Dating again after divorce - is this dress suitable?

It's been a year since seperating from my husband and forever since I last went on a date!! The stress has caused me to shed a stone and I am reluctantly back on the dating scene. I love this dress, but I am not sure if it might be too much in the red. I love it in black also, maybe that would be better. Opinions please ladies...

It’s a lovely dress. But depends where you are going for a date, it might look like you’re trying a bit too hard if you’re in an informal location surrounded by women in jeans and trainers. However, would be great in a nice bar/upmarket restaurant.

Buy both and then insist you go somewhere that can live up to your dress.

TeeBee - I like that idea! Last year they did a really good Black Friday sale, so I may get both. I don't usually buy a piece of clothing in more than one colour, but I might make an exception. Hope he's worth it!

Sod him! The dress in itself is worth it. It's lush! Might buy some myself.

I would play it safe and go for the black TBH.

Some (very decent, not knobby) men would prefer something sexy but subtle. Red, combined with such a plunging neckline could look a bit OTT for a first date. Black, with red accessories if you like red (or leopard print) shoes, bag etc.

I think either black with plunging neckline or a red dress with more subtle neckline. One or the other!

I love that dress. Another vote for black here definitely. I started looking at all the lovely dresses on that site and thinking ooh that one is nice etc. Then I started thinking that all the fashion now is really baggy flowey stuff and how much I've missed a good fitted dress. I just need to lose a stone like OP and would definitely buy one! Good luck on the date - do up date!

Wow - Sketch on a first date! Hope he lives up to the surrroundings!!! Personally I would wear whatever makes you feel best and if he is the type of man who thinks red is ott - he is clearly not the man for you!

Having said that - I think I marginally prefer the black.

Ooh, looks good. I'd go for the black to be honest, it's a bit more understated and less in your face/try hard for a first date, and you'd probably get more wear from it.
