What do we think about fur gilets?

Are they still in? Or are they a bit naff and middle aged?
For context I am middle aged (47)

They aren't for me, because they bulk up. But they look fabulous on some people.
I don't really stick to fashion though, I wear what I think looks good.

SuperPug · 01/12/2018 19:04

Mint velvet ones always look nice but I'm aware they get mixed reviews. I don't like the huge bulky ones.

cheshireagain · 01/12/2018 19:06

Love them, but you need good quality.
A black one looks great over a black leather jacket.

KarenWhite29 · 01/12/2018 19:09

I think anything fur or faux fur looks awful

Jasperoonicle · 01/12/2018 19:14

They really suited prostitutes on tv in the 80's!

That is actually the only positive thing I can say about them.

Avegemitesandwich · 01/12/2018 19:16

They are totally 2007 but I don't care and really like mine!

TheMarbleFaun · 01/12/2018 19:41

Very mixed!
Had my hand on a few today (New Look and H&M) but both were being eyed up by some pensioners so thought better of it...
Nice burgundy one in Mint Velvet though

I'm not normally a fan, but I was looking at a lovely one in Mint Velvet the other day.

TheMarbleFaun · 01/12/2018 23:03

I promise not to wear it with white jeans TroyKing

Very very naff. Some people can pull off naff in an ironic kind of way though.

Bluesheep8 · 02/12/2018 09:05

I love them and have got 5 I think. Blush I wear them all regularly in winter. I'm 45.

Bluesheep8 · 02/12/2018 09:06

And I don't care if some consider them naff. I like them and they suit me.

santababyconvertible · 02/12/2018 09:06

Sorry to jump on but can anyone recommend a fur coat/jacket in black or brown which isn't naff?!

Kristingle · 02/12/2018 09:07

Like most things, it depends how you wear them.

Rockbird · 02/12/2018 09:07

I like them but I'd look like Cheebacca

evilharpy · 02/12/2018 12:41

I have a lovely ivory, slightly longer length one from Topshop that isn’t bulky at all.

Idontbelieveinthemoon · 02/12/2018 12:49

For me it's about what suits my shape - I have broad shoulders so despite being slim and tall they just bulk me up. On narrower shoulders they can look lovely, but nope they're not for me.

Grace789 · 02/12/2018 12:58

Absolutely love a fur gilet op! They can be bulking for big bewbs though, I like to wear them with a roll neck jumper, slim jeans and boots x

evilharpy · 02/12/2018 14:00

I’m pear shaped and not that large of nork so they look ok on me (I hope).

Bluesheep8 · 02/12/2018 16:38

Like I said, I love them. DP is not keen on the sheer number I have and calls them roadkill ! I've got one mottled cream and taupe one with a few faceted sequin type things sewn on and he said 'That roadkill's so fresh it's got cats eyes stuck in it' !! Not the reaction I was aiming for but had to laugh Grin

Bluesheep8 · 02/12/2018 16:41

And he also jokes that they must be breeding as I have so many

MrsCar · 02/12/2018 16:43

I LOVE them Grin

Roobub · 02/12/2018 18:10

I really like them (I'm 34 and muhc more of a wear what I like than a wear what's fashionable type of person). However, I'm short of neck so don't think I can wear them Sad

dudsville · 02/12/2018 18:14

I've never understood them. Are you cold or aren't you? How do your arms (extremeties) maintain a superior level of heat while your core body requires this extra thick added layer?????
