Is this the fashion? Jigsaw

Help me out please. Are these clothes that people are wearing? Or is this just 'model styling'?

I accidentally clicked an ad on mumsnet for Jigsaw. I wouldn't normally look on here - it's out of my price range, although once upon a time did shop there for work clothes.

I'm naturally not stylish, and don't follow fashion trends. So this isn't criticism, but to me it looks like everything's the wrong size/length and separates that don't belong together. The only thing I like from glancing is the coat, but that's £750!!

Maybe it's just all the half tucked in jumpers that make it look so odd to me?!

The half tucked in top is a thing at the mo, agree it doesn't look very well done on the website. Easily remedied though!

ToeCleavage · 20/11/2018 04:48

They all look terrible. Not one piece from that adverorial would make me want to buy it.

Awful styling.

ToeCleavage · 20/11/2018 04:48

‘Advertorial’

constantnamefails · 20/11/2018 04:52

It all looks shit except for the pink mac.

PersonaNonGarter · 20/11/2018 04:56

The styling is terrible. Such a shame as the clothes are good.

That whole page looks like Jaeger just before collapse. I hope Jigsaw gets its mojo back.

FlorenceLyons · 20/11/2018 08:21

I still really like Jigsaw. Some things are stupidly over-priced, but the quality is generally good and the style suits me.

elQuintoConyo · 20/11/2018 08:23

I quite like the white boots Grin

Floisme · 20/11/2018 08:30

I can’t see the advertorial but there are quite a few things on the link that I’d wear, the main exception being the cropped wide legs with boots. (I love cropped wide legs but only with bare ankles.)

My biggest beef with Jigsaw is that the prices have rocketed but the quality, if anything, has gone down.

The half tuck is perfect for me as I’ve never in my life managed to keep anything fully tucked in. I’ll be sad when the trend moves on and I’m left still doing it.

MrsMariaPolouvicka · 20/11/2018 08:39

It's a mix of terrible styling and Jigsaw designers not interpreting the current trends quite right. Essentially all those clothes reflect the current shapes but as always there's something a little bit off about Jigsaws take. A bit safe. They have a heritage of being a classic quality brand, but have had to adapt in recent years by switching to cheaper synthetics to keep costs down, and to try and become more current to attract a younger demographic they didn't used to target. They're trying to compete and attract the Whistles customer, when they used to sit alongside Hobbs, LK Bennet, Jaeger, all of whom are struggling.

But jeez, the styling. M&S called, they want their stylists back.

Floisme · 20/11/2018 08:41

Am I seeing what you’re all seeing? Where’s the advertorial?

Ohyesiam · 20/11/2018 08:45

I think those clothes are new, and belong to the emperor.

MrsMariaPolouvicka · 20/11/2018 08:46

It's not an advertorial Floisme just the "new in" page of the website.

Floisme · 20/11/2018 08:49

Thanks. I don’t get it then. I can’t see anything outrageous - just fairly typical Jigsaw stuff at the usual Jigsaw prices.

Sitranced · 20/11/2018 09:19

Its looks fairly normal and no different from most other online clothing shops of that ilk.

Bloomcounty · 20/11/2018 10:01

I see winter weight wide legged trousers that are too short, and I immediately think "they just ran out of fabric". They don't appeal to me, not one bit. I like crops in summer, when it looks right to wear them. But winter, when there's six inches of snow, the wind's howling a gale and you've got ankles exposed to the elements and you can't even wear proper socks with them.... One word springs to mind. Rainman.

There's something terribly awkward about the length - if they were a few inches shorter, it would look deliberate, but that just above the ankle bone length really does look like the damn things have shrunk in the wash.

MawkishTwaddle · 20/11/2018 10:15

Why are the models standing with their pelvises thrust forward?

Reminds me of that scene in Blackadder

Pinkywoo · 20/11/2018 10:33

I'm quite enjoying this half mast trouser thing as I'm 5'2 and don't have to take them up. I've got that lovely dark green leopard print jumpsuit from new look (the mum's wearing it on one of the supermarket Christmas ads, Lidl?) and it looks awful on the website, like my leggy sisters school trousers after a growth spurt, but on me it's just right!

FlorenceLyons · 20/11/2018 10:43

I agree on the half tuck, Flo. I fear I'm still going to be doing it long after it's fashionable!

As I say, I like most of the clothes on this page, but I can't unsee the Blackadder / Tory politician power stance now Grin

MessyMoo · 20/11/2018 16:26

Bloomcountry that's what I think about the trouser length too. And then on the same page they have trousers so long they are dragging behind the heels.

Glad it's not just me that thinks the styling is odd. I was seriously worried that my 'quick postmans arrived and I need the first two things out of the charity bag to cover my body' look was actually a 'thing'. Unfortunately I am accidentally quite adept at that look.

Anyone know any websites which show the fashions but in a wearable manner, in case I get the urge to update my wardrobe?

PouchofDouglas · 20/11/2018 16:28

OP
You say you aren't into fashion. And you sound a bit old fashioned

RickOShay · 20/11/2018 16:33

Same ConyoGrin

Bloomcounty · 20/11/2018 16:33

Pinkywoo You made me smile with that! You have an excellent point - I'm 5'7 so it's different for me. I shorten many a pair of "petite" length trousers for some of my clients, so to have a pair the exact right length must be liberating.

MessyMoo · 20/11/2018 16:51

You're right PouchofDouglas I probably am old fashioned. I was brought up with fashion rules and they are tough to budge from my mind. I've got past the colour co-ordinated bag and shoes, and the no navy/black or brown/black combos, but things move fast in the fashion rules world and while I'd like to think there are now no rules, I guess I know I'd look a real mess if I didn't have some mental guidance when picking out clothes.

I'm also a size 18, so have to factor that in when looking at clothes.

OP posts:
HildaZelda · 20/11/2018 16:52

They look modelled on Trinny Woodall. She does that half tuck thing and ALWAYS wears her trousers too short. I think it looks really stupid to be honest. "I CAN do a crop trouser". No, you really can't Trinny. You look like you've borrowed them from your daughter.

CountFosco · 20/11/2018 17:18

I like the clothes Blush, clearly I'm reading too many fashion blogs! But I'm wearing knee high socks with the wide legged crops, I'm embracing the clown look Grin because I refuse to be uncomfortable for fashion.

But OP, if you're not interested in fashion why do you care?
