone tried silk pillowcases? Any difference for hair/skin?

Off to google Tina Casmosa mentioned by Bani and the Swedish currency to have an idea of prices mentioned...

banivani · 04/02/2019 20:57

You’ll find almost nothing on Casmose Red - I googled madly before bidding and her homepage is now dedicated to vegan cooking and all mention of clothes is gone. tinacasmose.com We’ll see! There’s good danish and bad danish, it’s hardly ever parisienne though ;).

You can keep your prickly feather pillows with poky bits, a synthetic pillow does me just fine 😴

quirkychick · 05/02/2019 06:51

I'm with you banivani I can't do feather pillows. They used to trigger my asthma (not sure if they still do, I haven't ventured to try), I'll stick with synthetic and being able to breathe Grin. Though I would agree, that not all synthetic pillows are created equal.

Floisme · 05/02/2019 07:18

I think we probably have synthetic pillows - I've never noticed to be honest Blush Am I in trouble?

Redandblue11 · 05/02/2019 07:46

I am not sure what my pillows are made of but they are not feathers. Cannot stand them near my face I start sneezing.

banivani · 05/02/2019 07:49

Not from me! ;) I'm sure there are quality differences in feather pillows, but I've only ever slept on the ones at my PIL:s place - flat things, prob ancient, with hard bits. The "spare" pillows. Also when I was little I read all the Katy books (What Katy Did and so on) and the scene where Clover is confronted with a feather bed and is horrified made a deep impression on me haha.

banivani · 05/02/2019 07:56

Wasn't Clover, it was Elsie:

"However, she stuck in a couple of pins and fastened the shade out of the way. After that, they looked about the room. It was plainly furnished, but very nice and neat. The bureau was covered with a white towel, on which stood a pincushion, with "Remember Ruth" stuck upon it in pins. John admired this very much, and felt that she could never make up her mind to spoil the pattern by taking out a pin, however great her need of one might be.

"What a high bed!" she exclaimed. "Elsie, you'll have to climb on a chair to get into it; and so shall I."

Elsie felt of it. "Feathers!" she cried a tone of horror. "O John! why did we come? What shall we do?"

"I guess we shan't mind it much," replied John, who was perfectly well, and considered these little variations on home habits rather as fun than otherwise. But Elsie gave a groan. Two nights on a feather-bed! How should she bear it!"

(yes, am pleased with myself for finding this)

Floisme · 05/02/2019 07:58

Oh I loved What Katy Did! Is it still around?

botemp · 05/02/2019 08:11

Trouble? Probably not Flo, just barred from my exclusive princess and the pea society. #DownPillowsAllTheWay #AndDuvetsToo

Without meaning to turn this into a competitive hygiene thread but I'm somewhat shocked by those who don't know what they're sleeping on, you do realise you're supposed to replace pillows every 1-2 yrs and give them a wash every 3-6 months, though you can't wash all synthetic pillows, just some.

Xing had to think of you yesterday with the kitchens as saw some impressive ones in Paris. Crappy pics but the two tone trend only seems to exist with lots of marble there, a bit too much for my taste in some, always think it can go a bit too funeral home. Also passed by the Aga showroom where they had a huge shiny lilac one in the window Envy

It is definitely still around! Loved What Katy Did, What Katy Did at School, and What Katy Did Next. I'm rather fond of Lily and her Paris dresses.

Also you can find the two sequels to the three that were published online these days - Clover and In the High Valleys. Don't think they are as good, though.

CatherineMaitland · 05/02/2019 08:19

I definitely didn't realise you were supposed to replace pillows every two years...

banivani · 05/02/2019 08:31

After X time more than half of your pillow isn't pillow any more, just dead mites, mite droppings and so on. I am plagued by not being able to wash my pillows as often as I like, I'm limited to how often I can book the laundry/laundry times. But I have an Irish disposition to a bit of dirt, which serves me well. ;)

All the Katy books are available on Project Gutenberg :D go for it. Speaking of clothes - I just loved all the descriptions of trimmings and embroidery and ribbons and dress colours ...

CatherineMaitland · 05/02/2019 09:12

I'm definitely not going to admit how old mine actually are! eek

botemp · 05/02/2019 10:30

😷😷😷

They were a wedding present, weren't they?

Catherine, before I forget to mention it again. I saw the IM X L'Oréal makeup collection in the flesh and it's is really very nice. The lipsticks are not flat matte and the colours are really pigmented, the darker colours leave quite a stain actually, which I kind of like in a lipstick as then it wears away quite naturally. The colours also had really good dimension and nuance that's more in line with higher end brands. Can't say how it wears on the lips but I know the L'Oréal formulas are very well liked generally.

I also really liked the smokey eye palette, the black is a really nice smokey black and the sparkly emerald (which initially made me go eh) blends beautifully with it and makes for a very sophisticated look, I imagine.

Didn't buy any of it as it's cheaper online back home but think I will definitely get one or two of the lipsticks. Packaging was also very nice.

Oooh thanks Bo. I'd actually forgotten all about them! Do you think there's any particular colour in the range that would suit someone with pale skin, warm undertones - sort of a very vague autumn-ish colouring?

botemp · 05/02/2019 13:17

Sorry, Catherine, I'm trying to remember shades with their names, I just noted down the ones I liked for me. There was a really nice poppy red with orange undertones, I'm pretty sure it's Pigalle Western but not 100% on that. Most reds would suit most complexions though, they had that necessary nuance. I think the Palais Royal one would be pretty safe as a neutral red where the PW could make your teeth appear more yellow if they're already leaning that way. They're currently on 3 for 2 on feelunique (includes all L'Oréal products).

Red here are the pictures of the trousers. Looking at them I’m thinking maybe I should have kept the larger size, noticing they look tighter on pictures than IRL if that makes sense.

Elle I’m proud owner of the green skirt from Stories too, I dragged my poor toddler to try it on, but he was sweet and patient about it (and I may have bribed him with some rice cakes).

Thanks again, bo, much appreciated - really.

banivani · 05/02/2019 14:11

Jon the trousers do look nice! I esp like the side view :)

quirkychick · 05/02/2019 14:28

Nice trousers, jon.

That's good to know about the IM makeup, bo.

I wore my furry hat today, it goes well with my grey puffa/down coat. I realised it looks smaller than it is on the photo. I think my phone bends the light in portrait.
