You’re brave to wear that.

What would you think of someone you didn’t know came up to you and said that?

OP posts:
SilverDoe · 07/12/2018 03:34

Yah I would agree it’s about the weather! It’s hardly risqué or out there, but perhaps because it’s a (very cute) little black jacket he mistook it for your outer wear?

That’s all I would have interpreted it as, hope you feel better Flowers

ShanghaiDiva · 07/12/2018 04:12

I think it was rude.
The jacket is lovely!

Klobuchar · 07/12/2018 04:19

There could be two meanings here -the first that it wasn’t a flattering garment on you and the second that it was maybe a bit cold for such an outfit. Considering what you were wearing, it’s much more likely to be the second one so take it as that and forget him

Sashkin · 07/12/2018 04:55

I was expecting you to link to something really low cut or revealing. But it’s just a (quite nice) jacket, so I have no idea what his problem is. I’d happily wear it, your outfit sounds lovely.

Nitpickpicnic · 07/12/2018 05:14

I’d have responded with ‘and you’re brave to say it, especially after I’ve had a glass of wine.’ (supercilious smile) ‘maybe I’ll play “rate your look” later too, if I get bored.’ Hmm

I’m sure you looked just fine, but maybe you need to add a touch of confidence to your outfit? Don’t let this dick spoil your fun! Grin

cushioncuddle · 07/12/2018 06:24

I bet he thought he was being funny. He probably thought you looked nice and thought that he'd say something. Your top was really sparkly and so in that split second of no thought , thought he'd comment on that.
Unfortunately some people mean well - it's a joke , I was being funny etc but get it so wrong. It was his way of trying to make a connection and failing at it miserably.
I doubt for one minute he intended to insult and is probably oblivious to the effect of his comment. Some people should just stick to chatting about the weather.

Myimaginarycathasfleas · 07/12/2018 06:47

What an absolute knob. It’s a lovely jacket, perfectly suitable and I bet you looked great.

Growingboys · 07/12/2018 06:48

Very rude thing to say.

I would translate their comment as : you look nice and that annoys me.

Chosenbyyou · 07/12/2018 06:48

I have a stock line ready if anyone comments on my clothes...

‘Yeah, thanks for that Gok Wan’ Hmm

Elfinablender · 07/12/2018 06:52

I would have taken it as a weather comment. But usually people do take the time to add, "it's freezing out" to make it clear.

itshappened · 07/12/2018 06:52

I'd say that's perfect for a Christmas do. Please ignore him... he obviously thought he was being funny. He is an idiot. I look forward to wearing sequins at Christmas. It's the only time of year we get to sparkle!

TroysMammy · 07/12/2018 06:55

I'd also say it was said because of the weather as you see people on a night out in the winter wearing party clothes and no coat. I won't go out unless I've got 3 layers on.

HarrySnotter · 07/12/2018 06:58

I love that jacket! He was being a twat.

HisBetterHalf · 07/12/2018 07:00

What was everyone else wearing? I think its a gorgeous jacket

Bluntness100 · 07/12/2018 07:03

I was also surprised when I opened the link. I would have to also assume he meant because it's a light jacket and it's miserable out.

But why did you take it so badly and leave?

Nonomore2 · 07/12/2018 07:05

Great choice of outfit. Saddened to see he ruined your night. I suspect he didn’t mean it in the way you have taken it - he couldn’t have. It’s a very unrevealing jacket..
Was everyone else in short dresses? Could he have meant it like ‘you look different/nice/set apart from the crowd’ and just phrased it very badly? Or was ir reference to being cold?

We’ll never know..

DonkeysDontRideBicycles · 07/12/2018 07:10

Unless he was smirking stupidly I would think he meant it was cold and your jacket was not offering the same level of warmth as a puffa jacket?

HarrySnotter · 07/12/2018 07:24

I actually really want that jacket but it comes either S,M or L and I can never work out what those sizes mean. Grin

MeetOnTheSIedge · 07/12/2018 07:24

Well, I don't know whereabouts you are, but it certainly wasn't freezing here in the SE last night, it was extremely mild, so I'd say he was being an arse. I don't feel the cold much and often go out without a coat in winter, people do comment but its always "you're brave coming out without a coat" or "aren't you cold?". Not "you're brave wearing that". Also its never men who say anything, only other women and its people I know, not total strangers. I'm sorry this has happened to you, its a lovely jacket.

ooglyboo · 07/12/2018 07:28

I think you would have looked amazing. Honestly. That jacket is gorgeous.

Bluntness100 · 07/12/2018 07:31

but it certainly wasn't freezing here in the SE last night

I'm not sure where you are in the south east but I'm also there and it although it wasn't freezing, it was sodden miserable last night, blowing a gale, pissing down, cold, and certainly not going out without a coat weather. 🤣

MeetOnTheSIedge · 07/12/2018 07:33

Oh, it was mild and dry here, the wind didn't get up until the small hours. I went out without a coat and was fine, my car said 15C on the way out at 7.

ScreamingValenta · 07/12/2018 07:35

My first thought was negging.

llangennith · 07/12/2018 07:35

If it happens again ask, "What do you mean?"

Agree with others that he was probably surprised you didn't have a coat on.

ZenNudist · 07/12/2018 07:43

I like that jacket. Considering buying it!

I bet he fancied you I think he was negging you.
