Perfumes like Poison. But how it used to be...

I love a strong, heavy, heady perfume.

My all time favourite is poison, the original 1980/1990's version is the holy grail for me, I have half a bottle (25 precious, precious ml) from 1988 on the way to me and I am so hoping it smells like i remember it. It will be a precious treasure only brought out for special occasions if it is.

Other favourites are LouLou, Eden and Freak by illamasqua. I have tried alien by mugler and found it a touch too aniseed-y. Essentially I want to smell like how I imagine a witch would smell, all incense-y and mysterious.

I've recently got back into perfumes and I'm on the look out for new ones to add to my collection so come at me with your recommendations! Thanks in advance.

Opium? Very strong and from the same era.

Fairylea · 07/12/2018 22:31

Clinique aromatics
Estée Lauder youth dew
Those are the top two that spring to my mind!

princesstiasmum · 07/12/2018 22:33

My all time favourite is Ysatis, very rich fruity smell, also like Eternity, very sweet too, but i did like poison, wasnt sure if it was still around as not seen it recntly, Loulou too

AnnieOH1 · 07/12/2018 22:35

Believe it or not Milton Lloyd Poison is closer to the original than the current formulation. Consider Dolce Vita or Feminite du Bois by Sheishedo which is DV's sister despite not being Dior. They're still not quite as heady as they were though. :(

pinkmagic1 · 07/12/2018 22:37

CK obssession is great and normally a fairly good price too.

DeadButDelicious · 07/12/2018 22:39

I had forgotten all about Opium fabulous I shall give it a sniff!

It is princess but it's not the same as it once was. It's still lovely but it's had a lot of its potency took away since it was reformulated. Such a shame.

My mum used to love Chanel no 5 but it's been reformulated too and isn't the same perfume. So many classics lost unless you can find a vintage bottle.

I love Michael Kors Sexy Ruby - it reminds me of my DM getting ready for a night out when I was little and she used to wear Poison.
I also have Deep Red by Hugo Boss which slightly lighter and more berry like scent, but still is that lingering heaviness

Bobbywashere · 07/12/2018 22:41

Ah Deep Red...it is very heavy I think and so lovely.

Gotthetshirt23 · 07/12/2018 22:42

Paris ?
White Musk ?

Chocolatebourbons · 07/12/2018 22:43

Clinique Aromatics - Perfumier's Edition if you can find it.

Most Tom Ford perfumes including Shanghai Lily and the one in the black bottle (can't remember what it's called).

siblingrevelryagain · 07/12/2018 22:46

I loved poison, now wear Lolita Lempicka. In the past loved Amarige & red door too

PaulHollywoodsleftbollockhair · 07/12/2018 22:50

Madonna’s TRuth or dare is a noxious brew you can smell 20 blocks away. Definitely in the Poison arena of more is more.

Sakura7 · 07/12/2018 22:52

Would perfume parlour do a good dupe of the original?

PaulHollywoodsleftbollockhair · 07/12/2018 22:55

www.fragrantica.com/perfume/Madonna/Truth-or-Dare-13756.html this might help...

DeadButDelicious · 07/12/2018 23:08

more is more

That is exactly the sort of perfume I go for Paul Grin

Thank you for all the suggestions! I will definitely be seeking out samples of all of these!

😄 and why not! 👍🏻

LadyOfTheCanyon · 08/12/2018 06:16

Portrait of a lady by Frederic Malle is quite witchy I think, if it's incense notes you're after.

ChardonnaysPrettySister · 08/12/2018 08:05

Feminite du Bois is under the Serge Lutens label now, but is dryer, more streamlined Poison.

Serge Lutens has a lot of big scents, Fleurs d'oranges, lovely as it is needs a very light touch to keep it this side of decency.

ChardonnaysPrettySister · 08/12/2018 08:06

Fleur d'Oranger, you ignorant AC!

MaidenMotherCrone · 08/12/2018 08:11

I’m a witch so therefore smell like a witchGrin. I wear Alien extraordinaire.

QueenOfIce · 08/12/2018 08:35

Diptique 34 black, very heady and intense.

DeadButDelicious · 08/12/2018 09:00

I've been meaning to try that one! I did like alien, despite the aniseedyness which I may have been imagining. My bottle has gone missing sadly.

Samsara by Guerlian

BabyItsAWildWorld · 08/12/2018 09:41

Clinique aromatics elixir is THE witchy perfume!

Chocolatebourbons · 08/12/2018 10:01

The one I couldn't remember in my earlier post is Black Orchid by Tom Ford. Even a small amount can be smelt on the other side of a large office!!
