You’re brave to wear that.

What would you think of someone you didn’t know came up to you and said that?

CarrotTop6 · 06/12/2018 23:48

I’d think they were a rude fucker!!!

Villanellesproudmum · 06/12/2018 23:51

I thought that but was too surprised to say anything.

Work Christmas outing. Never go out due to various circumstances, single parent little opportunity etc I left walked back to my hotel. Feel pants now.

I'd think they were extremely rude.

Hope you're OK.

Villanellesproudmum · 07/12/2018 00:01

I’m slightly baffled. I was wearing black trousers and top with this on www.next.co.uk/g922122s9#309254

Not a normal choice but didn’t want to wear a dress, apparently this was a ‘brave’ choice of jacket and what was I thinking, never met him in my life.

Remembered why I don’t go out anymore and why I’m single. Colleagues will be wondering where I am but he really made me feel ugly and worthless, funny thing is 5 years ago I would have had a great come back. Sad

halfwitpicker · 07/12/2018 00:07

Dunno. It's a great jacket.

joopy79 · 07/12/2018 00:09

They were rude, but did they mean to be rude? I think it says more about them than you. I imagine that they were dressed quite plainly and they wouldn't have liked the attention that they would have got by wearing that jacket. I think actually they meant to pay you a complement but it came out wrong. What was their tone?

123rd · 07/12/2018 00:10

Absolutely nothing wrong with the jacket. He was a twat. But do you think he was being 'funny' maybe trying to say you are brave wearing that in winter ?? ( not defending him. He sounds like a twat)

abbey44 · 07/12/2018 00:13

How rude! For what it's worth, I think that jacket is just fabulous and if it were in my wardrobe I'd be looking for excuses to bring it out. Utterly gorgeous.

Horrible twats like that deserve nothing but contempt.

MrsApplepants · 07/12/2018 00:13

That’s a great jacket, but I wouldn’t consider it ‘out there’ or hugely attention grabbing. Bloke sounds like a dickhead, what does he know about style anyway? I bet you looked fab.

lrh3891 · 07/12/2018 00:17

That jacket is amazing! He was rude. Try not to take it to heart, I bet you look great. Is it too late to rejoin the party?

PenelopeFlintstone · 07/12/2018 00:18

I love that jacket and I'm going to buy one - I'm a size 18, btw. I can't think of any reason why he might have said that; it's not revealing or outrageous. He must be a dick. You should've told your colleagues so they could've told him off!!!
Put up a faceless pic of what you had on?

Casmama · 07/12/2018 00:20

Initial reaction - rude fucker.
Is there any chance it was a cack-handed compliment and he was trying to chat you up?

ShadyLady53 · 07/12/2018 00:23

Could he have been negging?

Nothing wrong or brave about what you wore...it’s perfectly fine!

Such a shame some twat ruined your night ☹️.

PenelopeFlintstone · 07/12/2018 00:27

Is there any chance it was a cack-handed compliment and he was trying to chat you up?

I wondered that too but forgot to type it.

JaneJeffer · 07/12/2018 00:37

He sounds like a weirdo. Can you go back to your party?

Villanelley · 07/12/2018 00:52

What a prick, bet he was wearing novelty socks.

PenelopeFlintstone · 07/12/2018 00:54

I checked the time of your post to see if you could go back but I thought it was too late.

Choccywoccyhooha · 07/12/2018 00:59

My initial thought was "rude!" But I've thought about it and I think he was probably trying to make conversation in an inept way, or even trying to be complimentary. "Brave" might imply the opposite to safe, and no one wants to be told they've chosen a safe outfit for the Christmas do.

Sorry he spoiled your night though, with his social ineptness.

furrysheep · 07/12/2018 01:05

I wonder if he meant because of the weather? As in, you're brave to wear that as a jacket instead of wearing a coat.
But otherwise I can see nothing wrong with what you wore.

penisbeakers · 07/12/2018 01:08

I'd tell them to fuck off.

BettyBooJustDoinTheDoo · 07/12/2018 01:17

Either a clumsy way to chat you up thinking he was being witty and oh so clever, or he was negging.

ErrolTheDragon · 07/12/2018 01:51

I'm so sorry this dickhead ruined your evening out.SadThanks

He's not worth a second thought. The jacket looks absolutely fine for a works Xmas do.

ErrolTheDragon · 07/12/2018 01:53

I had to google 'negging' as I'd never heard the term

'Negging is an act of emotional manipulation whereby a person makes a deliberate backhanded compliment or otherwise flirtatious remark to another person to undermine their confidence and increase their need of the manipulator's approval. '

Ugh.

OHolyNightOwl · 07/12/2018 02:09

I have heard that before, but always related to weather. -You are brave to wear that, it's freezing!

1moreRep · 07/12/2018 03:27

another vote for weather- as in it's freezing
