What is the secret to looking glam??!

Lighthearted

So, growing up I've always admired glam old ladies. And thought- I want to be a glam old lady. Now I'm middle aged and, without fail, look like a dishevelled wreck at the end of each work day.

So what's the secret? What are the ingredients? I'd have thought:
Nice shoes and handbag... earrings, beads or scarf.... good haircut.... make up. But it's not working! Need hair tips and make up tips. Is it lippy? Is that the key?!

Who's got it sussed and can shed any light?

Tighn totally agree about the dark hair. I am now blond and it throws so much light around my face. With darker hair the shadows on my face look awful

Beige might be too draining for British completions, but for Mediterranean/Latin/Dark eyed people it's one of the most elegant colours you could wear at any age, IMO.

JaneJeffer I laughed aloud at your "I'd get caught in a door" comment. I know exactly what you mean 😂

I'd love to be glamorous, groomed, expensive-looking but am naturally a slob 🙄

I have got caught in a door! My pashmina got caught in the toilet door on the way out on an upper class flight nearly garrotting me!

Ummm....what constitutes an old lady, glam or otherwise? I’m 56 but to be honest, don’t feel any different now as a person than I did at 25-30 😊. What’s “old” for today’s standards?

Happy to be rocking the girl next door look with never been dyed hair, never messed with eye brows, and minimal make up 🤷🏼‍♀️

I get compliments on my skin and hair but do very little with either. I wash it daily and if I have time I blast it with the hairdryer then run a brush through it. I'm usually rosy cheeked from walking everywhere at a decent pace. Sunglasses permanently on.

I like to get dressed up and look like I've made an effort for she I occasions. "Scrubs up well" describes me quite well Grin

I envy those who look polished at 9am at the school gates but I've accepted that in me and I'm not like that and I'm ok with that.

Yes Arken it's to be glamorous when you're a klutz!

I have aboriginal Indian hair (frizzy and thick like a limp arabfro / jewfro) and I still look glam. Your hair needs a good cut, needs to be even, and you need to ensure it’s well taken care of.

The one thing I think lets men and women down are ungroomed eyebrows and facial hair. A clean eyebrow and removing ‘peach fuzz’ can make your entire face look brighter.

Milliy · 21/12/2018 11:04

AuntyJackiesBrothersSistersBoy good question. I'm a similar age and don't feel or look "old" whatever old is.

PerverseConverse · 21/12/2018 12:55

I should add my never been dyed hair is not grey, it's my original colour. There's some white ones in there but I have to search them out as well hidden.

Glam was always a euphemism for tarty in my experience. Animal print, red nail polish, heels, red lipstick, orange face, bleach blonde, lots of hair spray. Lilo Lil kind of style Grin
